January Ipsy Bag – Fresh Start

/

This is it – the last of my subscriptions for the month.

This might be the most cohesive Ipsy Bag that I’ve ever received – I could conceivably use all of these products together and not look like a clown! January’s theme is “Fresh Start” and includes Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush (I will never have to buy brushes again); Hikari Cosmetics Mechanical Eye Liner in “Storm”; (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm (I’m wearing it now – I leaned over to give my husband a smooch and he didn’t gag, so that’s a good sign); Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in “Ethereal”; and Velvet 59 Velvet Rose Lipgloss in “Noisette”.

I’ll be trying all these out tomorrow…

December Ipsy Bag – Thinking of You

/

I got my ipsy bag on Saturday, but I’ve been a bit bogged down in boxes…

“Thinking of you” is this month’s theme. The bag itself is everything – I love it. It is getting switched into my purse ASAP.

Inside my bag: Bumble and bumble. Repair Blow Dry; Cailyn Cosmetics Just Mineral Eye Polish in “#5 Orchid” (This is the weirdest product ever – I can’t wait to try it!); Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream; NYX Cosmetics Butter Lip Balm in “Parfait”; and tarte deluxe lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara (because I NEED more mascara).

November Ipsy Bag – Girl Meets Glitter

/

I got my ipsy bag on Friday, so sorry for the delay!

November’s bag is “Girl Meets Glitter” and I totally LOVE the glittery plastic bag from Forever 21 Cosmetics. I haven’t stepped foot in a Forever 21 in over a decade…maybe not since the 90s?

Inside my bag: Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Eye Base in “Submission”, a creamy gold taupe; J. Cat Beauty Lip Paint in “Red Potion”Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray; Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil in “Ultra Orchid”; and TEMPTU S/B Highlighter in “Pink Pearl” – and now I have 2 of these and have no idea what to do with them.

This is a pretty decent bag, but none of the products seem to go together. Gold eye shadow base with purple eye liner and red lipstick? Maybe if I was Lady Gaga…

Pumpkin Spice All the Things!

/

It’s cold outside. You know what that means? Time for the white people to PUMPKIN SPICE ALL THE THINGS!

I got one of the Ipsy Exclusive polishes in my bag last monthNicole by OPI “On A Gilt Trip”. I started with a coat of that – I was surprised that it is a full coverage matte gold – I was expecting a sheer shimmer. I topped with a coat of Sinful Colors “Pumpkin Spice”, which is gold and red glitter in a clear base. WHY is it called “Pumpkin Spice”? I would expect “Pumpkin Spice to have oranges and browns? Whatever…

I used the Sinful Colors Base Coat and Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the top coat. I took the picture at work, while I was bored waiting for a spreadsheet to calculate. WHAT? You don’t carry nail polish around in your purse at all times?

October Ipsy Bag – Beauty Candy

/

My ipsy bag is here…later than ever.

This is the first bag that I’ve gotten that I’m totally BLAH about the contents. There were a lot of great products this month – Figs & Rouge, Smashbox – I just didn’t get any of them.

October’s theme is “Beauty Candy” and I received Ayres Patagonia Body Butter (Rosemary to match the shower gel in my Birchbox?); Épicé International Purifying Exfoliant; ModelCo VOLUMEYES Extreme Eyes Mascara (2 ModelCo Mascaras in one month?); Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in “On a Gilt Trip” (I finally received a polish in my bag!); and noyah lipstick in “Deeply Mauve” (this actually looks like a cool color).

I find it interesting that my ipsy bag very nearly duplicates some of the the scents and products in my Birchbox. Food for thought…

September Ipsy Bag – Street Style

/

I was so psyched to get this month’s ipsy bag. Not only did my BFF and cousin receive theirs DAYS before I did, I had forgotten what was actually in my bag until I opened it.

The theme for September is “Street Style” and it has the cutest bag I’ve received yet – pewter vinyl with tough metal studs. the contents, however, may be the lamest that I’ve received yet: Crown Brush Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush (I am actually MOST excited about this brush); NYX Hot Singles eye shadow in “Asphyxiation” (Sparkly Midnight Blue – not sure about this one); Pacifica Natural Waterproof Eye Pencil in “Fringe” (I need another brown eyeliner like I need a hole in my head, but I’ll give it a spin); Briogeo “Don’t Despair, Repair” Deep Conditioning Mask (it’s for hair?); and Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in “Basic Instinct”.

