Defying Gravity
OPI x Wicked “Defying Gravity” is VERY different than Deborah Lippman “Defying Gravity”. Instead of Elphaba’s skintone (which we saw in “Witch O’Clock”), we get a representation of the night sky. It’s a beautiful midnight blue with silver shimmer.
This is two coats of “Defying Gravity” over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Melt Down” and under Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Zombie Juice“.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the second bottle of “Zombie Juice” is not quick dry either. It stayed tacky for at least 30 minutes…ugh. I’ll try it out a few more times to be sure, just in case it’s a fluke interaction with OPI. I better try out “Blackberry Passionfruit” and make sure it’s not fucked up, too.

Nessa-ist Rose
Does anyone else feel really WEIRD holding the tiny OPI mini bottles? Just me?
Instead of holding the tiny mini bottle, I thought I’d mix it up by holding something else OZ related. This Wicked Witch of the East doll AKA Nessarose was from a series of Happy Meal toys. Remember when the Happy Meal toys were actually GOOD? I mean…fucking Madame Alexander! They DID recently bring back the McNugget Buddies…but other than that, kids today are getting the shaft.
OPI “Nessa-ist Rose” is just a plain red nail polish. I don’t have any OPI reds to compare it to, but it’s fairly close to Zoya “Sooki”. It’s got a deepness to it that I like, like a candied apple.
This is two coats of “Ness-ist Rose” over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Melt Down” and under Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Champagne Toast“.

Witch O’Clock
What time is it?
For the last 30 some-odd years, my answer has always been the same – “4:30 – it’s not late, it’s early, EARRR-LAYYYY” – and if you get that deep cut from The Spin Doctors, congratulations…you now need antacids if you eat a single slice of pizza.
…but NOW, maybe I’ll change my answer to “Witch O’Clock”, WHICH is the name of the first polish in the OPI x Wicked Nail Lacquer 12 Piece Mini Pack. OPI “Witch O’Clock” is a dark olive green and is very similar to Deborah Lippman “Defying Gravity”.

Sage Simulation
OPI Infinite Shine “Sage Simulation” is CLEARLY misnamed. Although sage has a greyish tinge, it is green?
I supposed it’s possible that OPI means ‘sage’ as an adjective – a profoundly wise person – but then I looked at OPI’s website description of “Sage Simulation”. They really DO be thinking this is a sage green nail polish. Is their nail polish name colorblind?
I admit, the polish has a shimmery grey finish that doesn’t come through my phone camera…but this is simply NOT green. It was FREE though, so whatever.
This is two coats of “Sage Simulation” over Vibrant Scents Base Coat in “Island Petals” and under Vibrant Scents Top Coat in “Island Petals”.

National Nail Polish Day 2023
Last June, I wanted the Scünci Pride Claw Clips ($7.99), but I didn’t order them in time and they were sold out. Not this year! One for me and one for daughter. The Great Hair Event was still going on when I placed the order, so I ordered Arctic Fox “Poison” for 50% off ($9.24 instead of $18.49). I intended it for my daughter, and even ordered a Lime Crime Bushy Brow Pencil in “Valentine” ($15)…but it was missing from my order! Then she told me that she has to die her hair back brown for Band…so I guess I’ll use it in my hair? I don’t need the brow pencil, so I just accepted a refund from customer care.
Oh, and I have been liking moisturizing primers lately, so I decided to try Tula Filter Primer Blurring & Moisturizing Primer ($38). I really like it so far – it is very smoothing and as far as I can tell, I am NOT breaking out. It’s a similar texture to Benefit Primers, except it doesn’t roll up into booger particles on your fingers.
Since I ordered this little haul on National Nail Polish Day, I received one of two different samplers with my $50 purchase. Inside the sampler: Flowery Duraboard Nail File 2 pack; Dashing Diva Glow Gel Nail Strips in “Ballet Blooms Mini”; Londontown KUR Perfecting Nail Veil “Shade 4” (‘Nail Veil’ – that’s a new one); Sally Hansen Insta-Dri “Petal Pusher”; Essie “Mrs. Always Right” (it me!); OPI Infinite Shine “Sage Simulation”; and China Glaze “Tropic Like It’s Hot”.
Just $591 to Diamond in 2024.

