Redrum

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Redrum…REDRUM…

Sinful Colors “Redrum” is aptly named – it looks like blood, bubbling up from…the abyss? Wherever blood bubbles from…I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and then used several different colors to contrast: Sinful Colors “Snow Me White”, “Black on Black” and “GoGo Boy”. “GoGo Boy” was a last minute addition to my plan, since Lily had just used it to paint her nails and it was sitting there on the coffee table. “HK Girl” made it super shiny.

I’ll be honest, this was my second try with “Redrum”. On my first try, I made the mistake of painting each nail and letting them dry a few minutes. I added “Redrum” and then my nails were just red. Huh? I googled to see where I went wrong and found that I needed to add “Redrum” while the first polish was still wet. I removed all my polish and started over, this time, painting each nail individually and then immediately adding “Redrum” – BINGO!

This time, I was very pleased with the result – it’s like the next level of crackle polish. I’m looking forward to trying the other four.

Buckshot

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Doesn’t this look like my hand just got hit with a load of buckshot?

Sinful Colors “Cherish Me” is from the new “Moon Metals” Collection and it is just flat out weird. It’s super sheer, which is disappointing, but I guess necessary with this tiny, tiny glitter. This is two coats (over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under “HK Girl”) and you can barely see it. And the glitter…there isn’t much of it!

I’ll be honest, I am not in love with this polish.

Jonna Iguana

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

This is it – I’ve found it. Julep “Jonna” is THE GREATEST POLISH EVER MADE.

Described as an iguana green duochrome, “Jonna” is possibly the most amazing and beautiful polish ever. It shifts from a pale green to a vibrant turquoise – I don’t even know how that’s possible. Science.

“Jonna” reminds me of the iguana we used to have, “Cheech”. He was one of the most beautiful iguanas I’ve ever seen and reasonably tame. I think he thought I was his girlfriend – he mounted my arm and bit my finger once when I was hand-feeding him.

The polish went on smoothly – no brush marks like many chromed polishes. This is two coats with Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and “HK Girl”.

The polish was super long-lasting as well. I was able to wear it from Thursday to Wednesday with minimal wear – a whole week!

Peri-Twinkle

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Ooooh…BLURPLE!

Sinful Colors “Peri-Twinkle” is a very sheer blurple shimmer. It leans more blue than purple, but the purple is definitely there. This is just two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under “HK Girl”. It was a thinner formula – very easy to apply.

“Peri-Twinkle” is from a Christmas Collection. It doesn’t feel very Christmas to me, but maybe Hanukkah? Yes, let’s say that this is a Hanukkah polish!

Cheeto Dust

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

My animosity towards the color orange is well known. It just isn’t my color. But for some reason, I intentionally chose this very orange polish in last month’s Julep box. Why? I do not know.

This is not Construction Paper Orange. This is not Traffic Cone Orange. This is not Tang Orange. This is not Pumpkin Orange. This is not Longhorn Orange. This is not Doritos Orange. This is…Cheeto Dust orange! Not Cheetos themselves, but that delicious dust…the best part really is the licking of the fingers, isn’t it?

This is two coats of Julep “Nadine” over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and under “HK Girl”.

Jam Out with your Clam Out

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

I needed to clear my nail “palate” after the very glittery “Serenity”. I grabbed Sinful Colors “Jam Out”, a new addition to their core collection.

“Jam Out” looks like a washed out pastel pink on first glance…but there’s more. There’s a luminous green shimmer underneath that pink. Can you see it on the bottle?

This is two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under “HK Girl”.

I can’t hear the phrase “Jam Out” without adding “with your clam out”. I am so sorry – I know something is wrong with me…but isn’t this polish kind of…”clam” colored?

Jade Kat

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Sinful Colors “Jade Kat” was the first polish I grabbed from last week’s haul. I needed a contrast from the pink of “Hayat”, so I went with this bluish green shimmer. It’s a new add to the core collection – I dig it.

“Jade Kat” was sheerer than I expected. This is two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under “HK Girl”.

I cut my nails back down to nubs. I should’ve trimmed my index finger more, but it’s growing in so strong – I couldn’t cut off my best nail!

So we painted our breakfast nook yellow. Or shall I say, “Equatorial”. New nail pic background #1!

Hayat

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Hayat is the Arabic word for life. “Hayat” gives me life.

Julep “Hayat” (blazing hibiscus creme) was my first pick from this month’s Julep box. After Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat, the first coat seemed impossibly thick. It wasn’t too streaky, but I was concerned that a second coat would be goopy. I very carefully did a second coat and although there were a few goops – it was absolutely user error.

It was the perfect background for these little palm tree decals – also from this month’s box. Peeling those suckers up with tweezers was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It was like brain surgery…my apologies to real brain surgeons. I ever so lightly pressed them down and finished with a thick ole layer of “HK Girl”.

These would look SO good with my flamingo swimsuit!

What’s A Budget?

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

“What’s A Budget?” by Trust Fund Beauty came in last month’s ipsy bag. Now that’s a good polish for me – I keep talking about having a budget, but then I just buy whatever I want anyway.

I’m not quite sure how to categorize this color – ipsy says it’s sea foam blue, but there’s a hint of tropical mint. Or maybe mojito? There’s a hint of shimmer in the polish, but it’s hard to see in the picture. Coincidentally, it perfectly matches the color we are painting our living room – Behr “Island Oasis”.

I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat. The first coat was thick, streaky and gross. I nearly gave up and took it off. I persisted and painted a second coat. Like magic, it leveled out and the streaks disappeared. How about that…“HK Girl” finished the job.

I would have kept it on longer, but the edges looked shit after taping off the kitchen…

Marisol

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Julep “Marisol”golden amber metallic – reminds me of a huge hunk of petrified amber, full of glowing bubble that catch the light.

When I picked my Julep box last month, I had no idea how beautiful this polish would be. I just got lucky, I guess

This is two coats of “Marisol” over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat. The polish is smooth, not bumpy – so I finished with “HK Girl”.

Is it me, or is my index fingernail too long? I feel like it’s too long. I just hate to cut a strong nail that’s not chipping.
