Vampire’s Blood
Penelope Luz “Vampire’s Blood” is the final polish I got from September’s PPUWEEN. It’s one of the most amazing magnetic polishes that I’ve tried…
Not only does “Vampire’s Blood” magnetize well, it also changes colors with a top coat. You’ll notice that my pinky is more of a pinkish mauve – that’s the polish without a top coat. Once I added a top coat to the rest of the nails, they turned more of a blood red shade. I used a round rare earth magnet to give a velvet french manicure effect.
This is two coats of “Vampire’s Blood”, magnetized with a rare earth magnet, over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Tropical Oasis” and under Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Froot Loop“.

Secret Allure
The magnet makes all the difference!
Penelope Luz “Secret Allure” is from January’s Masquerade Polish Pickup. The colors are fairly similar to “Nichibotsu”, but the effect is totally different. Instead of the weak ass butterfly wand, I used one of my husband’s rare earth magnets. It’s small and round, slightly smaller than a 50 cent piece. I didn’t have to go through all the drama of holding it over my nails – instead, I just laid half of my fingertip over the edge of the magnet as I painted. The effect is a mix of velvet effect and a bar magnet, giving the impression of a french manicure. I could NOT stop looking at my nails!
So what do you think of my new lightbox? My husband had gotten it for me about six months ago, but I kept forgetting to set it up. I was having a hard time capturing the magnetic polishes in sunlight and I’m very happy with the pictures using the lightbox. I’m still using my phone, as opposed to my SLR – I admit to being a lazy bum. I think I’ll switch to using it for all my nail pics.

Polish Pickup January 2025 – Masquerade
In anticipation of Mardi Gras (which is rather late this year – March!!!), January’s Polish Pickup theme is Masquerade.
DRK Nails “Nothing to Hide” ($13.40) is inspired by a Masquerade – Mardi Gras colors!
Emily de Molly “Miss Runway” ($13) is inspired by a dress. It’s magnetic!
Cuticula “Dance with Me” ($13) is also inspired by a Masquerade…but different colors.
Penelope Luz “Secret Allure” ($13.50) is inspired by a mask…for a Masquerade Ball. It’s also magnetic.
With all these magnetic polishes, I purchased a Ring Magnet ($6).
I cannot wait to Karma Chameleon all over the place!

Hummingbird
I love hummingbirds – they’re my second favorite bird, after the noble flamingo.
Penelope Luz “Hummingbird” is from February’s Polish Pickup. The only kind I see around here are ruby throats, which are green – but I’m sure there are beautiful blue hummingbirds in Mexico and Central America.
This is two coats of “Hummingbird” over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Melt Down” and under Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Raspberry Pop”.

Polish Pickup February 2024 – Wild Animals
I *may* have went HAM on Polish Pickup. Again.
February’s theme was “Wild Animals” and I was excited to pick out some of my favorite animals. I was also excited to try some new nail polish brands.
Cadillacquer “Northern Cardinal” ($14) is inspired by the ubiquitous (at least in Texas) Northern Cardinal.
Cat Tail Nails “Little King Trash Mouth” ($12) is inspired by a raccoon that lives behind Bob’s Burgers. Oh, and it’s a solar polish.
Penelope Luz “Hummingbird” ($13) is self-explanatory. I had to have it.
Alchemy Lacquers “Karma Chameleon” ($12.50) is inspired by a chameleon.
Which one shall I try first???
