St. Patrick’s Day Nails

/

Oh, I have been waiting for weeks to try out these pretty greens!

After Sinful Colors Base Coat, I painted two coats of Sinful Colors “Happy Ending” – those folks at Sinful Colors are FILTHY. It’s a beautiful kelly green that goes on smooth. I used Sinful Colors “Shamrockin” on my thumb and ring finger – it would be just too much on every finger…that and it was hella-hard getting those little non-clover flowers out of the bottle. A coat of “HK Girl” made them super shiny and smoothed out those bumpy flowers.

Now no one can pinch me tomorrow!

My 1st Jamicure

/

I couldn’t think of anything else to hold, so I just grabbed this cute Blue Q soap that I got from my big sister for Xmas.

I got my first Jamberry order yesterday, just in time for my Spring Break trip. Since I’ll be gone until Sunday, I’ll be too busy with my “old people friends” (my son’s words, not mine) knitting and drinking Ensure daiquiris to play with my nails.

I decided to start out with “Dia de los Muertos”, because of course I did. It took WAY longer than I thought it would – I had only ever done accent nails before. It took longer than painting my nails…BUT as soon as I was done, I didn’t have to wait for it to dry or anything, so I still think I ended up ahead. I got a few wrinkles in the tips – probably because I have very long nail beds and very curved fingernails. I’m hoping I get better with practice.

I’m hoping that it still looks good on Sunday…

Can’t Leave Well Enough Alone

/

I decided to “jazz up” Julep “Janet” with some glitter dots in essie Luxeffects “A Cut Above”. I just can’t leave well enough alone.

I should have guessed that dotting tools wouldn’t work well with glitter polishes. The glitter just gooped up and got sticky almost immediately.

Although I may have failed in execution, I really like these two polishes together. It doesn’t look horrible, but you should see my other hand…

Dammit Janet

/

Julep “Janet” was my sole polish choice for the March box. An “It Girl” polish, Julep’s site describes it as pale peach soft focus (semi-matte). It’s similar to an eggshell finish house paint – not glossy and not flat. It’s much more classy than I am – I feel like a hand model in a wedding ring ad. “A diamond is forever” and all that jazz.

I used Sinful Colors Base Coat. A few of my nails peeled – can you tell on my middle finger?

You know what it reminds me of? Silly Putty! It’s soft like Silly Putty, too. I woke up with cross-hatch indentations on my nails. Aw, dammit Janet!

March Julep Maven Box – The POP! Collection

/

I was all ready to start bitching about slower shipping this month, then I was like, “DUH. February is a short month.”

“The POP! Collection” is March’s theme. Lots of creamy spring colors. I totally customized my box this month. I picked Light on Your Lips lip color in “Primp” (it’s a Marsala-ish neutral; I tried it today and it was very, very dry, but ti stayed put until I had to put lip balm on), Get in Line invisible lip liner (I also tried it today and didn’t notice much; I need to try with my Benetint, which bled all over my face yesterday) and It Girl “Janet”, one of their new Soft Focus Finish polishes. I used Jules to add Ctrl-Z Makeup Eraser to my box – will this be the product that finally ends my games of eyeliner chicken???

I am really tempted to get the Lucky Mystery Box…I haven’t decided yet. I haven’t gotten a Mystery Box since the Golden Ticket Mystery Box last May. I am verklempt! I really want to name my own polish though…

Corpse Flower

/

Totally unintentionally, I matched my nails to Lily’s newest Monster High Doll – Amanita Nightshade, Bad Seed of the Corpse Flower. It was a birthday gift from my BFF and by far, the bitchingest one she has…except maybe for Skelita, the Day of the Dead doll.

After Orly Bonder, I used 2 coats of Nanacoco “Illusionist”, a pretty purple. I topped with Nanacoco “Emerald City”, a green glitter with a flash of rainbow & blue. “Emerald City” was a bit sharp & bumpy, so I topped with “HK Girl” and it smoothed out.

I have 3 different polishes called “Emerald City” – the Nanacoco, a Julep and a Maybelline Color Show. It’s a popular polish name…

Cheetah Cherry Tomato

/

I took off the flowery glitter, but kept my Jamberry “Cheetah Illusion” accent nails. I wanted to try something more sophisticated…

I decided to try the L’Oreal mystery red (seriously, I cannot figure out what this color is called) from November’s BB5. It’s similar to Zoya “Sooki”, but thinner. There’s a slight hint of orange to this red. It’s like a bright, red cherry tomato!

Even with Orly Bonder to make it stick and “HK Girl” as armor, I’m already starting to get killer edge wear. So rude.

Can’t Hardly Wait

/

I placed a Jamberry order for my party (couldn’t wait), but I haven’t gotten it yet. Kimberly sent me some samples to hand out (hit me up if you’re local) and I couldn’t resist snagging one to try out – “Cheetah Illusions” on my ring finger. Doesn’t it look like a 3D image without 3D glasses on? The red and the blue shift?

I decided to pair it with two of my new polishes – Sinful Colors “Flower Power” and “Petal be the Day”. I thought they would match a little better, but whatever. I LOVE “Flower Power” – the light pink base gives good coverage to my stained nails. I wasn’t thrilled with the lack of coverage with “Petal Be the Day”. As Luci said, I need to start a pile of “top coat only” polishes. Of course, Sinful Colors Base Coat and “HK Girl” for the top coat. I swear, “HK Girl” shrank again – look at my middle finger!

My Party is still going – click here to join.

Rosa Naked

/

So I totally forgot that Julep “Rosa” – Amethyst for February has a clear base. I thought it was darker, but I had forgotten that I had used another color underneath it. Hmmm…it decided to shrink away from the tips. Now it looks like I don’t know how to paint my nails. I even used Orly Bonder to make sure it stuck.

What the fuck?

The Owls are Not What They Seem

Since yesterday was “Twin Peaks Day” – February 24, 1989 was the day that Special Agent Dale Cooper arrived in Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of Laura Palmer – I decided to use Hare Polish “The Owls are Not What They Seem”.

It kinda reminds me of an owl, but more than anything, it looks like my granite countertops. The countertops are not what they seem. There should be a green version of this polish called “Green Formica Table”?

I used Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat and “HK Girl” for the top coat. The “HK Girl” shrank! Ugh. On the bright side, it’s a fairly uniform shrunken edge.
