Nessa-ist Rose

Does anyone else feel really WEIRD holding the tiny OPI mini bottles? Just me?

Instead of holding the tiny mini bottle, I thought I’d mix it up by holding something else OZ related. This Wicked Witch of the East doll AKA Nessarose was from a series of Happy Meal toys. Remember when the Happy Meal toys were actually GOOD? I mean…fucking Madame Alexander! They DID recently bring back the McNugget Buddies…but other than that, kids today are getting the shaft.

OPI “Nessa-ist Rose” is just a plain red nail polish. I don’t have any OPI reds to compare it to, but it’s fairly close to Zoya “Sooki”. It’s got a deepness to it that I like, like a candied apple.

This is two coats of “Ness-ist Rose” over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Melt Down” and under Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Champagne Toast“.

Witch O’Clock

What time is it?

For the last 30 some-odd years, my answer has always been the same – “4:30 – it’s not late, it’s early, EARRR-LAYYYY” – and if you get that deep cut from The Spin Doctors, congratulations…you now need antacids if you eat a single slice of pizza.

…but NOW, maybe I’ll change my answer to “Witch O’Clock”, WHICH is the name of the first polish in the OPI x Wicked Nail Lacquer 12 Piece Mini Pack. OPI “Witch O’Clock” is a dark olive green and is very similar to Deborah Lippman “Defying Gravity”.

Wicked Ulta Haul

As soon as Ulta dropped all of the Wicked Movie Collab products…I knew I was in trouble. I tried – TRIED – to be conservative, but I don’t know if I did a very good job, especially since it was Diamond Love List Monday…

Right off the bat, I knew I had to get the OPI x Wicked Nail Lacquer 12 Piece Mini Pack ($49.99). I hate paying full price for nail polish, but I just couldn’t risk it selling out before I got it. The set has 12 mini polishes, 6 for Elphaba and 6 for Galinda. I am really looking forward to trying them all out. Ariana Grande’s r.e.m. beauty released a bunch of matched sets and lipsticks, but I was drawn to the r.e.m. beauty x Wicked Ozdust Eyeshadow Palette ($55). I am impressed by how creamy and blendable the shadows are. The glitters really pop! I even got a gift with purchase – a full size Midnight Shadows Liquid Eyeshadow. I wasn’t paying attention and thought it was a lipstick – which actually looked amazing after I wiped most of it off and applied lip stain on top of it. It made my lips look like stained glass – new favorite lip look! I’m sure I’ll be picking up more Wicked Collab stuff, but this is it for now.

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten hyped up about Urban Decay, but the new Urban Decay Cosmetics Moondust Space Cowboy Glitter Eyeshadow Palette – Limited Edition ($49) caught my eye. Yes, I know it’s basically just a few shadows pulled from Naked palettes in a fancy package – SHUT UP. I have only gotten to use it once, but I ended up with nice results, so no regrets. Oh, and I also got a Platinum and Diamond Free 5 Piece Gift with $35 makeup purchase, which came with an clear vinyl crossbody bag (perfect for stadiums with a clear bag rule); Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray (ugh, I have so much of this); a card sample of Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in “Space Cowboy”; Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Zero”; and Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in “Original”.

I added a few more random items to my bag: an EcoTools Exfoliating EcoPouf Loofah ($2.99); L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder in “C1 Alabaster” ($6.49, on sale from $12.99 – Ulta’s site told me which shade to use based on the shade I wear in Infallible, but it’s a bit light on me); and Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Facial Toner in “Rose Petal” ($10.95).

