Witch, Please

Of course, Sinful Colors “Witch, Please” was the first polish I sampled from my score last week. I love a sassy nail polish name.

“Witch, Please” is a bright blue jelly base, filled with iridescent flakies. Although a single coat was somewhat sheer, I got nearly full coverage in two coats. The sheer quality of the polish gives the finished look a certain depth of field, since you can see the flakies layered upon one another.

This is two coats of “Witch, Please” over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

I admit, “Witch, Please” is very similar to a Halloween polish from last year – Pure Ice “I Want You to Haunt Me”. The Pure Ice one is more purple leaning, while “Witch, Please” is a truer blue.

On Wednesday, We Shop at Walgreen’s (and Ulta)

Sinful Colors were 5/$5 this week – only 6 weeks or so since the last sale!

I set aside my entire Wednesday to Walgreen’s hop, so I’d be sure to find Halloween polishes. As luck would have it, I found most of the 2018 Halloween Collection, “Conjured Color”, at the first Walgreen’s. I picked up “Witch, Please”, “Mist-erious”, “Bitten”, “Bad Witch”, and “Spellbound”. Score! I also grabbed a few Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit Liquid Lipsticks from the Halloween Display – “Bewitched” and “Shady Witch”. No “Zombie Blush” in the Halloween Display though. I didn’t realize it, but I had accrued $10 in Bonus Bucks – Score again!

I hit three more Walgreen’s in search of “Zombie Blush” – nothing. (That might sound like a lot of driving, but it was a really tight circle in the Richmond/Katy area. Plus, I drive a Hybrid, so…) I made a quick stop at my Ulta, but no luck there…at first. I immediately spied an OPI Grease Collection Mini Set ($10.97, down from $14.50) and grabbed it for Lily (and myself, I admit). I was about to leave, when I checked a random aisle of hair ties and stuff…and there was the Wet N Wild “Zombie Blush” Display!!! It was $5.99, plus I grabbed another Halloween Liquid Catsuit – “Pink Your Poison”. I hate when ulta has the lame 20% off one item coupons. I couldn’t use it on a clearance item, so I got 20% off my “Zombie Blush” – a measly $1.20 off. At least they have a 3x points for Platinum going this week.

The “Zombie Blush” is amazing! It looks like a grungy grey-green in the pan, but shifts to a rusty reddish shade on your cheeks or eyes. Be warned – a little goes a long, LONG way. It is reminiscent of the color shifting shade in the “Plaid to the Bone” Quad I got a while back.

On a side note, on Friday, I went to a fifth Walgreen’s, still searching for more colors. I found 4 polishes, plus the Matte Top Coat from the “Radical Matte” Collection…but when I went to check out and this collection wasn’t included in the sale. I had to walk away…

Mellow Mood

It’s not nearly cold enough (in Texas) to try out a mood polish, but I was thinking that my nails are long enough that the tips would be colder than my body temperature.

They weren’t.

That’s okay – I was able to get my daughter to help me fake it with an ice pop. She held it on my nails for a minute or so, and then jumped out of frame.

Funky Fingers “Mellow Mood” is a basic lavender creme polish. When cold is applied, it turns a darker purple. This is two coats over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. I think I need to get a new bottle of Top Coat. I’ve been carefully refilling my bottle, but I feel like what’s in the bottle is thickening enough to get uneven results on my nails. I got some wrinkling on the edges of my middle and ring fingers.

Remind me to get this one back out in January!

I never thought it could take me so long to spend $6!

It’s a long story…my insurance requires me to get all my prescriptions at CVS – I have no choice as a consumer. I hate CVS, but mostly because of poor experiences at the location by my old house. This new location is actually not bad. The one benefit to filling prescriptions at CVS is the $5 in ExtraBucks for every 10 prescriptions, although I vastly preferred Target’s old system of 5% coupons, but that went away when CVS ate the Target Pharmacy. ANYWAY, with all my surgeries, I am up to my 3rd $5 in ExtraBucks, plus an additional $1 from I don’t even know where. I had made a trip a few weeks ago, birthday shopping for the bestie – but forgot to use it. So I went back….an wandered around the store for nearly an hour and could not find a single damn thing to buy. BUT…

…BUT then, I saw some very unique nail polishes in the bins by the checkout. Frida Kahlo Nail Polish! There was a red, a yellow and a blue – I picked the blue – “FKN.37” – a sort of dusty turquoise, really. What an unartistic polish name though, especially considering the work that went into the fantastic bottle art.

