Misty Day

/

Here’s another polish from Delush Polish’s “Scream Supreme” Collection“Misty Day”, named for the swamp witch gifted with powers of regeneration in American Horror Story: Coven. I really didn’t care much for Misty Day – mostly because of her obsession with the musical delights of Stevie Nicks. If you could teach a cat in heat to smoke cigarettes…that’s Stevie Nicks.

“Bitchcraft” was no fluke – “Misty Day” is just as perfect. No dabbing or fishing, just paint your goddamn nails and they look fucking awesome. I stayed with the Orly Bonder as a basecoat, but that might have been a mistake – this glitter is a sonuvabitch to get off. It took 30 minutes. I was MUCH happier using Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the topcoat – it’s much smoother, although not 100% smooth.

Extreme Bedroom Makeover

/

So….my nail polish collection has gotten a little bit out of control. I’ve been fine the last few years, storing them in a plastic caddy, but then I filled both sides and had to get another caddy for remover and tools and then even that was not enough. I’ve got polishes EVERYWHERE – on the floor, on my vanity table, still in stacked subscription boxes…not to mention scattered through the rest of the house.

It’s not just the polishes that are the problem – it’s the subscription boxes. Since I’m a hoarder, I can’t throw any of the boxes away because I NEED them. I use them to mail stuff, to put gifts in and I’ve also started covering them with fancy Duck Tape to use for storage. The problem is that I get boxes faster than I can use them. Not to mention all the samples that come in those boxes – they are stacked up everywhere as well.

Again, Angie is my inspiration. I had been really considering getting a HELMER from IKEA (the nail blogger holy grail of nail polish storage), but I don’t quite have THAT much polish. (The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Obviously, I’m not there yet.) Angie suggested getting a RÅSKOG instead – it lets you see what you’ve got. We finally made the long trek to IKEA yesterday and I picked one up – after visiting my grandparents, who are conveniently buried across the street from IKEA. (It’s like they planned it.)

I put all of my polishes into the bottom two trays – including my Julep Color Caddy. I may end up booting it if I run out of room, but it’s so pretty! I tried to clean up the lotions and other stuff on my vanity – I dusted and culled a few old bottles. What I really need to do is clean out the drawers, which are filled mostly with jewelry – important stuff I inherited from my mother and grandmother, but also stupid stuff, like my elementary school jewelry. That’s a project that would take an entire weekend…at the very least.

The vanity itself was my grandmother’s. The finish is horrible – scratched and scuffed – but I don’t have the gumption yet to refinish it like I did my other vanity. (I did a red and black crackle finish on the other one – it’s beautiful, but it was a pain in the ass.) I went ahead and put all my boxes underneath it, I don’t sit at it, so really it’s just storage.

I’m very happy with the result. I expect I’ll outgrow my RÅSKOG soon, but I’ve got room for another…

Bitchcraft

/

Here it is – the first of the 7 polishes in Delush Polish’s “Scream Supreme” Collection.

Of course I started with “Bitchcraft”. It’s a black jelly with different sizes and shades of pink glitter – from pale pink to fuchsia. It’s inspired by the 3rd season of American Horror Story – Coven. This polish makes me think of cunty Madison, played by Emma Roberts.

I used Orly Bonder for the basecoat and then painted 2 coats of “Bitchcraft”. This is the most perfect glitter I have ever used. No dabbing, no fishing. I literally just painted my nails and this is how it turned out. Absolutely stress-free glitter. The only thing I would do differently is use a different top coat. I used NYC “Grand Central Station”. The formula is too thin and it didn’t create a smooth top layer – it sunk into the cracks.

While I was at HEB, I grabbed a replacement bottle of Sally Hansen Diamond Flash – I won’t go through the disappointment of “Grand Central Station” again.

Next up – “Misty Day”.

Angie is a Genius

/

I don’t know if it because I’m a hoarder or if I’m just lazy, but when I buy something and don’t like it – I usually just keep it. When I tried out the Sinful Colors Quick Dry Topcoat and was disappointed by it, I just threw it in my huge pile of polish. Angie suggested that I return it and get 3 more polishes…

Since I had to make a late Walgreen’s run last night to get Zyrtec (actually Wal-Zyr since I’m cheap) for my son, I grabbed that Quick Dry to return. I was disappointed that this Walgreen’s didn’t have their Sinful Colors Xmas displays out yet, so I picked 3 from the regular collection – “Charmed”, “Mint Apple” and “Forget Now”.

Also…the girly who checked me out LOVED my Supreme shirt.

Delush Polish – The Scream Supreme Collection

/

…and now I delve into the world of Indie Polish…there’s no going back now.*

Indie polish is big on Instagram and I follow quite a few of them, but Delush Polish is the first one that caught my eye enough (the polish “Misty Day” specifically) to make me say, “I have to go online and buy these NOW.” I love that there are creative people out there with the vision and creativity to make a product that goes beyond what’s available in stores…that being said, most Indies ain’t cheap. Delush Polish is actually pretty affordable – $8.95 each – or about as much as OPI, essie, etc. The mini bottles are only $4 – I sprang for the whole set of 7 and got an even sweeter deal with a 15% off code from Instagram. Buy the set HERE.

