Neither Fast, Nor Furious
So I decided to humor my husband and do the muscle car manicure that he asked me for. He wanted me to do one in green, with matte black racing stripes.
I decided to have little fun with different designs. I started with Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat. On my thumb, I did two coats of Julep “Tatum”, one coat of Sally Hansen Diamond Flash (to make it dry quicker), then two strips of nail striping tape and then a single coat of Zoya “Dovima”. This wasn’t the best idea – it crinkled a little bit. On my other thumb, I did a single coat of “Tatum”, then “Dovima” and it worked a lot better. On my index finger, I just did two coats of “Tatum” and a coat of Diamond Flash. On my middle finger, I did two coats of “Dovima” and a single coat of Sally Hansen Crackle “Sage Smash” – no top coat. On my ring finger, I did two coats of “Dovima”, striping tape and a single coat of “Tatum” – no top coat. On my pinky, I did two coats of “Tatum” and a single coat of Butter London “Dosh” – no top coat.
This is not my husband’s car – but this is about what it should look like when it’s done. Right now, it’s a sickly shade of piss test yellow.
It’s a 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger. He originally said neon green, but I am pushing him towards this more sparkly Kermit green. There’s no way I’ll get another pink car, but Kermit green is the next best thing!

Nail Fail
Never EVER trust a $3 Nail Art Set from Walmart.
I thought I would have a little fun last night, trying out some different nail art from the set I picked up from Walmart a few weeks ago. I was most excited to try the “caviar” – tiny beads that stick to the nail to form a beaded finish.
Let me first explain how HORRIBLE the polish included in the set is – thin and streaky – I couldn’t get good coverage of the light colors with 3+ coats.
I did each nail individually – painted, then chose a dip or decal to go with it.
The polish was so horrible that none of the dips would stick all the way. As you can see from the index finger on my left hand – the caviar wouldn’t even stick. The index finger on my right hand was supposed to be covered in diamond glitter, but it flew off my fingers every time I moved…it flew off my fingers like I was casting fairy spells. When I washed my hands, it all peeled off…leaving a leprous white surface. As a matter of fact – polish began peeling off of several of my fingers – just like that Tinkerbell polish we all used as kids…well that explained a lot.
The one part I liked about the kit was the cute little mustache decals. I will actually use those again – they went on smoothly and stayed put. A coat of Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat helped the hideous streaky polish…a little.
After an hour or so of leaving various glitter trails all over the house, I finally gave up and took it all off. I was defeated…

Big Citrine Taxi
I’m not a big fan of Joni Mitchell…but I sure am a fan of Julep “Joni” – Citrine for November!
The picture (hastily taken earlier today, in the last dying light filtering into my office parking garage) doesn’t do it justice. Along with the gold flecks in the citrine shimmer, there are also flashes of pink. PINK!
I used Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat, but I didn’t use a top coat – I wanted to feel the texture. I was expecting a sandy texture like “Claudia”, but it was smoothly pebbled.
Coincidentally, “Joni” is what I expected NYC “Fashion Queen” to look like.

The Red Room
I’ve got loads of new polish to try out, but I keep coming back to the Twin Peaks Collection by Hare Polish. This is “The Red Room”, a red jelly base with hexes and squares in black and white, plus white flakies and shimmer. The Red Room is one of the most iconic locations in Twin Peaks, with the sweeping red velvet curtains and black & white floors. “Where we’re from, the birds sing a pretty song…”
I used Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat and Top Coat. The polish stuck quite well to the base coat and I don’t have any chips.
It kind of reminds me of this copycat paint job from a few months back, but a lot less work!

