Winter Dragon

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

I couldn’t hold myself back – I had to jump right into these Game of Thrones polishes.

After Sinful Colors Base Coat, I painted two coats of Funky Fingers “Mother of Dragons” on all my nails. It looked redder in the bottle, but it turned more pink on my nails – think knockout rose pink, like a darker version of “Rose Tart”. The dark purple undercurrent is there – almost like electricity. I topped several of my nails with a single coat of Funky Fingers “Winter is Coming”, which is large and small white glitter, interspersed with iridescent flakie shards. The shards go from clear to blue/green in sunlight. My first impulse is to put “Winter is Coming” over every polish I wear for a month, but it is a SUPREME pain in the ass to get off your nails. This shit sticks like GLUE.

I topped with “HK Girl” and the polish lasted for a full seven days with no chips and only minor edge wear.

Throne Games

So…I had half a day off last Friday and I was “supposed” to be looking for stocking stuffers for my kids… but then I noticed that Five Below has a new Game of Thrones  polish collection from Funky Fingers! Add to Cart!

I don’t actually watch Game of Thrones, but I’ve heard about it from friends and the internet to appreciate the references. I picked just three: Funky Fingers “Mother of Dragons”, “Winter is Coming” and “Red Wedding”. These just scream HOLIDAY MASSACRE to me.

In case you’re wondering, my son said he NEVER looks at this website – only my other one. I can post on here that I found him a huge variety of poo emoji products – including post-it notes and a tiny stuffed poo. His stocking will literally be full of shit.

Nutcrackin’ Beaches

I just couldn’t stay away from Funky Fingers “Aloha Beaches” – I had to have more.

Actually, I wanted “Aloha Beaches” on my toes – to match my new Flamingo swimsuit. So after doing my toes, I decided to use it on my fingers. After Sinful Colors Base Coat and two coats of “Aloha Beaches”, I decided to get all fancy with a coat of Funky Fingers “Son of a Nutcracker”. Yes, I know it is a Xmas polish…but it’s green and pink and white and silver glitter – I had to do it. I finished with “HK Girl”. All the top coats changed the demi-matte finish of “Aloha Beaches”, but it’s still pretty, pretty.

This combination has lasted like a champ. I did it last Sunday night and I’ve been too busy to change it…I’ve got some edge wear, but that’s it. YASSSSS!

Aloha Beaches

Finally!

A new collection of summer polishes from Funky Fingers at Five Below! Grammy was taking this kids to go birthday shopping, but I ended up doing more shopping for me…

I found these three polishes and I couldn’t stop giggling at their naughty names. The peachy pink is “Beach Please”. The chrome-y blue is “Salty Kisses” – Grammy and I couldn’t stop laughing at that one. (No one wants salty kisses…no one.) The shocking pink one is “Aloha Beaches”. These were well worth 3/$5.

I found a big floppy hat ($5) to wear at the beach and the pool…yup, I am officially one of those old ladies. I always manage to get a sunburn on the part on the top of my head. It only took my 40 years to do something about it.

I also found a huge inflatable flamingo for $5…huge might be an overstatement. The jury is still out as to whether I’ll be able to wedge my fat ass into it…at the very least, I *should* be able to get it around my waist…if not, I guess Lily will get a new pool toy.

I let me husband pick which one I would try first…

…and he chose “Aloha Beaches”. Good choice, honey.

I didn’t realize that these polishes are demi-matte. This is two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat. The formula is nice and smooth –

I decided to forego a top coat, so I could enjoy the matte finish. Ugh, I’m too rough on my nails to go without a top coat. Even though my nails were dry a full two hours before bedtime, I still woke up with sheet marks in my nails. Even worse, I had to get my car towed to the dealership today and taking my keys off the keyring mangled a few of my nails. Bah, humbug.

Graffiti Bridge

/

Now THIS one turned out sooooo much better.

I killed two birds with one stone – Prince + using a new polish. I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and then two coats of Sinful Colors “Stone Cold” for the bridge. For the graffiti, I used Funky Fingers “As If”. Once again, I had no problem getting stars out of the bottle. I got a few for each nail without even trying. Finished with “HK Girl”.

