YESROUGE, 1 & 2
Sephora’s huge VIB event came a little early this year. From August 24th through September 3rd, with the code YESROUGE, Rouge members are eligible for 20% off anything and everything at Sephora. (VIB get 15% and Beauty Insiders get 10% off.) They changed it up a little bit this year. The code can be used multiple times in store, but only once online. Boooooooo!
Since I could only use the code online once, I tried to fill my cart as full as I possible could. Of course, the thing I wanted most (a limited edition Flamingo print Tangle Teezer for $16) was sold out. I consoled myself by buying a bunch of other stuff that I didn’t need.
It’s a HUGE risk to buy fragrances, scent unsmelled. I’ve been jonesing to try more Jo Malone fragrances, so after flip flopping between Peony and Blush Suede and Red Roses, I decided to go a different direction. Sephora also carries Jo Loves, which is the line that Jo Malone launched in 2011 after she sold her original brand. I chose Jo Loves White Roses & Lemon Leaves – A Fragrance Paintbrush Gel ($55, $44 after discount). This scent is like an avalanche of memories. The scent of white roses brings me back to the courtyard outside the church I attended as a child. Besides my grandmother, those roses were literally the only fond memory I have of attending church. This is the scent of a real rose – NOT rose perfume. My only concern is that the gel won’t last very long – it’s hard to gauge how much product is inside the white plastic tube. Fingers crossed…
I am kicking myself for ordering Kat Von D Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick in “Wizard” ($22, $17.60 after discount). The price went down to $15 the day after I placed my order. Fuuuuuuuck.
I also added a few nail polish sets from the Sale bin: Nails Inc. Unicorn Nail Polish Duo ($10.50, $8.40 after discount), which includes “Sparkle Like a Unicorn in Dream Dust” (3D high sparkle) and “Rainbow Wishes” (soft rainbow sheen) AND Deborah Lippman The World is Your Oyster Nail Polish Duo ($10.50, $8.40 after discount), which includes “Chantilly Lace” and “I Put a Spell on You”.
For samples, I actually got the ones I selected when I ordered: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (4 shades to try!); COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30 in Matte Tint; and Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eua Florale (too much musk with the jasmine – gave me a headache when I wore it yesterday.)
Of course, I did manage to forget something I actually needed for my online order – replacement heads for my Clarisonic.
I headed to Sephora yesterday and quickly picked up a two pack of Clarisonic Acne Facial Cleansing Brush Heads ($44, $35.20 after discount). I looked all around the store and nothing caught my eye (I am biding my time on the Urban Decay Born to Run palette and the Anastasia Norvina Palette.) I was in the checkout maze and something caught my eye…I ended up bringing home the Amika Polished Perfection Mini Straightening Brush ($35, $28 after discount). I wasn’t sure what it would do, but I was looking for something that would give the front of my hair some OOMPH when I skip a day washing. I am just a little bit in love with this device. It heats up quickly and does what it says it does. It made my hair really shiny and smooth, too. Both my kids did their hair with it too and I have to say, I am super jealous of how smooth and shiny is made my son’s long, luscious hair. But then Lily wanted to use it on the cat…Um, noooooo.
I even remembered to bring in the 50 point card from this month’s Play! box. Now that I can get $100 for 2,500 points, I am gonna take advantage!
So after all this shopping, I just have $241 left until ROUGE. That’s just $60/per month, for the next four months. Hallelujah!
Rose Gold Haul
Sometimes, it is more satisfying to go shopping in person than placing an online order. Especially when it’s Friday, and work is pissing you off…off to Ulta for stress shopping!
The main product I’d been coveting is the new Ulta Beauty 24k Magic Metallic Peel Off Mask ($14). Of course I picked the rose gold version, instead of the regular gold. I tried it out that night and the mask was really nice – results similar to the GlamGlow GravityMud ($59), at a much cheaper price!
Since Ulta was offering a loaded makeup bag as a gift with $19.50 purchase, I rounded up my purchase with 2 additional single use $3 Ulta Beauty Masks (also on promo for Buy 2, Get 1 free) – “Detoxifying Charcoal” Deep Cleansing Clay Mask and “Strawberries & Champagne” Hydrating Glitter Peel Off Mask. I also added a pack of Exfoliating Cotton Pads and a 6-way Nail Buffer. I even got to use a $3.50 off coupon and still get the freebie.
