Candy Ginger

I’ve been very vocal in the past about my discomfort with yellow nail polishes. Sinful Colors “Candy Ginger” is a Jelly Topper from this holiday’s “Jingle Jells” Collection. I fell in love with this polish – it didn’t make me look like Marge Simpson AT all.

I think the key is the matte finish – I used Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat on all my nails, except the thumb and ring finger. (I picked it up during the Black Friday sale, when I replenished my supply of the regular top coat, but I didn’t make a post about it.) Glisten & Glow is the best matte top coat I’ve tried…although admittedly, only one of two I’ve tried. The Zoya Matte Top Coat is fine, but it has a tendency to get white and crusty around the edges of my nails – Glisten & Glow does not do that, at least not yet.

I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and then did two coats of “Candy Ginger”. This is just two coats! I then used either Glisten & Glow Top Coat or Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat. I love, love, love the Matte ones. Matte ALL the nails!

Down to Earth

I couldn’t resist digging into my new Sinful Colors polishes as soon as I got them home!

I had been coveting Sinful Colors “Down to Earth” for months and months – probably over a year! I’d seen it on Insta, but never come across it in person. In fact, I’d only come across ONE of the “Moon Metals” Collection – “Cherish Me”.

“Down to Earth” is one of those odd color combinations that I LOVE – a shimmery copper, flecked with blue and silver dome glitters.

This is three thin coats of “Down to Earth” over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. The polish is very thin and the glitters are very sparse, but they stick better with each coat. I bet four coats would’ve been magical…

Inspired by Brianna

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I thought I was obsessed with Sinful Colors…until I joined a Sinful Colors fb group. These ladies are giving me run for my money – and I am loving it! They are giving me so much inspiration and commiseration about how hard it is to find the Limited Edition shades at Walgreen’s these days. I was immediately inspired by a manicure I saw by a girl named Brianna (@simplynails94), that I had to imitate it.

I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and two coats of Sinful Colors “No Filter”. (“No Filter” actually belongs to my daughter – she had picked out for herself.) I topped with a coat of “Zest of Times”, one of my favorite pink toppers. I finished with Glisten & Glow Top Coat, although I wish I had tried a matte coat instead.

This combination seemed so familiar – I searched my site and it turns out I had done something similar a few years ago, layering “Zest of Times” over “Starry Night”.

Once Bitten

Once Bitten is a seriously underrated movie. A young, virginal Jim Carrey, lured into the sordid world of vampires while searching the streets of LA for sex…oh wait, wrong site.

This is Sinful Colors “Bitten”, one of my Halloween scores. Red nails go with everything, really. This is two coats of “Bitten” over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

A juicy red crelly, it’s another dupe for Zoya “Sooki”. I keep buying the same polishes, over and over.

Mist-erious

Isn’t this color…mist-erious?

Not mysterious, as in “filled with mystery”, but mist-erious…as in “filled with mist”?

This is another Halloween polish – Sinful Colors “Mist-erious”. It’s very similar in finish to “Spellbound”, but light blue instead of light purple. At first, I thought it was a dupe for “Cinderella”, but “Cinderella” is slightly more greenish and more sheer and iridescent.

This is two coats of “Mist-erious”, over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Spellbound

Let’s have a moment of silence for my luxe long nails. After spending several days helping my sister look through boxes and pack and move, my nails were starting to see the signs. I’s already snagged and ripped two nails while washing my hair and I could tell that several more were approaching that point. even though the new hair and nail vitamins I got from Amazon have made my nails stronger than ever, they couldn’t take all that abuse. I just went ahead and cut them short…some of them TOO short. I foolishly decided to try cutting my nails BEFORE removing the polish, thinking that without being distracted by my nail line, I could get a more symmetrical shape. Nope – didn’t help, plus – I just ended up cutting them too short. Look at my index finger – I cut it almost to the quick!

Excusing the short toddler nails, what do you think of Sinful Colors “Spellbound”? It’s a lavender shimmer from this Halloween’s “Conjured Color” Collection. This is two coats of “Spellbound” over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

At first, I thought “Spellbound” was a dupe for Zoya “Leslie”, but “Leslie” is more purple – if that makes sense? “Spellbound” also has far more shimmer – it’s not just a flash, like “Leslie”.

Witch, Please

Of course, Sinful Colors “Witch, Please” was the first polish I sampled from my score last week. I love a sassy nail polish name.

