Channon?
Whoa there Julep, you can’t be running out of polish names yet, can you?
They must be scraping the bottom of the barrel, because when I googled “Channon”, all I got was a porn star named Channon Rose. Never heard of her before, but that lucky girl has her own polish now.
Julep “Channon” is a water lily white matte shimmer. Sometimes water lilies have a hint of pink, so I guess that’s what they mean. I just did two coats over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat. Julep’s matte formula is great – not streaky and very quick drying. It’s very similar to Sinful Colors’ formula, maybe even a teensy bit better.
If Julep is indeed plumbing the depths of porn star names, I am looking forward to seeing Julep Chasey, Traci & Tera. Oooohhh, I already have Julep “Jenna”!

May Julep Maven Box – Sun Crush
Oooohhh, matte shimmers!
That’s right, the May Collection – “Sun Crush” – is completely matte shimmers…and I could only pick two, because I had to finally get my hands on No Excuses Invisible Sunscreen Gel. I was supposed to get it in my August 2016 box, but there was an issue with the formula…but it’s available now – and just in time for my summer fun.
For polishes, I chose It Girl “Channon” – water lily white matte shimmer – and Classic with a Twist “Marina” – royal raspberry matte shimmer. I wanted them all and I might just switch them into future boxes.
The candy is back…and it was a tiny pouch of Sixlets. Boo.

Who the Fuck Steals Monkeys?
Ever since I put on Julep “Suzanne”, I’ve had that song stuck in my head. What song? “Suzanne” by Weezer, of course. One of their best songs, but a lesser known song originating from the Mallrats soundtrack.
“Suzanne” is another gem from the Julep Mystery Boxes last summer. Described as scarlet with gold microshimmer, it was originally a part of the November 2015 Collection. It’s a warm red and you cannot really see the gold shimmer in the picture, but it’s there.
I started with Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat, two perfect smooth coats and then finished with “HK Girl”.
(Suzanne was the name of the monkey in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.)

Pastel Rainbow Dotticure
I was “inspired” by my friend Carrie to totally rip off the pastel rainbow dotticure she shared on Instagram a few weeks ago. Imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery, so….
I started off with Sinful Colors Base Coat and two coats of Sinful Colors “You Just Wait”. I forgot that even though it looks pink in the bottle, it’s green/gold on my nails. Eh…
Finding a “pastel” red was the hardest. I finally decided on Julep “Nan”. I followed with Julep “Mariska”, Sinful Colors “Otaku Anime”, Julep “Tatum”, Julep “Jeanne” and Julep “Paulette”. If I had the right yellow, I could’ve done ALL Julep.
I finished off with “HK Girl”. I’m really liking it! I need to do more dotticures.

Robin Eggs
How’s this for an Easter Manicure? Robin eggs!
I started with Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and then two coats of Julep “Cassidy” (Bondi blue creme). The blue wasn’t quite right – it’s not quite dusty enough…but it’s close. For the speckles, I used Funky Fingers “Varsity Blue”. Maybe robin eggs don’t have such shiny speckles, so instead of a shiny top coat, I used Zoya Velvet Matte Top Coat to mute some of that shine and sparkles.
Even though my nails wouldn’t exactly blend into Mama Robin’s nest, I’m quite happy with how they turned out.

Ming Says Spring!
Somehow, Julep “Ming” made it into my Julep box this month. Described by Julep as as sheer wild orchid jelly, it is the “Spring-iest” polish ever. A true jelly, it is indeed very, very, very sheer.
This is two coats over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat. I was tempted to do one more, but I stopped. I was afraid it would get too thick around the edges. I topped with “HK Girl”…and it still got a bit thick around the edges.
“Ming” would be great in a glitter jelly sandwich…I got ideas.

That Would Be Enough
I can’t resist a Hamilton reference to go with Julep “Eliza”.
My sole polish pick from this month’s box, “Eliza” is described as infinite ocean holographic. I don’t see much of that infinite ocean off the Gulf of Mexico, but I got a taste of it in Mexico last summer. It really does seem like glitters on forever.
This is two coats over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and under “HK Girl”. It’s an extremely smooth applying polish. It wears forever, too. I’m on day four and it should last a few more days.
It’s polishes like this that make me think…how lucky we are to be alive right now.
That was bad – I apologize.

April Julep Maven Box – Relax & Remix
So, I wasn’t feeling all of the Spring-like polishes available in this month’s “Relax & Remix” Collection. So I picked just one polish – Julep Bombshell “Eliza”, infinite ocean holographic. No idea why Julep It Girl “Ming” – wild orchid jelly – is in my box. Thanks, I guess?
I decided to enlarge my makeup collection. I picked a new shade of Feels Like Velvet Full Coverage Eye Shadow Duo – “cinnamon & spice”. I LOVE these colors on me. They’re very warm and light up my face. I’m also impressed with the creamy formula – they stayed put all day without primer. I also picked a matching lippie – It’s Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in “Say Hello”, rich marsala matte. It’s Whipped doesn’t last through meal, well…not tablitas and fajitas, anyway. I’m not sure ANY lippie would last through the juicy smoked ribs I ate yesterday.

She’s a Brick…House
My nails match my house!
I never thought I’d live in a plain red brick house, but here I am…living in a plain red brick house. That’s okay, because now my nails match my house.
Julep “Rosemary” – modern brick creme – is nearly a perfect match for these bricks. She’s from this month’s box. I’m digging a more “normal” manicure than I’ve had the past several weeks. I feel almost…grown-up.
This is two coats of “Rosemary” over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and under “HK Girl”. I got a bizarre chip on my index finger – I think from digging in my purse for my keys – so I’ll likely be changing polishes tomorrow.
Coincidentally, one of my favorite teachers from high school was named Rosemary. She taught history and gave us a bizarre lesson on how The Wizard of Oz was an allegory for the Gold Standard in the US. Why do I waste valuable brain space on that nugget of information???

Lara!!!
I’ve been waiting over three and a half years and it’s finally here…Julep “Lara”!
Honestly, this isn’t the color I would pick to represent me (shell pink with shimmer), but it’s also possible that I don’t know myself very well. Maybe I really AM shell pink with gold shimmer? What if I’m NOT flamingo fuchsia?
This is two coats over Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and under “HK Girl”. no fuss, no muss.
I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that this is a glossy dupe for the matte Sinful Colors “Angelik”.
I also have Zoya “Lara” – now I just need to track down a bottle of Deborah Lippman “Lara’s Theme” and I’ll have them all…