Was It All Just a Dream?
…no really, that’s the name of the polish.
This is OPI “Was It All Just a Dream?”, from their 2018 Grease Collection. I am OBSESSED with the color aqua right now – my living room, my blankets, even my favorite cup…all aqua. This aqua crème polish is a perfect match!
Even though the polish is kind of old and separating in the bottle, it went on my nails just fine. The first coat was streaky, but a second coat fixed it right up. This is two coats of “Was It All Just a Dream?” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Hex Boyfriend
Sometimes you buy a nail polish and it’s like…OOF, whyyyyyy?
China Glaze “Hex Boyfriend” called out to me from the clearance rack at Ulta, as I was standing in line to pay for my daughter’s haircut. $1.88 is a pretty low risk investment, but this polish wasn’t even worth that. Even though it is only from the Halloween 2020 Collection, it’s so thick that it was almost unusable. Adding OPI Thinner didn’t even help! I might have been better off sticking to a single coat, but it was so uneven, that I had to try to smooth it out.
Although not apparent at the time, I was left with peaks and valleys in my nails, like a relief map of the Rocky Mountains. This formula might have made a fantastic crackle polish!
From the way it looked in the bottle, I was expecting a dark, mysterious green…but on the nails, all I got was black. Flat black, like a theatre set. Boring.
This is two coats over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat. No top coat, except for Glisten & Glow Top Coat on my pinkies. Even glossy, it’s boring.
I could’ve gotten better results with a Sharpie.

Thinking of Fiona…
Thinking of Fiona…Shrek’s wife, not the other one!
How old is this polish? 10 years? 12 maybe? It’s OPI “Who the Shrek are You?” from their Shrek Forever After collection. My sister gave it to me when she worked at a fancy salon…the perfect Shrek skin green!
This is two coats of “Who the Shrek are You?” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat. I wanted some sparkle, so I used a combination of Sinful Colors “Call You Later” (green glitter) and Sinful Colors “Flame Game” (iridescent flakies) on my my accent nails. I topped those nails with Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber and then ALL of my nails with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
I could not stop staring at my nails – I LOVE this color.
I want another Shrek movie, dammit!

Perfect Smooth Haul
It wasn’t on sale, but I was almost out of shampoo! I cannot risk a single day with dirty hair, so instead of waiting for a sale, I just ordered refills of my favorite (right now) – NatureLab.Tokyo Perfect Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner ($23 each). My hair is also feeling sad and dry, so I added a SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Protein-Strong Treatment (30% off, so only $2.44).
Nail stuff was also 30% off, so I got some new Flowery buffers and a new Ulta toenail clipper. OPI Nail Lacquer Thinner ($10.40) was FINALLY back in stock, so I bought a bottle to try to revive some of my old crusty polishes.
My order was pretty boring, but even with the $3.50 off $15 coupon, it qualified me for a free 10 piece gift with my $60 order. The star of the gift is another tube of NYX Lip Lingerie XXL in “Turn-On”. THIS is the color I’ve been looking for! It goes on a boring brown, but as it dries, it becomes a near dupe for KVD “Lolita” – I love this shade! Also in the gift: Formula 10.0.6 Draw It All Out Skin-Detoxifying Mask; Covergirl Clean Fresh Brow Gel; Kristin Ess Reconstructive Moisture Mask (yassss, my hair needs help); Kneipp Mineral Bath Salt in “Eucalyptus” (offering to my son); Urban Skin RX Retinol Rapid Repair & Dark Spot Treatment; L’Oreal Infallible Matte-Lock Primer; Peach Slices Snail Rescue; Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Hand Cream; and CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser.
$622 to Diamond in 2023.