Of course, I picked the Rose Gold version of the Makeup Bag. Inside this suspiciously familiar bag (which looks to be the same one as a gift with purchase I got in June 2017): On-the-Go Makeup Remover Facial Towelettes; a 6 shade eyeshadow palette; a bronzer/illuminator palette; Limitless Lashes Lengthening + Volumizing Mascara; Gel Eye Liner in “Black Out”; Lipstick in “Stay Fierce”; Brow Tint in “Medium”; Tinted Eye Primer in “Satin Blush”; Matte Metallic Liquid Lipstick (no shade name, but I LOVE the color on me); Matte Makeup Setting Spray; a blush brush, an eye shadow brush and a $5 off $15 Ulta Beauty Coupon. The colors in the shadow and lippies are sunset-y fall colors – I am SO ready for fall colors!
All this…for about $23 – not bad. Just $532.50 to Diamond Status…not likely!
Flights of Fancy
I’ve been eyeing the Limited Edition wet n wild “Flights of Fancy” set on Instagram for a few months. As soon as I noticed the set hit Ulta for $34.99, it was in my cart and I was checking out before I could talk myself out of it.
What did I get for $34.99? Three Color Icon Eyeshadow Quads – “Stop Ruffling My Feathers”, “Flock Party”, and “Hasta La Costa Baby”. The quality is so-so, but I was impressed by the blendability. Three Baked Blushes – “Don’t Flutter Yourself”, “Hummingbird Hype”, and “Dare to Soar”. Warning, these blushes are SUPER pigmented. I looked like a clown after trying the hot pink one, “Dare to Soar”. Four Color Icon Lip Glosses – “Fly Gal“, “Featherless”, “Pout of Paradise”, and “Shut the Pluck Up” (this one is my fave). Two Liquid Eyeliners – “Gilded Wings” and “Winged n’ Wild”. I am not quite sure how to use the Photofocus Primer Water Spray, but I liked that it went on very thin – perfect for sweating in the summer. Last, but not least, PerfectPout Lip Scrub in “Pecker Up” – it’s watermelon flavored!
I am still super-bummed that I was never ever to find the wet n wild Goth-O-Graphic set at Ulta, so I wasn’t about to pass this super cheap set. It’s definitely worth $34.99 – the eyeshadows and lip glosses are usually $4.99 each, so just those would be $35 by themselves.
So what else did I get? Megababes Bust Dust ($16), because even though my new boobs are a lot perkier than they used to be, it IS summer in Texas. Although it keeps things dry for a bit, I feel like I would have to put it on 10 times a day to get full relief. Ugh. I also stumbled upon China Glaze polishes from their “Shades of Paradise” Collection for $1.74 each – score! I picked up “Ma-Holo at Me”, “Don’t Be Sea Salty” and “Kiki in Our Tiki”.
I got to use a $3.50 off coupon AND got an Estee Lauder Beauty Break with my purchase. Inside the Beauty Break: Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Foam, Day Wear Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant 24H-Moisture Cream, and Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in “Insolent Plum” – what a name! I did get a sample pack this time, with Clinique Stay Matte Oil-Free Makeup in 3 shades, and Emporio Armani Stronger With You (both the husband and the son passed on it).
So, between this order and THREE haircuts for the family on Saturday, only $554.49 to Diamond Status…Hmmm…maybe within reach?
2 More Semi-Annual Hauls
Again, a double post with two separate Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale Hauls. Each one ended up being about $30 each after coupons, so I’ll be stocked up for a good long while.