This is two coats of “FKN.37” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. The polish was on the thick side, but the brush was very good quality and gave a lot of control. I might have been able to go with one coat, but it was just a bit streaky, so I went with two.

I don’t know that the polish was worth $8.49 – but definitely worth $2.49.

Pink Hair, Don’t Care

That’s a lie – I do care. I care about my pink hair…very, VERY much.

I have feeling that I will be sporting pink hair for much, MUCH longer than I expected. I’ve never tried Clairol Color Crave before, but the box says it’s Semi-Permanent, lasting up to 15 washes. The shade is “Flamingo” – now you know why I bought it.) I’ve already washed it 5 times and have barely seen a change in the shade. I go back to work in a little over two weeks. Oops. Obviously, I could cover it up with brown…but I really don’t want to do that. If I have to, I can transition to red pretty easily. I’m just gonna stop worrying about it and see what happens…

ANYWAY, I wanted my nails to match my hair. I pulled nearly a dozen pink Julep polishes – I had several that were very, very close. Ultimately, I settled on Julep “Raleigh”, which I received just a few months ago. It’s the HOTTEST pink. Before a thick coat of “Raleigh”, I started with Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and streaks of Julep “Coco” to represent the brown in my hair. I guess technicality this is only one and half coats of polish? I sealed the deal with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

I also painted my toes to match, leaving out the “Coco”.

In case you’re wondering – and I know you are – my lipstick is Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liquid in “Miss Argentina”.

Pink forever!

Keller

Sheer camel holographic – stunning!

Julep “Keller” is a subtly fancy nude – you can barely see the scattered holographic bits. It’s a Wonder Maven polish from this month’s box.

This is two coats of “Keller” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat (nothing like a fresh bottle) and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

“Keller” is a good name for this nude polish – like Helen Keller, can’t see shit. Are we still allowed to make Helen Keller jokes, now that she’s been pulled from Texas curriculum?

Chantilly Lace

Oh my frickin GAWD, this polish was annoying to apply.

Deborah Lippmann “Chantilly Lace” was SO much work!

I started with Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat, which is NOT the same one I used with “I Put a Spell on You”, but I don’t think that was the issue. “Chantilly Lace” was just so thin and streaky. It took me THREE thick coats to get somewhat even. If I thought I could’ve done four without a gloppy mess – I would have tried it. I gave up and glopped on the Glisten & Glow Top Coat. For all my bitching, it turned out pretty nice.

“Chantilly Lace” DOES have a nice subtle shimmer for a mostly creme polish. It is somewhat similar to Sinful Colors “Glass Pink”, but not really.

But hey, it wasn’t as horrible as that “Pinktober” polish.

Glamoflauge

Glamoflauge – did I just invent a word?

OK, very unlikely that I am the first one to think of glamoflauge – but that is the first thing I thought of when I saw Julep “Bradley”. (I guess Julep has run out of female names to use for polish and are dipping into male names.)

“Bradley” is mesquite green with a gold ghost shimmer and came in this month’s Julep Maven box. I am starting to think that ghost shimmer means that you can see it in the bottle, but not on the nails. You can see it an itty, bitty bit, if you look really closely.

This is two coats of “Bradley” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat (the dregs of the bottle – I threw it away after this one), and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Yeah, I definitely don’t have any dupes of this polish – I mean – why?

Dream Dust

Nails Inc. “Dream Dust” is dreamy AND dusty! “Dream Dust” was my first pick to try from the Nails Inc. Unicorn Nail Polish Duo.

I just took the polish off a few minutes ago and rest assured – the gold is actually glitter, NOT shimmer. I feel like I will never get all the glitter off my skin, no matter how many times I wash my hands.

This is two coats of “Dream Dust” over Glisten & Glow Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Possible dupes are Essence “Space Glam” and Zoya “Faye”, but I feel like there’s a lot more gold in “Dream Dust” than the other two.

September 2018 Julep Maven Box – Side Hustle

Sooooo… I sure did pick some…interesting…shades for this month’s “Side Hustle” Julep Box. All of the choices were rather muted, but these colors wouldn’t be out of place on a rack of khakis at Old Navy.

Wonder Maven “Keller” is camel sheer holographic and Boho Glam “Bradley” is mesquite green with gold ghost shimmer. At least they both have some sparkle…

I also added a new bottle of Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat to my box – I’m running low.

To be honest, I’m most excited about the Rose Gold Alphabet decals – what should I spell first???
