Jah-Kwell-In
I have a friend named “Jacqueline” and sometimes she gets called “Jah-Kwell-In”. Hooked on Phonics, for real.
When I was picking my Julep Box for this month, I picked Julep “Jacqueline” first. Julep describes it as bright grenadine shimmer. I think my eyes must be off, because I thought it was orange. It’s not so much orange, but definitely an orange-leaning red, with a pink undertone. I wasn’t sure I would like it, but once the color was on me – I loved it. Of course, I would have picked it it anyway, because…Jah-Kwell-In.
This is two coats with Orly Bonder and Dream Polish Gem Glam. The polish didn’t mesh well with the Gem Glam – it seemed to dry quickly, but SURPRISE! I smooshed the edges opening a goddamn envelope. I’m going to try it again in a few weeks with a different base and top coat.
JAH-KWELL-IN! I think I need to spend some time with Jah-Kwell-In.

Teal Toes
In preparation for going to Schlitterbahn on Friday, I searched through all my polish to find the perfect teal to match my new swimsuit. I found it in Julep “Marion”.
I was so excited when I painted my toes last night – it was going to look great with my pin-up style swimsuit…until reality hit when I was at Target today. Wearing a one-piece to the neighborhood pool is fine, but a colossal pain in the ass when you’re in your suit all day at a water park. So I bought a new bottom (black) and two tops (both leopard print). I’m sure my teal toes will look just fine with leopard print.
Apparently, “teal toes” is a thing. It’s intended to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. Hmmm. Well, I can get behind anything that’s not that awful Komen pink.

Rose Jelly
I had to try a Julep Jelly!
This is two coats of Julep “Tiffany” sandwiched between Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and Dream Polish Gem Glam Top Coat. I was expecting it to be sheerer, but it was thicker than I expected. It reminds me of melted candle wax. But it’s still a jelly, because I can see my nail line. Julep’s website describes it as Pink radish jelly – I guess radish is pretty accurate.
“Tiffany” is sooooo much like Jenna Hip “Rose Tart” – both match my Knockout Roses, although “Tiffany” is just a smidge darker.

June Julep Maven Box – The Deep End Collection
In addition to my Delushies, I also received my June Maven Box yesterday. When I told my husband, “I got 5 new polishes today!” – I got a “Really?” AND a shaking of the head with a side order of rolling eyes.
I had to go to Julep’s site to recall what this month’s collection is called – it doesn’t say it ANYWHERE on the insert card that came in my box. In case you were wondering – it’s “The Deep End Collection.” It’s full of bright summery colors and a new formula for Luxe Up Your Lips – less sheer and more coverage! I picked the darkest – “Sangria”. For polishes, I picked Classic with a Twist “Jacqueline” (reminds me of my buddy Jah-quell-in) and Bombshell “Tiffany” . I added on Classic with a Twist “Fireworks” – who couldn’t use more red, white and blue glitter for the 4th?
There were also 2 Chupa Chups – the absolute best suckers ever made! I am definitely NOT sharing these…

Salmon Clamdiggers
So Old Navy was having a ridiculous Memorial Day sale – the whole store was on sale and I ended up going twice, knocking out a little of next year’s School Shopping…although mostly shopping for myself. I’d been coveting The Pixie Ankle Pants for while, although on my 6’1 frame, they’re more like what my mother would have called “Clamdiggers” on me.
I’d tried them on several times, but never saw the right color and fit…until now. I came across a pair with a salmon pattern and fell in love. I don’t know why – I’ve never particularly cared for the color, but they were just so…funky. I tried them on and they were like magic pants. I grabbed a salmon colored cardigan (grandma sweater) and white tank top to match…and I saw a Real Housewife staring back at me. I finally have something to wear while skipping out of PTA meetings to go smoke behind the elementary school! Wouldn’t you know, my husband said they’re HIDEOUS.
Of course, I had the perfect polishes to match – Julep “Nan” for my toes and Jenna Hipp “Crème de Cantaloupe”.
I went back to Orly Bonder for the base coat. “Crème the Cantaloupe” was streaky as hell on the first coat and started to worry, but the second coat smoothed out perfectly. My “HK Girl” is getting low and hard to get out of the bottle, but I got it on there – only a few uses left.
That color though…it is NOT for my skin tone. It’s like an electric cantaloupe!