The first haul was last Saturday and I had Lily with me. I hit the Fry Road location (because fuck going to a mall on a Saturday). I started off just looking for the “Rose” Foaming Hand Soap I snagged on my last trip, but they didn’t have any. I ended up letting Lily pick a Shower Gel and Body Lotion from the 75% off bins – she chose “Hello Sun Shine”, a citrus-y one that smells great. I picked up a “Wild Rose & Apple” Shower Gel for myself, now that it’s in the 75% off bin, too. I added two more hand soaps to my bag, plus a “New York” 3-wick candle for $10. Did you know New York smells like “Rosewater & Ivy” – I figured it smelled like pizza rats. Oh, and I found a mini candle of “Sunwashed Petals”, which I’ve never seen before…and then I realized that it was a sniffer for Wallflowers. (They said I could buy it – shrug.) I also added two Wallflowers in the same scent.
The next trip was a lunchtime trip, looking for more of the “Rose” soap. No luck, but I did find “Vetiver”. I grabbed another 8 Hand Soaps, plus a back-up of “Endless Weekend” Shower Gel at 75% off. I also grabbed a 75% off Owl Wallflower Nightlight for Lily’s bedroom. I had bought her a grocery store one when we moved in, but I cannot ever remember what brand it is…plus, did you know that refills for those things cost more than the ones at Bath & Body Works (on sale)? Fuck that. Now her room can smell pretty, too. Oh, and a “Peony” purse lotion.
So…I wonder if this is the last shopping trip this sale?
2 Sales, 2 Hauls
Monday, June 4th was the first day of Bath & Body Works’ Semi-Annual Sale. You know I was there!
I am not particularly a fan of the location adjacent to my office – the dead/dying West Oaks Mall – but I managed to not get shanked while making my way through the parking lot and schlepping through Palais Royale to get there. (Have you ever noticed that Palais Royale ALWAYS smells like hot dog water and raw meat? Not just this one, but all of them. Why is that?)
First day of the sale, there’s plenty of stock and and it’s somewhat neat still. That doesn’t last long. Prices are the highest they’ll be, but that selection…
The first decision I made, was to add “Wild Rose & Apple” to my shower. I picked up 2 shower gels, a body lotion and a fine fragrance mist at 50% off. If I see it go to 75%, I’ll definitely buy more – this shit smells GOOD. My MiL even complimented it.
I considered adding “Rose Quartz” to my shower, but I decided to hold off – I had put some lotion on my hands when I first got to the store, but it started to annoy me. I did go ahead and add 4 Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps at $3 each, two $2 Astrology candles (one for me and one for my sis), a couple of 50% off bath poofs and 3 Wallflower Refills.
A very nice haul, especially since I had a $10 off $40 coupon in my email…but I already had an online order en route. Deep Cleansing Hand Soap was on sale for $3 last week and I couldn’t resist.
I ordered 9 of them. I had to, in order to use the free shipping on $25 coupon. Two of the soaps I picked up Monday were dupes of what I’d already ordered – “Pink Grapefruit Pop” and “Strawberry Lemonade”, but the rest were new.
I’m fairly certain that these will not be my last hauls from the sale. Sorry, not sorry.
OH! And TODAY, Bath & Body Works’ Instagram account regrammed my haul picture. I can die happy.
The Mother of All Sample Bags
Ulta might be stingy when it comes with its regular samples, but they are more than generous when it comes to their gift with purchase sample bags. To kick off the Memorial Day weekend, Ulta offered the Mother of All Sample Bags with a $65 purchase…but first, my purchases.
When I get the emails with a sample bag or gift with purchase, I’ll check the sales and fill up my bag. Sometimes I’ll complete the transaction, but oftentimes I don’t. I’ll usually just leave stuff in my bag for next time. Unfortunately, my bag was empty, so I had to start this shopping trip from scratch. I started by checking the Ulta Sale page. I noticed that Edge/Skintimate Shave Gel was BOGO 50% off. Unfortunately, they were out of Edge, so my husband will get to shave his head with Skintimate. Then I noticed that L’Oreal Colorista Semi-Permanent for Brunette Hair was $8.99, down from $10.99. Since it doesn’t work all that well, I figured it would be perfect to use on the kids. I got 3 – Teal, Midnight Blue and Maroon. I also found Ofra Limited Edition Metallic Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in “Fantasia” (it reflects in blue, red and purple – it’s almost holographic) for $10.20, down from $17.
