Beauty Insider Love #3

/

My second Sephora order arrived yesterday, part of a huge pile of boxes – 2 Amazon, a Victoria’s Secret and my husband’s Loot Crate.

I could resist no longer…I finally broke down and ordered the Kat Von D Monarch Palette. I’ve been coveting my BFF’s Monarch and now I have one of my own…tomorrow morning I will emerge from my cocoon…

Not pictured is the Kat Von D Studded Kiss “Bauhaus” lipstick that I ordered for Loo. She was so helpful in taking the kids to school and starting dinner when I was out of town, that she deserved a little treat.

For samples, I picked out all fragrances. For my husband, I picked Dolce & Gabbana “the one” – it’s a horrible, wretched fragrance. He wrinkled his nose and his eyes started watering, so I guess he’s not going to be wearing it. He described it as “nasty.” The other two were for me – Elizabeth and James “Nirvana Black” and Tory Burch. “Nirvana Black” is also wretched. I don’t care if the Olsen Twins designed it, it’s fucking foul. Tory Burch, on the other hand, is absolutely lovely. It has notes of grapefruit and peony and I can totally see myself buying it in the near future.

Beauty Insider Love #1

/

I got my first BILOVE 10% off order yesterday – I was so happy to get the Too Faced “Natural Matte” Palette in my hot little hands. I tried to get it at Ulta a few weeks ago, with my 20% off coupon, but the store had just done a rest and only had it online. I looked it up online and it was excluded from the coupon. DISAPPOINTMENT. At least I got it for 10% off…

I used it this morning and it was absolutely beautiful. I think “Sexpresso” is my second favorite eye shadow name ever. (“Sugar Walls” from Too Faced’s “Boudoir” Palette is #1.)

For samples, I picked Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder DuoGuerlain Abeille Royale Face Treatment Oil and belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb (I have no idea what an aqua bomb is). I also got an envelope full of postcard scent samples.

Sephora Flash is gonna be expensive…

Just in time for Coachella, Ipsy sent out April’s “Beautifully Bohemian” bag.

Beauty Insider Love #2

/

Technically, this is my 2nd purchase using my 10% off Beauty Insider code, since I placed an online order yesterday.

I am usually annoyed by the lack of selection at the JC Penney’s Sephora, but I had to go to get their exclusive Summer Obsessions set. The main reason I wanted the set was the beautyblender. (Now I just need Loo to show me how to use it.) Also inside the coral makeup bag: Benefit “Watt’s Up”; NARS Lip Gloss in “Turkish Delight”; Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in “fearless”; Tarte lights, camera, splashes 4-in-1 waterproof mascara (the one product I’m unlikely to use); Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer; and Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (wish I would have had this when I was in New Orleans).

I also snagged a clearance bottle of Formula X Nail Polish in “Law of Attraction” for $2.99. I also got a free sample of Pink Sugar eau de toillette. It kinda smells like cotton candy.

My code is good until Monday – I’m trying to resist buying the Kat Von D Monarch palette…but I just might have to pull the trigger.

April Birchbox – Mad Men California

/

My Birchbox has been sitting here at least a week, calling to me…

I admit it, I’ve only seen a few episodes of Mad Men, so I’m not all heartbroken about the final episodes. But the products in the California box were compelling. Inside my box: 12 Benefits Instant Healthy Hair Treatment; CLEAN Original Eau de Parfum (the card says it was inspired by soapy – it’s way TOO soapy smelling, but my husband liked it and actually put it on); Cynthia Rowley Beauty Brightening Illuminator (yup, another one); LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in “Honeypot” (Honeypot!); and Not Soap, Radio Body Wash in “Bathing with sharks” (a fresh clean smell – my husband said it smells “yummy”.)

There was also a New York box – it was so hard to choose!

April Julep Maven Box – The Paradise Collection

I got my Julep Maven Box on Friday (Yay for quick shipping!), but I have been so busy with Easter festivities that I hadn’t had time to post it.

