Suck it, Chanel

/

I’ve been getting Consumer Reports for years and I can honestly say that they’ve never steered me wrong. I learn something new with every issue…that I get around to reading. This month’s issue, however, contained information that I already knew – expensive isn’t necessarily better when it comes to nail polish.

Consumer Reports tested 7 polishes, ranging from luxury brand Chanel at $27 to drugstore brand Sinful Colors at $2. Surprise! Sinful Colors won! Read the entire article on Consumer Reports site.

Since Walgreen’s has Sinful Colors on sale for 99 cents again…I decided to celebrate their victory. I picked up 6: “Tokyo Pearl” – pearly white, “Cinderella” – literally the color of Cinderella’s dress, iridescent baby blue, “Hot Chili” – rusty red shimmer with red holographic glitter, “Yellow Spotted” – bright yellow shimmer, “Green Ocean” – light green jelly with iridescent green glitter and “Pinky Glitter” – pink jelly with iridescent glitter. Are you sensing a theme? Lots of iridescence and glitter?

20 Polishes

The other day, I told my husband that I wish I had 10 more fingers. He laughed and said, “You do – they’re called toes.” Painting my toenails is just not the same as painting my fingernails. They’re hard to reach and all different shapes. Plus, I hardly ever have a chance to show off my toes. I have so many ideas for polish combinations, plus – I’ve bought or been gifted about 25 polishes JUST in the month of May (which isn’t over yet.) Sure, I can practice on my junk mail, but it’s just not the same…what do I do? I stay up late and do a different combination on each finger!

Good Intentions

/

My intention when I walked into Big Lots today was just to pick up some Veggie Straws. Maybe some Zone Bars and Pop Tarts…the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I saw The Healing Garden “Passionate Rose” Rainwater Body Mist first. I’m always on the lookout for Rose scented stuff – it’s rare and The Healing Garden is a good brand and you can’t beat $1.50.

I was disappointed that they were out of Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream. That stuff is $12.99 at regular stores and I wanted some for $5. I did find some cheap cotton rounds – I hope they don’t suck.

I turned the corner and there were several new bins of $1.00 fingernail polish. I controlled myself and picked out 5. Sinful Colors “Nova” is black with green and silver shimmer. Sally Hansen Diamond Strength “Sparkling Rose” is, well, sparkling rose. Revlon “Brilliant Bordeaux” is black with fuchsia and silver holographic bar glitter. Revlon “Ruby Ribbon” is fuchsia with fuchsia and silver holographic bar glitter. Julie G “Gift Wrapped” is fuchsia microglitter. I’m not familiar with Julie G – I hope it’s not shit.

It just goes to show that I cannot be trusted to go shopping ANYWHERE.

Mardi Gross

/

This is not what I had in mind at all. Imagining the two polishes together, I thought my nails would look like the beach at high noon, the sun’s rays glinting off the sea foam, seashells glittering in the surf. I was dead wrong.

Instead, my nails look like Bourbon Street the day after Fat Tuesday – cheap beads floating in a river of vomit and piss. Mardi Gross.

To be fair, I only put down one coat of Julep “Kennedy” and I should have put down two. I totally misunderstood how Sinful Colors “Bombshell” would look. I should have swatched. ALWAYS swatch.

Excuse me while I go remove this crap and try something else…

The Good Kind of Cheap

/

My BFF says I’m cheap…”but it’s the good kind of cheap!”

I won’t argue or try to defend myself – I’m always looking for a bargain. Any store I visit, I usually make a beeline for the clearance section. Running into Walgreen’s to buy a soda, I’ve gotta stroll by the clearance endcap in the back of the store. I couldn’t pass up Sinful Colors “Inkwell” for 67 cents and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri “Magenta Motion” for $1.79. (The Insta-Dri is for Dottie’s claws – gotta have the fast drying stuff for pets…and for six year olds, for that matter.)

Cold, Hard Betrayal

/

This is what COLD, HARD BETRAYAL looks like.

Dr. Goddess suggested a manicure that depicts cold, hard betrayal and this was my brainstorm – the bleeding cracks represent broken trust. Deep, huh?

Actually, I just put a coat of Julep “Glenda” over my Arrest Me RedSinful Colors “Under 18” and Sally Hansen Gem Crush “Cha-Ching!”. I finished with Julep Freedom Polymer Topcoat.

Of all the crackle coats I’ve tried, I think I like Julep’s the best. Sally Hansen is goopy, Revlon doesn’t work and OPI is unpredictable. I wonder how “Glenda” would look over chunky glitter?

I’m a Sinful Glitterwhore

/

I wanted a coke, so I spent my lunch break at Walgreen’s…

I am so full of shit, I can taste it. I just wanted some more cheap fingernail polish…because I am a glitterwhore. Oh, and Easter Candy is now 75% off – more Russell Stover Eggs, Ghiradelli squares and CHOCOLATE COVERED PEEPS.

I picked up 3 glitters from Sinful Colors – “Nail Junkie” (an apt name for my illness and this blue glitter), “Bombshell” (reminds me of the beach – gold and aqua glitter, with a little bit of pink) and “Call You Later” (Shamrock green glitter).

My husband wants to paint a car with “Call You Later” – he sheepishly admitted it to me when he was inspecting my purchases. How many bottles of polish would it take to paint a car???

Arrest Me Red

/

When in doubt, ask Facebook.

I put it out there last night that I couldn’t decide what color to paint my nails and the first response that I got was “Arrest Me Red” – which sparked my trip to Walgreens to find a “better” red than the dozen or so I already had…so THIS is what “Arrest Me Red” looks like. I used Sinful Colors “Under 18” and Sally Hansen Gem Crush “Cha-Ching!” for the party nail.

I actually used to drive an “Arrest Me Red” 2001 Mercury Cougar. I never got arrested while driving it and I only got one speeding ticket in it…but, to be fair, I was speeding so much, that I couldn’t even take Defensive Driving to get out of the ticket (92 in a 65). I blame Pantera, not the car. Listening to Pantera gets your ass in TROUBLE.

Sinful Shopping

/

I don’t always shop at Walgreen’s…but when I do…I buy a bunch of shit I don’t need.

I couldn’t resist Sinful Colors Nail Polish on sale for 99 cents (It’s $1.99 usually – still pretty cheap, even though it’s as good as OPI). I picked up “Under 18” (deep shimmery red), “Sugar Sugar” (an even deeper shimmery red, with microglitter) and “Starry Night” (black with silver holographic glitter). They didn’t have my BFF’s favorite color – fuchsia glitter in black polish…I WANT it.

I needed more red polish – I only have a dozen or so bottles!

I also picked up a bunch of clearance Easter candy: Speckled Jelly Eggs for my husband and chocolate for me – Ghiradelli Squares and Russell Stover Eggs. Mmmmmm…

Big Lots is Cheap as Shit

/

I didn’t really expect to find anything good at Big Lots when I went looking for cheap gift bags…but of course I did.

I’m continuing to be an amateur and bought a tube of Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream for $5. I also picked up some Monster High Shampoo/Conditioner for my daughter. I hope it doesn’t give her a rash.

My best find was the lip balm I found for the kids – Bacon and Mac & Cheese. The Bacon lip balm smells like dog treats – but the Mac & Cheese lip balm is even worse…it smells like FEET. Straight up, dirty feet like my daughter’s gymnastics school. Yeah, my kids put that shit on their mouth. Ick.

I controlled myself from buying any fingernail polish. Mostly they had cheap, no-name shit…but they did have a bin of China Glaze, Revlon, Sinful Colors and stuff for $1-$2. All the colors were ugly though…
