Oh, their website says that Julep “Raleigh” is the hottest pink shimmer, huh? Well…they are absolutely right! “Raleigh” just might be the hottest of the hot pinks that I own.
I started with Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat, then two coats of “Raleigh”. “Raleigh” had a dreamy consistency, not too thick and not too thin. It’s got a super-dense shimmer and gave full coverage with no VNL in two coats. I finished with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
It’s not me at all, but I’ve really been into hot pinks this summer, especially on my toes. I usually go for a mermaid-y blue/green look, but I guess I’ve turned over a new leaf, er, petal.
So I just got an Ulta order with some fun hair colors for the kids. They really liked the bright colors and I was surprised at how well the colors stayed…well, in my daughter’s hair at least. I am definitely “the cool mom” – I was trying to dye my hair with Black Cherry Kool-Aid when I was my son’s age.
I was checking the price for a friend…and noticed that L’Oreal Colorista for Brown Hair (usually $10.99) was on sale for BOGO Half Off. That’s an even better deal then when I bought it for $8.99. I picked up 4 colors – another Midnight Blue (this one was amazing in my daughter’s hair), Burgundy, Green and Red. I was less than impressed with the Teal I got last time, so I did not reorder. Since I spent $20+ on L’Oreal, I got a free makeup bag. Why not, right?
Ulta Collection was also having a Buy 2, Get 1 Free offer, so I stocked up on brow stuff. I am paranoid of running out of brow pencil while traveling – I’m going to Vegas in about 3 weeks and need to have eyebrows. I was right to order now – I used up 2 old brow pencils this week and gave a third to my daughter! I picked up two Ultra Slim Brow Pencils ($10), one in “Dark Brown” and one in “Brunette”, which is a new shade for me – it’s warmer that “Dark Brown” and I like it for summer. I also tried Brow Pomade in “Dark Brown” ($10). I finally got to try ABH Dip Brow and I LOVE it for a sophisticated brow – I’m just a cheap girl at heart though.
For samples, I got a card with Benefit The POREfessional and Moonlight by Ariana Grande. This perfume smelled SO BAD that my 10 year old daughter wouldn’t even take it…and she wears Cotton Candy scented perfume.
$699.45 to reach Diamond Status. Bwaaaaaaaaaa….
Julep “Tazi” is like a Discoball dipped in limeade – it’s iridescent AND holographic. Can you see the purplish holographic shimmer?
This is two coats of “Tazi” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. It’s truly flawless.
I think I need to match up “Tazi” and “Sam” – what do you think?
July’s Julep Maven Collection is full of bright and amazing jungle colors – they’d be right at home on a Hawaiian shirt or a fun beach towel.
This month’s beauty product was a Body Cleansing Oil, so I decided to pass and pick three polishes. I’ve dabbled in facial oils with varying results, but I cannot imagine rubbing my entire body down with oil and feeling “clean” afterwards.
I picked It Girl “Tazi” – iridescent lime holographic, Wonder Maven “Raleigh” – hottest pink shimmer (hottest? really?), and Boho Glam “Maynette” – palm frond duochrome. (Did you know that Maynette is the name of an astronaut?)
Oh. and I was supposed to get some more nail decals with this box – nope, they didn’t make it into the box. Boo! Hiss!
I should just stop expecting candy – Julep is not giving us any more candy, are they?

Every once in while, Sephora Play! puts out a supplemental box that can be purchased outside of the Play! subscription. I’ve passed the last few, due to either duplicative or lackluster products. I did not pass on THIS one.
The “Glitter Eyes for Real Life” box was $20 and the real reason I added the box to my cart was the rose gold mermaid pouch! My daughter is crazy for sequined mermaid fabric – she has a bunch of the pillows and she fusses with them constantly. When I get tired of playing with it, it’s hers.
Also in the “Glitter Eyes” box: Benefit Bad Girl Bang Volumizing Mascara (I just cracked it open today – this is my new go-to mascara); Grande Lash MD Lash Enhancing Serum (if I paint this on my upper lip every night, will it help me grow a John Waters mustache?); Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12HR wear Waterproof in “Black Lace”; stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in “Kitten Karma” (I just started using the sample I already had and this stuff is the SHIT); Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme; and Bite Beauty Prismatic Pearl Multistick in “Rose Pearl”. The kit also came with a set of cards for each product with application tips and eye shadow looks. There’s also a free webcast on July 15th. The box is still available – CLICK HERE.
