Starlet Fever

/

I got Starlet Fever – Sinful Colors “Starlet Fever”.

I wanted to transition from Green Week to Easter Week with a sheer Spring pastel, but all that green left my nails with a yellow tint. Instead of just sheer, I chose a sheer glitter. “Starlet Fever” is cotton candy pink with fuchsia and iridescent glitter. This is two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under “HK Girl”.

I feel like I’ve got a kind of Glinda vibe going on…but I asked Lily if I looked like a good witch or a bad witch – that was a mistake. She didn’t hesitate to say “bad witch”. I guess I should have asked her before washing my makeup for the night…

I Declare Shenanigans!

/

I declare shenanigans!

My nails didn’t turn out the way I expected AT ALL.

My final nails of Green Week were full of surprises.

The first surprise was Sinful Colors “San Francisco” – I thought it would be a creamy emerald green from the bottle, but it turned out to be a kelly green shimmery jelly.

It’s very sheer after one coat and still a bit sheer after two coats.

This is two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat. I decided to leave it at two coats – even after with the visible nail line.

/

The second surprise was what essie luxeffects “Set in Stones” did over “San Francisco” – it turned gold! Maybe the yellow pigment in the green polish leached into the silver glitter? Or more likely, it’s just the reflection coming off the green. Either way – I wanted SILVER glitter to match my shirt! Shenanigans! (Top Coat is “HK Girl”, of course.)

My shenanigans are in silver sequins, not gold…argh…

Oh well, maybe I’ll get it right next year.

Feeling Unlucky?

/

Why do I keep fucking with these Sinful Colors glitters? WHY? I don’t have all night to painstakingly fish these glitter pieces out of the motherdicking bottles!

I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and two coats of Sinful Colors “Gold Medal”. I envisioned topping them with the green glitter and gold shamrocks of Sinful Colors “Feeling Lucky?”. Yeah…not exactly. It was nearly impossible to get the fucking shamrocks out of the bottle. I had shook the fuck out of it and held it upside down for about 10 minutes before I started and it still took 5-10 minutes of fishing and swirling to get one out. Fuuuuuuck. I managed to get a single one out for each nail on my left hand and gave up. The shamrocks are gorgeous and even though the edges stick up a bit, with “HK Girl”, I don’t feel like they will be peeling up.

I just totally gave up on my right hand – I’m not going to take a picture, so I’m not spending 10 minutes per nail playing Go Fish. Other than the time lost fishing individual shamrock clovers out of the bottle, they turned out really good though. Green week continues…

Green Week!

/

It’s green week! Not like saving the earth or hugging trees…St. Patrick’s Day!

I started with Julep “Cecile”Caribbean breeze holographic jelly. It’s more of a teal than green, but whatever. It went on like a dream over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat. This is two thin coats with “HK Girl”.

Now, it did wear around the edges – like immediately. Actually, I think it was shrinkage first – it pulled away from the sides of my nails, too. And it didn’t drag or dent…but I managed to gouge it pretty seriously within 24 hours – switching around ethernet cables to fix my TV stuff after a lightning strike. Yeah, l like to walk on the wild side…

Tang Mimosa

/

Oh it looks like a Mimosa alright…a Mimosa made with Tang…thin and watery – a supernatural kind of orange not seen in nature. The cocktail of astronauts.

I’m referring to Sinful Colors “Mimosa”, an orange jelly with gold glitter dots and bars. This is three thick coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat. It’s a thin jelly, but easy to work with. I’m guessing I could just keep layering it on until it’s opaque…but why? I topped with “HK Girl” for super shine.

Take to the Sky

/

I’ve done pink and green within the last week, so I decided to try my new blue – Julep “Skylar” – first.

My husband says it’s silver, but it’s clearly blue, right? RIGHT?

“Skylar”, harbor blue chrome, is one of the smoothest chromes I’ve ever applied. Of course, there were streaks and lines in the polish, but not nearly as bad as the others I’ve used. Even though I started with Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat, there were a few pinprick bubbles – I don’t think there’s any way to avoid those bubbles in a chrome. I finished with “HK Girl” for extra shine and protection.

The New Normal?

So is this the new normal at Walgreens?

The Sinful Colors sale is 2/$3 now? Pfffpht.

Even so, I went ahead and picked up a few – it feels like it’s been forever since Walgreen’s has had a Sinful Colors sale – this is the first one of the year!

I picked “Gold N’ Roses”, “I’m All In”, “Feeling Lucky?” and “San Francisco”.

I also grabbed another Sinful Colors Base Coat – can’t risk running out.

Just a warning…this Walgreen’s deal ended yesterday…you’ll have to wait for the next one.

Of course, the first one I grabbed was the rose gold – “Gold N’ Roses”. Plus…the name!!! Guns N’ Roses was my very first concert – a gift for my 16th birthday.

First – Sinful Colors Base Coat. “Gold N’ Roses” went on like a dream – it was smooth as buttah. This is a super high quality polish – comparable to the Zoya shimmers. There is a bit of glitter in the polish, not too much. I finished with “HK Girl”.

“Gold N’ Roses” would look really fantastic matte – I’m going to try it soon.

Daddy’s Soul Donut

/

…and this is the only reason I bought Funky Fingers “Cupcake Sprinkles”: to make ‘Daddy’s Soul Donut’ from The Simpsons. D’oh!

I switched it up and started with Orly Bonder. I then painted two very careful coats of Trust Fund Beauty “I’m Kind of a Big Deal” from this month’s ipsy bag. It is the perfect Pepto Bismal pink. It’s thick, but if you’re very, very careful – you can avoid getting it in the cracks at the edge of your nails and making a mess. It only took one coat of “Cupcake Sprinkles” to get all those sprinkles on my nails. Of course, I finished up with “HK Girl”.

What other kind of desserts can I make with “Cupcake Sprinkles”?

She’s Gonna Kill Me, Oh Celeste

/

Julep “Celeste” lives up to it’s name – it’s a real Timebomb. She’s gonna kill me and I don’t mean softly.

Julep describes “Celeste” as cosmic gray iridescent glitter, but it comes across as really dense purple/green flakies. It’s absolutely celestial., like looking into a faraway galaxy.

After starting with Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat, I did two coats of “Celeste”, which was tricky – it’s super goopy. As long as you keep the brush from getting gooped up, it applies smoothly. “HK Girl” finished the job.

Queen of Hearts

/

FINALLY! I can get the fucking glitter out of the bottle! Thank you, Funky Fingers “Queen of Hearts”.

Seriously, it only took a bit of brush swirling to fill the brush with hearts. I had to do a fair bit of dabbing and dragging to get them flat on my nail, but at least I could get them out of the bottle. Funky Fingers does NOT skimp on the glitter. “Queen of Hearts” is a clear base with black, white and red (several different shades of red – so one of them is sure to match whatever you’ve got) hearts. SO many hearts.

Starting with Sinful Colors Base Coat, I used Sinful Colors “Black on Black” and “Under 18” – two coats each. After two coats, the hearts seemed to “sink in” and are not totally flat, but I think it looks kind of cool. A coat of “HK Girl” smoothed it a bit, but I can still feel the edges of the hearts.

So…Valentine’s Day s tomorrow…2 more days until 50% off candy!
