Periwinkle Puke
I was going for an Easter egg type vibe, but I ended up with periwinkle puke.
I was chatting with Rachel the other day and she was all excited about her new periwinkle polish – so I thought I would try my periwinkle polish – Nails Inc. “Princes Palace”. I used two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat. It’s a decent formula – streaky on the first coat, but smooth with two. So far, so good.
But then I decided to spruce it up with Sinful Colors “Baila Baila”. Still, not too bad…until I decided to top it with Zoya Matte Velvet Top Coat. That didn’t go so well – I guess the periwinkle was too thick, because a few of the edges wouldn’t dry underneath. Zoya Matte usually dries within minutes – but not this time. I dinged it a few times before bed, but I was able to mash it flat. I was horrified to wake up the next morning with imprints of my sheets on the top of my nails….yup, periwinkle puke.
I struggled with posting this mishap – but I figured I must share the fails as well as the wins.

Use the Force

So…”the force” is black, white, gold and pink? I never knew…
Funky Fingers “Use the Force” is anyway – black, white, gold and light pink bar glitter. I decided to use it over Nails Inc. “Bruton Street” (Bruton Street is the birthplace of Queen Elizabeth – yup, I googled it). “Bruton Street” is a dusty rose similar to “Lovecraft”, but leaning more mauve than pink.
“Bruton Street” went on like a dream over Sinful Colors Base Coat. It was nearly full coverage in one coat – no streaks. I did two coats just to be sure. Then – of course – “HK Girl”.
My husband said my nails look weird – like plastic. Now THAT’s the sign of a good manicure – so perfect they look fake!

January Beauty Box 5 – Ev’rythang Done
So Beauty Box 5 has gone full ghetto with the theme for January – “Ev’rythang Done”. Well, okay then…
So, I’m going to get ev’rythang done with Bodipure Keratin Gloves (Intriguing); Nails, Inc. Nail Polish in “Bruton Mews” (a deep, dark green – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a polish this color); Scratch Customer Accent Nail Wraps (These are supposed to work over polish); Novex Bamboo Sprout Deep Conditioning Treatment (I’m skeptical of this one – the foilpack says “bamboo sprouds”); Not Your Mother’s Haircare Plump for Joy Thickening Hair Lifter (Weird); and Salon Grafix Freezing Hair Spray.
After I keratin my hands, I’m going to paint my nails green and put gold stickers on them…then put bean sprouds in my hair…and then time for lifting and freezing. Then ev’rythang will be done.

Beauty Box 5 – Bon Voyage
Oh Beauty Box 5, I was considering canceling you, but you’ve won me over this month and received a stay of execution with this month’s box, themed “Bon Voyage”.
In my “Bon Voyage” box: Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (FINALLY, a prestige product – I wasn’t wowed by this mascara when I first got it, but I find myself reaching for it when I’m going out on the town); Herbal Essences Body Wash in “Honey Smell Good” (and it does); LOL Rotational Eye Shadow in “Splash That Cash” (it should be called “Irritable Bowel Syndrome”, because I’ve seen these exact shades of brown and green in the toilet this past week); Nails Inc. Nail Polish in “Bruton Street” (another fancy brand – $9.50 at Ulta or Sephora); and Simple Skincare Micellular Cleansing Water (a skimpy sample – just a moistened pad – but not a dealbreaker). There was also a $20 off $49.95 coupon for GorgeHair.com, but no way I’m spending that much money on a brand I’ve never heard of.
Keep the good boxes coming, Beauty Box 5!