“Witch, Please” is a bright blue jelly base, filled with iridescent flakies. Although a single coat was somewhat sheer, I got nearly full coverage in two coats. The sheer quality of the polish gives the finished look a certain depth of field, since you can see the flakies layered upon one another.

This is two coats of “Witch, Please” over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

I admit, “Witch, Please” is very similar to a Halloween polish from last year – Pure Ice “I Want You to Haunt Me”. The Pure Ice one is more purple leaning, while “Witch, Please” is a truer blue.

On Wednesday, We Shop at Walgreen’s (and Ulta)

Sinful Colors were 5/$5 this week – only 6 weeks or so since the last sale!

I set aside my entire Wednesday to Walgreen’s hop, so I’d be sure to find Halloween polishes. As luck would have it, I found most of the 2018 Halloween Collection, “Conjured Color”, at the first Walgreen’s. I picked up “Witch, Please”, “Mist-erious”, “Bitten”, “Bad Witch”, and “Spellbound”. Score! I also grabbed a few Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit Liquid Lipsticks from the Halloween Display – “Bewitched” and “Shady Witch”. No “Zombie Blush” in the Halloween Display though. I didn’t realize it, but I had accrued $10 in Bonus Bucks – Score again!

I hit three more Walgreen’s in search of “Zombie Blush” – nothing. (That might sound like a lot of driving, but it was a really tight circle in the Richmond/Katy area. Plus, I drive a Hybrid, so…) I made a quick stop at my Ulta, but no luck there…at first. I immediately spied an OPI Grease Collection Mini Set ($10.97, down from $14.50) and grabbed it for Lily (and myself, I admit). I was about to leave, when I checked a random aisle of hair ties and stuff…and there was the Wet N Wild “Zombie Blush” Display!!! It was $5.99, plus I grabbed another Halloween Liquid Catsuit – “Pink Your Poison”. I hate when ulta has the lame 20% off one item coupons. I couldn’t use it on a clearance item, so I got 20% off my “Zombie Blush” – a measly $1.20 off. At least they have a 3x points for Platinum going this week.

The “Zombie Blush” is amazing! It looks like a grungy grey-green in the pan, but shifts to a rusty reddish shade on your cheeks or eyes. Be warned – a little goes a long, LONG way. It is reminiscent of the color shifting shade in the “Plaid to the Bone” Quad I got a while back.

On a side note, on Friday, I went to a fifth Walgreen’s, still searching for more colors. I found 4 polishes, plus the Matte Top Coat from the “Radical Matte” Collection…but when I went to check out and this collection wasn’t included in the sale. I had to walk away…

Neon Rainbow

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

My cousin Kelley wanted rainbow nails, so she got rainbow nails! Neon rainbow nails.

After Sinful Colors Base Coat, I started with two coats of each neon color on each nail. I then used a dotting tool to dot them up with color of an adjoining nail. (I did a different order on each hand, swipe right to see the right hand.) I finished with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

The pink is a shimmery Barbie pink, named “Safari Not Sorry”.

The neon mango polish is growing on me – it’s called “Off Tropic”.

“Palm Down” is by far my favorite polish, a pearly, Kermit green. I also used this polish on my toes, no dots though.

Or is “Poison Arrow” my favorite polish, also named for the very dangerous frog.

I am not sure how I feel about “Amazon Woman”, the purple polish. It’s almost fuchsia, but it’s not. I forgive you, “Amazon Woman”.

Even though I’ve technically tried all of these polishes, I still want to try each of them alone on my nails, so keep an eye out for them – you ‘ll be seeing them again soon.

About Dang Time!

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

6 months…6 months I’d been waiting for Sinful Colors to go on sale at Walgreens! The last sale was in February!

Finally, they went on sale this past week – 5/$5. I took this opportunity to get the whole Limited Edition Neon Collection: the pink is “Safari No Sorry”, the tangerine one is “Off Tropic”, the green one is “Palm Down”, the blue one is “Poison Arrow” (just like the frog!), and the violet one is “Amazon Woman”.

I found these on Monday. I also wanted to pick up some Halloween polishes, but the location by my work didn’t have many – I needed another 5! I stopped by two more on the way home from work – no Halloween displays.

On Wednesday, I had to stop by the Walgreens by my surgeon’s office for waterproof bandages, and again – no new polish displays.

On Friday, my son had a headache after Schlitterbahn, so we stopped at a Walgreen’s in Seguin. No new displays there either.

I swear, it’s a fucking conspiracy.