May Julep Maven Box – Set Sail
I received this month’s Julep box while I was at Frightmare, so either the 1st or 2nd – nice job USPS.
This month’s collection is called “Set Sail” and i just wasn’t feeling any of the polish colors. They were all cremes in nautical colors – white, red, navy blue – blah. Instead, I picked two of their new “Feels Like Velvet” eye shadow duos: “Moonlight & Starlight” (Matte lilac grey & white sand shimmer) and “Luck & Magic” (Metallic boysenberry & taupe with gold shimmer). Ooooh…and salt water taffy!
I’m hoping for some good polish colors next month.

Frightmare & The Black Lodge Redux
Didn’t I tell you that I was going to redo my Black Lodge nails for Texas Frightmare Weekend?
They turned out even better than the first time! Again, I used Sinful Colors Base Coat with Sinful Colors “No Text Red” on my thumb and pinky. I added Julep “Kirby” for a broken glass effect on my pinky. I used Jamberry “Black and White Chevrons” on my index finger and I cut letters out of “Newsprint on Neutral” for my ring finger. I then used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure “Sweet Talker” for a nude look. I used Hare Polish “The Red Room” on my middle fingers, but it chipped IMMEDIATELY, even with the “HK Girl”. It almost ruined my weekend.
Not to brag, but Jennifer Lynch LOVED my nails!
This year’s Frightmare was the best ever – I got to meet Audrey Horne herself, Sherilyn Fenn. She is adorable!
I also got to meet Jennifer Lynch, not only the daughter of David Lynch, but she also wrote The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. I had bought my third copy of the book for her to sign on Amazon – having lent out my previous copies, which of course, disappeared. (You know who you are.) I won’t be lending out this copy, no sirree!
I was blown a kiss by the Warlock himself, Julian Sands and told Rachel True how much I love Nowhere. All in all, a great weekend.
Of course, we had to make a stop at Ulta. They must be planning a major reset, because all of their polish was $2 and all of their lip stuff was $4. I picked up 3 lip glosses – “Toast”, “Mischief” and “Siren”. The polish was really picked over, so I just got “Material Girl” – because of the name, DUH.
I looked for a rollerball of Tory Burch, but they don’t carry it – I guess I need to hit Sephora.
Except for mistakenly asking the waiter at Outback for an Awesome Blossom instead of a Bloomin’ Onion, it was a fun and mostly stress-free trip!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Did you know that Deep Woods Off! melts nail polish? I didn’t…until I found out the hard way yesterday, while wiping down my daughter and her BFF. Julep “Coretta” became all sticky and melty and I had to take it off…
This is Julep “Cassidy” from this month’s Paradise Collection. It’s almost exactly Tiffany Blue – I just need a white satin bow.
Again, I used Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and guess what? NO BUBBLES! I’m liking this base coat…I used “HK Girl” for the top coat – super smooth and shiny…I wonder how it would look with some silver glitter?

Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend
Actually, I don’t think Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. AA batteries are a girl’s best friend, but that’s a story for another time.
This is Julep “Coretta” – Diamond for April. I’ve worn it before, but I wanted to try it again in the right month. I took the picture in full sun this time – isn’t it amazing?
I used Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat (a gimme from my BFF, since she doesn’t do her own nails) and then two coats of “Coretta”. No top coat, so I could feel the fine texture. I am hoping that Julep’s glitter polishes stick to this base coat better than what I’ve been getting with other base coats. It’s been about a day and no chips so far…

Smurfy
Looks like I fibbed a little bit when I said “no more purple”.
Julep “Danielle”, from this month’s Paradise Collection – is a cerulean wave duochrome – in layman’s terms that means smurf blue with a purple flash. I took like a dozen pictures and this is the best I could do to show the purple.
I am so excited – “Danielle” is a Julep polish that doesn’t bubble! Absolutely NO bubbles on any of my nails. Maybe it’s the comb I used – Orly Bonder and “HK Girl”? Or maybe they finally just perfected their formula?