I really wanted the Be A Bombshell “Smooth Criminal” Powder that my cousin Jess got! She was nice enough to give me the lowdown:

My review of Smooth Criminal Powder: So, I have had it on since 6am, it is now 12:15pm and skin still looks nice and feels great. Yes I can tell it has slowly come off but it looks better than a normal day. Putting it on was easy, used a small powder brush, I think it was a bare minerals one, just tapped off the extra and put it on over my foundation and before blush. Freaking face felt like silk!!!!!!!! And it looked like I had “instagram filtered” my face when I was done. LOL! I like it, great for humid weather, keeps you from getting shiny. BUT……….. In the winter when it starts to get cold and you may need to make sure to moisturize.

I also wanted the Pacifica fingernail polish instead of the eyeliner. My BFF gave me hers though – “Red Red Wine” – because she would never use it. Score!

August Ipsy Bag – Beauty Schooled

/

I received my Birchbox and Ipsy Bag on Thursday and I was just overwhelmed with goodies, so I’m just now getting around to posting my Ipsy…

August’s bag theme is “Beauty Schooled” and came with a cute barrel-shaped bag. The Urban Decay Perversion Mascara saved this bag – the rest of the contents are just so-so: Glamglow Youthmud Tingleexfoliate Treatment (they sure do like making compound words); Jersey Shore Sun “Mongongo” Lip Conditioner (I was confused until I looked at the tube and it explained – Mandarin Orange Ginger…It smells awesome – I’ve been using it before I go to bed); Lord & Berry Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil (Used this yesterday and it did a GREAT smoky eye) ; and Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo (I have no idea what to do with this product).

I tried the Perversion Mascara…it’s good, but no better than half the mascaras I own. It didn’t clump and it was black – that’s about it.

July Ipsy Bag – Sensationally Sunkissed

/

Ipsy came last this month…So slow!

“Sensationally Sunkissed” is July’s theme. I am NOT a sun worshiper, so this month’s bag isn’t quite as exciting for me as previous months. This month’s bag is bright ass hot pink vinyl with scalloped edges – very cute.

Inside this month’s bag: Elizabeth Mott Tints & Sass in “Cherry” (another lip and cheek stain); bareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 (SPF in eye shadow…odd); POP Beauty Sunkissed Bronzer in “Secret Sunshine” (maybe I can use it as blush); Faith Aromatherapy “Citrus-Ginger” Anti-Oxidant Body Lotion (smells so good); and Pur~lisse pur~protect essential daily moisturizer spf 30 (I totally used up the last Pur~lisse I got).

Ipsy Redemption

/

The squeaky wheel gets the grease…

Actually, the saying should be that the “polite” wheel gets the grease. See, there was a bit of a debacle with last month’s Ipsy bag. The Be A Bombshell “Lash Out Mascara” was stinky. It smelled like a diaper full of burning tires. I tried it once and it didn’t make me go blind, but the smell put me off and I trashed it. Instead of posting a barrage of complaints on every social media platform (I literally saw HUNDREDS), I sent a polite note to IpsyCare through their website. Within a few days, I got a polite response and a notice that they were sending me 2 Be A Bombshell products! Now THAT’S how you do customer service.

I received a deluxe sample of “It’s So Big” Volumizing Mascara to replace the stinky mascara. It smells fine! I also received a full size tube of  “Last Call Girl” lip gloss – it’s bright ass pink!

Kudos, Ipsy!

June Ipsy Bag – Pretty in Paradise

/

Ipsy came first this month…

June’s theme is “Pretty in Paradise”. This month’s bag is OUTSTANDING. It’s a a pretty Hawaiian pineapple design, made out of windbreaker material and designed by Rebecca Minkoff. (I’d never heard of her before this.)

Inside this month’s bag: Be A Bombshell “Lash Out Mascara”Marc Anthony “Dream Waves Beach Spray” (At first I thought it was the guy who used to be married to J-Lo, but then Google helped me figure out that it is a Salon chain in Canada. DOH.), NYX Butter Gloss in “Crème Brulee”OFRA Universal Eyebrow Pencil and Realtree for Her, which is the single most horrifying fragrance that I have ever tried. I accidentally got some on my hand and I couldn’t get the smell off after washing my hands with AntiBacterial Soap three times. It smells exactly how you would imagine a woman dressed in head-to-toe pink camouflage would smell – like a deer in heat. BURN IT WITH FIRE.

The most exciting thing in my bubble mailer, was my Ipsy points reward – NYX “Bronze Smoky Look Kit”. It’s just a little compact with 9 eye shadows and 2 lip glosses, but I love bronzes and browns right now. Retail price is $12, so not bad for free!