All this got me a Free Platinum & Diamond Exclusive 28 Piece Gift with with $150 purchase – woo hoo! First off, this gift came with a gorgeous chocolate velvet cosmetic bag. Inside the bag: COSRX Master Patch Intensive; Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour HydraPlay Skin Perfecting Daily Moisturizer; Morphe Mini Continuous Setting Mist; Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift Mascara; Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 48 Perfume Mist (Awww, I already have one of these); Chloe Intense; Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil; Frank Body Glycolic Body Scrub; bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Blonzer (uh whut? It’s blush and bronzer, oh); Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme + Night Power Bounce Creme; e.l.f. Power Grip Primer; Benefit The POREfessional Super Setter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray (ugh, more???); Wella Ultimate Repair Miracle Hair Rescue (again, more???); Clarins Total Eye Lift; Polite Society Greatest Lashes of All Time Mascara (braggy a bit?); Dime TBT Cream (what even is this?); Eau Thermale Avene Cicalfate Intensive Skin Restorative Serum; megababe Le Tush Clarifying Butt Mask (literally laughed out loud); tarte tartelette XL tubing Mascara; Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-eyes Mascara; Florence by Mills Floating Under the Eyes Patches; CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser; OUAI Leave in Conditioner; Buxom Plump Shot Collagen Infused Lip Serum; e.l.f. Skin Holy Hydration Eye Cream; pixi Glow Tonic; NOYZ Lost + Found; and Vichy Mineral 89 Fortifying and Plumping Daily Booster. Damn, my fingers are TIRED.

I should feel worse about randomly spending $150+ without a good coupon or sale…but I don’t, because I used the last $30 of Ulta points I had saved up.

Oz

Exactly NO ONE is shocked that I would grab the Wizard of Oz themed polish first.

MJ Lacquers “Oz” is from November’s Polish Pickup and the first polish I’ve tried by MJ Lacquers. It’s a dense, DENSE glitter and I love it. More glitters should be impossibly dense like this.

This is two coats of “Oz” over Vibrant Scents Double Bond Base Coat in “Island Petals” and topped with Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber and Vibrant Scents Top Coat in “Island Petals”.

Polish Pickup November 2023 – Fairytales & Folklore

It was so hard not to buy 20 polishes this month – I LOVE the Fairytales & Folklore theme. Most were based on stories and legends, but there were quite a few Taylor Swift (Folklore) polishes. I thought I got a variety of polishes…turns out that the three I picked are primarily GREEN.

MJ Lacquers “Oz” ($12.75) is a black crelly, loaded with every color of glitter, iridescent flakies and shimmer. The green flakies are the most prominent aspect in the polish. Of course, it’s inspired by The Wizard of Oz.

Adored Colors “Baba Yaga” ($12.50) is a green shimmer, filled with earthy glitter. It’s inspired by the witch of Slavic folklore.

Psyche Minerals “Shapeshifting in the Moor” ($13) is a glittery multichrome polish that shifts all colors of the rainbow. It’s inspired by the púca – a celtic goblin.

I couldn’t pass up another bottle of Baroness X Acetone Antidote in “Chocolate Croissant” ($8). As soon as I opened it, I wanted to eat it. I didn’t.

Revolution x Wizard of Oz

When a brand releases a Wizard of Oz collaboration, I listen…and it’s a lot easier when it’s one of my favorite brands, like Revolution. (I had no problem skipping Kylie Jenner’s Wizard of Oz Collaboration last year.)

I was fortunate to hit a 30% off sale and got both the Revolution x Wizard of Oz Emerald City Set ($33.60, down from $48) and the Revolution x Wizard of Oz Yellow Brick Road Set ($14, down from $20).

The Revolution x Wizard of Oz Emerald City Set includes an 18-pan Ruby Slipper Eye Shadow Palette, a gold eyeliner, two lip glosses (plum & pink), a lovely blush that is VERY similar to my favorite blush (NARS “Orgasm”), a Toto Blending Sponge, a silver Tin Man Highlighter, and two hair ties with BLUE GINGHAM bows. I have been using the the blush and glosses (over WONDERSKIN stains) continuously.

The Revolution x Wizard of Oz Yellow Brick Road Set includes a 15-pan Eye Shadow Palette, 2 Eye Shadow Brushes, and a gold shimmering lip gloss. I’ve been using this palette more than the Ruby Slipper one, because it’s nudes and golds.

There was also another little something in the order, but it’s an Xmas gift, so I’ll keep it to myself.