Another deal I was able to take advantage of was a Makeup Revolution Mystery Bag Offer with $25 purchase. This one was hard to do, since Sally just sent me ALL the newest palettes. I decided on the SophX Ultra 24 Eyeshadow Palette, $15 and the Pro HD Brighter Than My Future Palette, $20, but $16 after my 20% off any one item coupon. I had never heard of @SophieDoesNails until this palette, but apparently, she’s a famous Influencer in the UK. I tried out the eye shadows today (without primer) and they do seem to be slightly higher quality than the normal eyeshadows. They blended seamlessly and lasted decently well. Most of the colors are shimmery and I’m not sure what I’m going to do with all the dark greens, but looking forward to playing with it. It may – or may not – be a dupe for the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette. It looks somewhat similar, but infinitely more wearable. The Pro HD palette is a blush/highlighter palette. The shimmers are INTENSE. I tried one of the striped ones and had to pat half of it off – I looked like an alien. Good stuff, man. Inside the Mystery Bag: the Unicorns Unite Salvation Palette (I actually don’t have this one!), The One Sculpt Contour Stick, Ultra Strobe Stick in “Peach Lightening”, and Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in “The One for All”. Not bad.
And now. what was in the 29 piece Mother of All Sample Bags? In no particular order: tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer (4 shades); DevaCurl Melt into Moisture Matcha Butter Conditioning Mask; Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara; Sexy Hair Sexy Suds Shampoo & Conditioner; Ulta Beauty Poreless Face Primer (nice); Benefit Roller Lash (one of my fave mascaras); Hempz Herbal Healthy Hair Herbal Fortifying Shampoo; First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads; Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50; Sexy Hair Love Oil; Prada Candy; Maybelline Great Lash (that iconic pink and green tube); Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Cloud Cream Cleanser; NYX Worth the Hype Volume & Lengthening Mascara; Eyeko London eye do liquid eye liner in “carbon black”; Woman by Ralph Lauren; dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon Transformative Night Gel-Cream; Julep Love Your Bare Face Cleansing Oil; living proof. No Frizz Nourishing Style Cream; Mario Badescu Aloe Vera Toner (this opened inside the bag and got everything a bit MOIST); Lime Crime Unicorn Hair in “Bunny” (there’s no way this peachy shade would ever work in my hair – or anyone’s hair for that matter); philosophy Purity Made Simple Moisturizer; Mamonde Pore Clean Clay Mask; Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in “St. Tropez”; Lime Crime Diamond Crushers in “Lit” (even though I think Lime Crime is a shit brand, I’m looking forward to trying this one out); Kenra Platinum Luxe One Leave-In All-in-One Miracle Spray; COOLA Dawn Patrol Classic Primer; Garnier Skin Active Micellular Foaming Gel Cleanser; and Becca Ultimate Coverage 24-Hour Foundation (3 foil swatches). That’s a lot of stuff, right? That’s at least $50-60 worth of samples! AND it came in a huge, high quality woven canvas makeup bag. Oh, and did I forget the $5 off $15 Ulta Collection coupon?
I also forgot my regular samples – Redken All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner and HASK Biotin Boost Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner. I checked my Ultimate Rewards Balance and I just need ~$50 more to hit Platinum. There’s a slight possibility that I could make Diamond if I get a few haircuts…
Midweek Target Haul
Sometimes it takes a midweek Target haul to get through a rough week.
I actually had a purpose for this trip – I needed some benadryl cream. But to get to the benadryl cream, I had to walk through the beauty section. I noticed an endcap of bright fuchsia cosmetics on clearance – it was an e.l.f. cosmetics collaboration with fashion designer Christian Siriano. That collab wasn’t even on my radar – how did I miss it? It had to have come out within the last two months?
I didn’t pick up the makeup bag – lord knows I have enough of those – but I did grab the e.l.f. Christian Siriano Eyeshadow Palette ($8.40, down from $12) and e.l.f. Christian Siriano Liquid Matte Lipstick in “Fuchsia” ($4.20, down from $6). The eyeshadow quality is about what you’d expect from e.l.f – meh. The first day, I tried it without primer and although it went on smoothly and blended well, it was very pastel – hardly any pigment. It also faded quickly – it was almost all the way gone when I arrived home from work. The second day I tried it with a primer and had much better results. As soon as my husband got home from work, he said I look like Divine, which is kind of what I look for in a bright colored eye shadow (I was wearing fuchsia on the lid and green in the crease). The lipstick lasts as well as NYX or Wet n Wild, so not bad, but not as high quality as Jeffree or Kat Von D. Good purchases!