April is “The Paradise Collection” – colors like a bright tropical bouquet. This month’s beauty product is “Don’t Leave Your Brows at Home” – a two-in-one tool includes brow powder and an angled brush. Even though I love my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, I’m excited to try it. I got “Cool Brown”. For polishes, I picked It Girl “Danielle” and Bombshell “Cassidy”. I normally wouldn’t have picked 2 blues, but I kept thinking about my Cuz’s little girl Cassidy – so I had to have it! For an Easter treat, my box had a little bag of Everlasting Gobstoppers – one of my favorites!

I just did my toes and nails in “Danielle” – pics tomorrow!

Review – Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation

/

If you need a foundation that will cover face tattoos, then you might want to try Kat Von D’s Lock-It Tattoo Foundation…because who else could sell this foundation but a woman with face tattoos? Seriously, Mike Tyson could cover his ginourmous face tattoo with this shit.

Lock-It is a bit too much for me. My skin is very uneven right now, but I don’t need quite this much coverage. I felt like I was wearing a kabuki mask. Plus, I don’t think the sample I got (Light 48) was exactly the right color for me – it was a bit too yellow. Again, I was left feeling like Data from ST:TNG – I get that feeling a lot. I tested it out with Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer Potion, which was just a so-so combination.

Lock-It retails for $34, only available at Sephora – about in line with other prestige foundations.

March Beauty Box 5 – Hustle

/

Finally! My box was shipped on the 10th, but I didn’t receive it until the 27th. Really, USPS? It took 17 days to get my box from Austin to Houston?

Kind of ironic that March’s theme is “Hustle”, isn’t it? Inside my box: Eslor Introductory Collection – Second Edition with Soothing Refiner and Cleanser, Botanical Peeling Gel, Chlorophyll Lifting Mask & Firming Collagen Day Cream; Elite Therapeutics Rosemary Eucalyptus Body Cream, Scandalous by Nanacoco Thickening Mascara (the flexible silicon ball brush scares me – I’ll probably stab myself in the eye); Styli-Style Line & Seal Twist Mechanical Eye Liner in “Brown Glitter” and Laugh Out Loud by Nancoco Lip Gloss in “The Lift”. The box also came with a $5 off $10 code for Beauty Box 5’s website.

BB5 sure loves Nanacoco, don’t they? I’ve never seen that brand anywhere else…

Just the Samples, Ma’am

/

Last week, Sephora was offering 5 face samples with every order, so I went ahead and ordered a gift I had been planning anyway. The 5 samples I picked were : tarte  Maracuja Oil (is Maracuja the next Argan?), Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer in “9 neutral”, philosophy purity made simple 3-in-1 cleanser for face and eyes, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector  in “OPAL” and Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation in “Light 48” (I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while). I also got a free mini Make Up For Ever Lipstick in “Rouge Artist Natural” – it’s so tiny and cute!

Oh, and I signed up for Sephora Flash, too! For $10, I’ll get free 2 day shipping from Sephora for a year…this is very, very dangerous, I can already tell.

March Ipsy Bag – Floral Fantasy

/

I love coming back from being out of town and finding a big stack of packages – I got a Victoria’s Secret order and my ipsy bag!

March’s bag is “Floral Fantasy”. The bag is a bright Hawaiian-like floral print, full of fun stuff like NYX Butter Lipstick in “Hunk”pūr~lisse beauty pūr~delicate gentle soymilk cleanser & makeup remover (I’m just glad it’s not another moisturizer); Boo-Boo Cover-Up in “Medium”; Dr. Brandt Skincare pores no more anti-aging mattifying lotion (I have high hopes for this one!); and VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind Illuminating Face Highlighter in “Crystal Pink” (is “illuminating highlighter” the new “primer”?)

I usually don’t like skin heavy bags, but I am getting to like them more and more.