Shhh…don’t tell anyone, but I’ve never seen Graffiti Bridge. Surely, I’m not the only one…

Getting Funky

/

I absolutely cannot walk into Five Below without walking out with at least 3 fingernail polishes – it just does not happen. All I was looking for was a bag of poop…

I brought home Funky Fingers “Son of a Nutcracker” – white, pink and green glitter from last year’s Elf Collection (I love pink and green together, Xmas or not); “As If” – black, pink and purple glitter with stars; and “Bottle Rockets” – red, white and blue glitter, perfect for the 4th of July.

They didn’t seem to have any new collections since the last time I was there a few months ago. They better get on the ball or I won’t have anything to buy!

Use the Force

So…”the force” is black, white, gold and pink? I never knew…

Funky Fingers “Use the Force” is anyway – black, white, gold and light pink bar glitter. I decided to use it over Nails Inc. “Bruton Street” (Bruton Street is the birthplace of Queen Elizabeth – yup, I googled it). “Bruton Street” is a dusty rose similar to “Lovecraft”, but leaning more mauve than pink.

“Bruton Street” went on like a dream over Sinful Colors Base Coat. It was nearly full coverage in one coat – no streaks. I did two coats just to be sure. Then – of course – “HK Girl”.

My husband said my nails look weird – like plastic. Now THAT’s the sign of a good manicure – so perfect they look fake!

Daddy’s Soul Donut

/

…and this is the only reason I bought Funky Fingers “Cupcake Sprinkles”: to make ‘Daddy’s Soul Donut’ from The Simpsons. D’oh!

I switched it up and started with Orly Bonder. I then painted two very careful coats of Trust Fund Beauty “I’m Kind of a Big Deal” from this month’s ipsy bag. It is the perfect Pepto Bismal pink. It’s thick, but if you’re very, very careful – you can avoid getting it in the cracks at the edge of your nails and making a mess. It only took one coat of “Cupcake Sprinkles” to get all those sprinkles on my nails. Of course, I finished up with “HK Girl”.

What other kind of desserts can I make with “Cupcake Sprinkles”?

Queen of Hearts

/

FINALLY! I can get the fucking glitter out of the bottle! Thank you, Funky Fingers “Queen of Hearts”.

Seriously, it only took a bit of brush swirling to fill the brush with hearts. I had to do a fair bit of dabbing and dragging to get them flat on my nail, but at least I could get them out of the bottle. Funky Fingers does NOT skimp on the glitter. “Queen of Hearts” is a clear base with black, white and red (several different shades of red – so one of them is sure to match whatever you’ve got) hearts. SO many hearts.

Starting with Sinful Colors Base Coat, I used Sinful Colors “Black on Black” and “Under 18” – two coats each. After two coats, the hearts seemed to “sink in” and are not totally flat, but I think it looks kind of cool. A coat of “HK Girl” smoothed it a bit, but I can still feel the edges of the hearts.

So…Valentine’s Day s tomorrow…2 more days until 50% off candy!

The Fingers are Weak

/

…if you offer me free stuff for my birthday, I’m gonna go get it…

I talked my husband into dropping me off at Ulta on Saturday to get my deluxe sample of Benefit Roller Lash (I tried it and I must admit, it’s pretty nice.)

I also used my $10 off coupon to try some NYX stuff. I heard that NYX Micro Brow Pencil is a dupe of Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz…and it IS. Only $9.99 instead of $21.

I also got NYX BB Cream in “Natural” ($12.99) – another win – it’s great on my skin. I was looking for NYX Lip Lingerie – the display was there, but it wasn’t in stock…so I got the NYX Lip Ombre Duo in “Ginger & Nutmeg” ($11.99) instead. I also grabbed a clearance NYX Mosaic Powder Blush in “Spice”. I am getting addicted to NYX!

After I checked out, I went to track my son and sister-in-law down at Five Below. I found them in the checkout line wearing hats and taking pictures…but I felt something pulling me.

It was the nail polish. I can’t leave Five Below empty handed. I grabbed Funky Fingers “Queen of Hearts”, “Use the Force” and “Cupcake Sprinkles” – they have the bestest top coats!

The heart is strong, but the fingers are weak.