I also picked up Love Beauty & Planet Shampoo and Conditioner in “Murumuru Butter & Rose” ($6.99 each). Although I love the SheaMoisture Peace Rose Oil Collection, I don’t know that it is helping my hair much. It’s a bit more pricey ($11.49, but usually BOGO half off) and really, if I get my hair smelling rosy for cheaper – why not? I’ve gotten several Love Beauty & Planet samples in beauty boxes and they shampoo/conditioners seem pretty decent so far. I also have come to the conclusion that I will never find one shampoo/conditioner and stick with it – I’m always looking for a better one.
OH, and I remembered to use my $3 off $15 coupon from this month’s Target Beauty Box. It was even easier since I already had it added to the app.
YAYROUGE, Part 4
Here it is, my fourth and final YAYROUGE order!
I’ve been coveting the Shhhowercap for quite a while, but $43 for a shower cap? It was much easier to swallow at $36.55. (Are you laughing at my rationalization?)
I ordered the Shhhowercap in “Minx” – leopard print. I tried it this morning and it’s just as magical as I expected. The cap fit snuggly over my head – I have a big head – but there was plenty of room for more hair. There’s a little rub strip across the forehead and keep it on and prevents any water for getting in. The back is gathered, but no water creeped in there either. It didn’t fall off either. I had no problem throwing my old grocery store shower cap in the trash – this one is a keeper. No regrets!
For my samples, I got Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful-Look 24-H Foundation; Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (I LOVE it – why is my taste in perfume so expensive?); and Versace Eros Per Femme (the first Versace scent I’ve ever liked – lemony). I also got the usual Mother’s Day pack of scent cards. I smelled all of them and didn’t care for ANY of them. They were all very heavy floral, old lady perfumes.
Just $671 to Rouge!
Coconut and Coffee
I don’t usually share every time I go to Target, but this trip actually contained some “share-worthy” products.
I get all kinds of excited every time St. Ives comes out with a new product. I was able to use my Target Beauty Box coupon on St. Ives Energizing Coconut & Coffee Scrub. So excited to try it! But I’m making myself use up the Shea Moisture scrub before I open it…
I also tried L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Cleanser – Exfoliate & Refine, which is a red clay as opposed to the black clay I have on my sink. Again, I’m forcing myself to use up the old one before I open the new one.
Everything else I bought was much less exciting – Axe Body Wash and Shampoo for the men, Cotton Balls, Toner, Contact Solution and a shit ton of nail polish remover.
I fucking love Target.
YAYROUGE, Part 2 & 3
Yeah, I paid $8 for dental floss. Technically, $6.80 with my 15%…I tried out Cocofloss in “Cara Cara Orange”. Yeah, I know it’s dumb – it’s not even as orangey flavored as I hoped. But I was just so damn salty that the Sun Safety Kit sold out.
For samples, I got Cover FX Shimmer Veil, Tory Burch Tory Burch (I forgot that I love this), and Versace Bright Crystal (my lil sis likes this one). I didn’t pick any of these samples…
My other order makes a lot more sense. I knew I would be getting the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some New Lip Kit ($28, $23.80 after discount) sooner or later. I kind of miss the lip shaped box. I wanted Smashbox Always On Metallic Matte in “XO, Vlada” so bad – and it’s full size! It’s a beautiful copper and lasts all day. I wore Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in “Snobby” to the dentist and it lasted through the whole cleaning. The dentist even complimented it! Also in the box: Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon in “Night Mauves” (also full size); treStiQue Mini Plumping Lip Balm in “Barbados Berry”; and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in “Candy Venom” (gonna try this one tomorrow).
For samples, I got Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer, Woman by Ralph Lauren and Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme. Again, I did not pick any of these samples.
Just $708 to Rouge for 2019. I don’t know if I can do it!