“The Scream Supreme Collection” is inspired by the show, American Horror Story and there are polishes inspired by every season. The Collection includes (from left to right): “Freak Show Spectacle”, “Bitchcraft”, “A Night in the Asylum”, “Rubberman”, “The Supreme”, “Murder House” and the prettiest – “Misty Day”.

I’ll be starting with “Bitchcraft” tonight!

* I’m wearing my “Supreme” shirt from Tee Fury today…isn’t it fucking awesome? I can’t wait to give my BFF hers…

How’s Annie? How’s Annie? How’s Annie?

In honor of the recently announced return of Twin Peaks in 2016, I created a manicure inspired by the very last words in the very last episode – “How’s Annie?”

I started with the Sinful Colors Basecoat. In order to create the look of bloody glass, I started with 2 coats of Sinful Colors “No Text Red” and then did a gradient with Julep “Kirby”. I smoothed the jagged glitter with NYC “Grand Central Station”.

“No Text Red” is very nearly a dupe for Zoya “Sooki”. The color match is exact and the formula is very similar. Yay!

My BFF has been vacationing in the Pacific Northwest this week and got to visit The Salish Lodge & Spa – AKA The Great Northern. So, so jealous! I definitely wanna go to Washington and check it out.

October Ipsy Bag – Beauty Candy

/

My ipsy bag is here…later than ever.

This is the first bag that I’ve gotten that I’m totally BLAH about the contents. There were a lot of great products this month – Figs & Rouge, Smashbox – I just didn’t get any of them.

October’s theme is “Beauty Candy” and I received Ayres Patagonia Body Butter (Rosemary to match the shower gel in my Birchbox?); Épicé International Purifying Exfoliant; ModelCo VOLUMEYES Extreme Eyes Mascara (2 ModelCo Mascaras in one month?); Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in “On a Gilt Trip” (I finally received a polish in my bag!); and noyah lipstick in “Deeply Mauve” (this actually looks like a cool color).

I find it interesting that my ipsy bag very nearly duplicates some of the the scents and products in my Birchbox. Food for thought…

If you’d like to try Ipsy – click here. I’ll earn 250 points if you sign up through my link.

FABulous DRAGon

/

I was not too in love with my Gumby nails. Since I didn’t get to put a shiny top coat on, it was bugging the crap out of me.

Glitter fixes everything, right?

I tried a single coat of essie Luxeffects “A Cut Above” to jazz it up. The glitter looks like badass reptilian scales. Now I look like a FABulous DRAGon – like a real life version of a Drag Queen Dragon! Or that sexy lady dragon on Shrek?

Lunchtime Haul

/

Sooooo…since I picked up the wrong Sinful Colors top coat, I figured I would look for a better one…but guess what? Sinful Colors doesn’t make a polish top coat that’s quick dry. Well damn. That’s okay – Sinful Colors are still on sale…and the Kempwood location already has a Xmas display out!

I picked up “Twilight Twinkles”, jagged gold flakie glitter; “Gilded”, gold and red microglitter (possibly a dupe for Julep “Love”?); “Calypso”, a dark teal creme; and “No Text Red”, a bright red creme (like I need another one!) promoting their “No texting & driving” campaign. (I’m supposed to paint my thumbnail red to remind me to not text and drive. Weird.)

I also bopped over to Bath & Body Works to use some coupons. I used a coupon for a free travel size – but I got the wrong thing! I’m trading out my travel size toiletries from “Carried Away” to “Mad About You”, but I couldn’t remember the last thing I needed. I needed a shower gel, but now I have 2 lotions. Damnit. I also had a coupon for $5 Body Cream, instead of the normal $12.50. At least I got the right scent – “White Citrus”.

I somehow managed to resist the 7/$24 Hand Soap Sale….even though I also had a 20% coupon…maybe next time.

Gumby?

/

At first I thought of green Play-Doh, but then I was like…no – Gumby!

Lily also wanted her nails done and she demanded that we match. I tried to talk her into Sinful Colors “Vintage”, but refused. She chose Funky Fingers “Oogie Boogie”, Sinful Colors “Pine Away” & “Mystery Moonshine” and China Glaze “Four Leaf Clover”. I couldn’t handle all of those together…but I picked something close.

I tried out the Sinful Colors Basecoat – it was fine. It went on smoothly and dried quickly, no complaints. I put on 2 coats of “Four Leaf Clover” and then topped with Sinful Colors “Green Ocean”.

I tried out the Sinful Colors Quick Dry…and I totally misunderstood the product I was buying. I thought it was a quick dry top coat, but it is a quick dry oil – like Julep Ta-Da! Well fuck. I already have 2 bottles of Ta-Da! and I don’t really use them. The combination REALLY needed a shiny topcoat – the flakies in “Green Ocean” sank into the polish and made the finish all cloudy. Since I had already started with the Quick Dry, I couldn’t put another top coat over it. Live and learn…