Target Beauty Boxes – December 2014
I wasn’t expecting another Target Beauty Box so soon – the last one came around just 2 months ago! This time, there were 3 boxes to choose from. Of course, I got the regular $10 Beauty Box for myself, but this time – they had a $5 Men’s box. My husband has been envious of all my subscription boxes, and now he finally got one! There was also a natural box, but none of the products interested me, so I skipped it.
Inside the Men’s box: Gillette ProGlide FlexBall Razor – we both use Mach3 and this looks similar; Dove Men+Care Dry Deodorant Spray; Old Spice Swagger 2in1 Shampoo and Conditioner – the last deodorant I bought him was Old Spice Swagger, so this will match; Neutrogena Men Invigorating Face Wash – I don’t think I have ever seem my husband wash his face…at least not like girls wash their face; Proraso Shaving Cream; and AXE Peace Shower Gel – yay for travel sizes!
The Women’s Beauty Box is a major score for $10. Inside: Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen – maybe this is THE ONE, the one that will give me the correct cat eye; Revlon HD Lacquer in “Petalite” – I am getting overloaded with Barbie pink lip gloss; Clairol Hair Food Thickening Solution – it’s a full size product, but it sounds like a pain in the ass to use, having to put in your wet hair, comb through and then rinse out; L’Oreal Butterfly Intenza Mascara – I love the original, so this one has to be twice as good; Cover Girl Eye Enhancers in “Daring Nudes” – no matter how many expensive palettes I get, I still use these Cover Girl quads weekly; ChapStick Total Hydration Lip Care in “Sweet Peach”; Laneige Water Sleeping Mask; and Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum.
As always, free shipping on these boxes and 5% off with my Red Card. You can’t beat this deal with a stick!

Tarnished Chameleon
The gold to green shift in Revlon “Chameleon” reminds me of the tacky 70s tarnished brass fixtures in the trailer house I grew up in…to this day, I can’t stand the sight of brass fixtures – but I love it on my nails!
“Chameleon” is sheer, but I got good coverage in 2 coats – no VNL.
To get different looks, I used 2 different top coats that I thought would look dramatically different – but for some odd reason, they look EXACTLY the same. I can barely tell them apart. I used Butter London “Brass Monkey” on my thumb, middle finger and pinky. I used Sinful Colors “Twilight Twinkles” on my index and ring fingers. What the hell? “Brass Monkey” is iridescent CLEAR flakies and “Twilight Twinkles” is opaque gold shards! I used the Revlon Quick Dry Base and Top Coats, which for some reason caused HELLA bubbles with the top coats – especially the Butter London. I guess they don’t play well together…

Those Yellow Coupons…
HEB has me hooked with those yellow coupons…It’s like cold, hard cash!
They’ve got $2 off Revlon again and I thought there wasn’t anything I wanted…I saw “Chameleon” and I knew then that I was wrong. It’s a gold/green duochrome – I couldn’t say no.
The regular polishes are $3.67, so $1.67 after coupon is a steal!
Putting it on now…

Let’s Build A Snowman!
…and NO, I am NOT referring to Frozen. I’m referring to that classic of college cinema – Cannibal! The Musical. In this movie, if you start singing about building a snowman…YOU DIE.
Julep “Kiki” looked so good that I decided to try out Funky Fingers “Olaf” on top of it. (Yes…THAT Olaf.) “Olaf” was yet another frustrating glitter. Those snowflakes were impossible to fish out of the bottle because of the narrow neck. I gave up after one snowflake per finger. The rest of the glitter was wonderful…but those fucking snowflakes…
I did 2 coats of “Olaf”, which I regretted as I was removing it just a few hours ago. I had to pry those fucking snowflakes off with my fingernails…

Cloudy Dream
Julep “Kiki” is like dark, dreamy thunderclouds rolling in. It looks lighter in the bottle, like a bright sun shower – but once it’s on your fingers, it’s thunder and lightning. Julep’s site describes it as oceanic silver shimmer – maybe an oceanic storm? The Bermuda Triangle?
Another one coater, but I used two to be sure – sandwiched between Revlon Quick Dry Base and Top Coat. No bubbles or streaks – it’s like Julep has turned into Zoya all of a sudden!
I wish I had worn gray and black today instead of brown and pink…

A Solid Fart
So I made the mistake of asking my son what he he thought about my fingernail polish…he said it looks like “a solid fart.” After questioning him, he claimed that he had pooped this color before – and I stated that he needs medical care. He laughed at me as he walked away. Even though it sounded like he was saying my nails look like shit, I know that’s not what he meant. He meant that they look like chili beans, so I can kind of see that.
This is Julep “Fazia”. (Is Julep running out of polish names? May I recommend “Lara” or “Lilith”???) It was a true one coater, but I used two just to be sure. It was smooth and didn’t streak – and NO bubbles! I used Revlon Quick Dry Base and Top Coat, which seem to work best with Julep.
I can’t wait hear what my next polish looks like…boogers, barf or some other excrement?