I also got a free gift – that I totally did not find in the box – until I reviewed my receipt to write this post. (I actually dug had to dig through my pile of cardboard shipping boxes to find it – embarrassing.) I got a free palette worth $6 – Makeup Reloaded Shadow Palette – Affection. I haven’t tried it yet…and I am a little scared because it’s a “pressed pigment” palette, NOT eye shadow. It’s got stuff in it that shouldn’t be used around the eyes…at least not in the US. I guess I’ll try it on my eyes the next time I leave the country? KIDDING!

The Wiz

What do you wear when you’re going to see The Wiz? Some wicked nail polish, duh.

The Wiz was being performed at TUTS, and I was excited to take Lily to her first real musical. I had taken Logan to see Hamilton there earlier this year, so I wanted Lily to see one, too. As soon as I started seeing ads, I knew she would love it…and she did. She was singing and dancing in her seat!

I don’t need much of an excuse to pull out the Deborah Lippmann Wicked Nail Polish. After Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat, I did two coats of my favorite green – “Defying Gravity”. I used the glittery “One Short Day” to add sparkle to the tips, topping with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Lily used my polish, too. She just used “Defying Gravity” as the base and used a dotter to write “The Wiz” on her nails in red. She is so creative with her nails – I wonder where she gets it from?

Feeling Witchy

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

I don’t know why, but I’ve been having the urge to dig into my polish stash lately. I don’t know what look I was going for, I just wanted to play. No…I did kind of have an idea. I wanted something in a matte jade green…

Somehow I absolutely mis-remembered what the finish was like on the SpaRitual Luminaries – why did I remember them as matte? I dunno…I guess I could have used my matte top coat, but then I was sleepy and just wanted to go to bed.

I started with Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat, and then two coats of Deborah Lippmann “Defying Gravity”. I alternated Luminaries, starting with “Citrine Luminary” on my thumb and “Opaline Luminary” on my index finger. I didn’t even use a top coat, because I kept waiting for the polishes to get more matte.

I have to say though, “Defying Gravity” might just be my favorite green polish. It’s vibrant, but muted. I don’t feel like a goddamn leprechaun when I wear it. Maybe because it’s so similar to my eye color.

Dressing Up

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

I don’t really have many opportunities to “dress up”, unless you count my weekly trip to the grocery store. I attended a high school graduation over the weekend though, and wore an actual dress! Of course, my nails had to match.

The main color of the dress was a wine-like shade, but I decided to emphasize the olive green accent. After Sinful Colors Base Coat, I painted two coats of Deborah Lippmann “Defying Gravity”, from the Wicked Trio. I absolutely love this green. I used Sally Hansen “Rogue Red” in varying patterns for an accent. The triangular shards are reminiscent of the triangles on the dress – perfect! I finished off with “HK Girl”.

I absolutely adored this combination…this scorching summer demands MORE glitter.

Shamrock Shake

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Is there anything MORE St.  Patrick’s Day than a Shamrock Shake? I mean, besides Guiness. Or green beer. Or an Irish Car Bomb. Or just getting drunk, in general. Revised…is there anything that I can drink with my CHILDREN that’s more St. Patrick’s Day than a Shamrock Shake? No?

I decided I wanted to give my fingernails a Shamrock Shake. I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and two streaky coats of Makeup Revolution “Cool Days”. Even with two coats, this polish is so streaky that it’s unwearable without something else on top of it. Seriously BAD streaking. Good thing I already had glitter on my mind when I started.

I couldn’t decide on one green glitter, so I just went ahead and used all of them. Starting with my thumb, I used a single coat on each finger: Deborah Lippmann “One Short Day” (I forgot how opaque it is), Sinful Colors “Feeling Lucky?”, Nanacoco “Emerald”, Sinful Colors “Shamrockin'” and Sinful Colors “Green Ocean”. My personal favorite is “Green Ocean”, but Lily likes “Shamrockin'” the best. I topped them with “HK Girl”.

I know, I know – three fingernail posts in a row. I’ll get to the other stuff next…I promise.