OH! and I also added a $5 Sephora Watermelon after-sun mask to my cart – I have avoided sunburn so far this summer, but I still feel like my skin is taking a beating. My $25 purchase (and a promo code) granted me an extra sample – Benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer (interested to try it). My other chosen samples were it Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser, IGK Hot Girls Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner, and Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum.

For Xmas, I think, I got my daughter the China Glaze My Little Pony Songbird Serenade Set. I had forgotten about it…until now.
Songbird Serenade is the name of Sia’s rock star pony in the My Little Pony movie. I’ve managed to avoid watching it…so far. I know my days are numbered once it hits cable. The black sparkly polish is the titular “Songbird Serenade” and the gold chrome polish is “Best Ponies Forever”. I feel like a Sia Pony wearing these polishes together.
This is two coats on each nail, over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
I wasn’t gonna do special nails for the 4th today…I just wasn’t feeling it. The weather was awful and rainy today, we didn’t leave the house, and to be honest, I’m not very proud to be American right now. When I broke a nail putting laundry in the dryer, it was a good excuse to my nails. I even took the decision out of my own hands, by letting Lily pick the polishes for us to use…joke’s on me – she picked 4th of July colors.
My nails were long and at the point of breaking, so I went ahead and trimmed them all down before I got started. After Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat, I started with e.l.f. “Liquid Metal”. It was one of those tiny bottles from a holiday set and it was like spreading peanut butter on my nails – there was barely enough for a single coat. Lily then dictated that I do a swipe of red (China Glaze “Applejack of my Eye”) on the left, and blue (China Glaze “Too Busy Being Awesome”) on the right. Both the red and blue were from the China Glaze My Little Pony Collection. I finished off with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
Our nails turned out pretty nice. I did all the swipes freehand, but since the brushes were tiny, I was able to get somewhat clean lines.
Summer fling don’t mean a thing…But, uh oh, those summer nights…
June’s theme for Sephora Play is “Summer Nights” and features products meant to last well into the night. Oh, look at the that deluxe sample of Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream! I’ve gotten this few times and never tried it – but I’m committed now. I’ve even secured my husband’s service to apply to my bum bum!
Also in this (or last) month’s box: Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Longwear Lipstick in “Queen B” (I’ve been wanting to try this formula, even though I’ve been annoyed at the brand for a bit); Cover FX Perfect Setting Powder; Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover; Marajo Nourishing Cleansing Creme and Deep Treatment Butter (um, you mean shampoo and conditioner?); and Living proof.
frizz styling cream.
No fragrance again – boo! Still a good box, though!
Don’t be a prude, join up now. Sephora Play is only $10/month. You can sign up at sephora.com/play.
Again, a double post with two separate Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale Hauls. Each one ended up being about $30 each after coupons, so I’ll be stocked up for a good long while.
The first haul was last Saturday and I had Lily with me. I hit the Fry Road location (because fuck going to a mall on a Saturday). I started off just looking for the “Rose” Foaming Hand Soap I snagged on my last trip, but they didn’t have any. I ended up letting Lily pick a Shower Gel and Body Lotion from the 75% off bins – she chose “Hello Sun Shine”, a citrus-y one that smells great. I picked up a “Wild Rose & Apple” Shower Gel for myself, now that it’s in the 75% off bin, too. I added two more hand soaps to my bag, plus a “New York” 3-wick candle for $10. Did you know New York smells like “Rosewater & Ivy” – I figured it smelled like pizza rats. Oh, and I found a mini candle of “Sunwashed Petals”, which I’ve never seen before…and then I realized that it was a sniffer for Wallflowers. (They said I could buy it – shrug.) I also added two Wallflowers in the same scent.
The next trip was a lunchtime trip, looking for more of the “Rose” soap. No luck, but I did find “Vetiver”. I grabbed another 8 Hand Soaps, plus a back-up of “Endless Weekend” Shower Gel at 75% off. I also grabbed a 75% off Owl Wallflower Nightlight for Lily’s bedroom. I had bought her a grocery store one when we moved in, but I cannot ever remember what brand it is…plus, did you know that refills for those things cost more than the ones at Bath & Body Works (on sale)? Fuck that. Now her room can smell pretty, too. Oh, and a “Peony” purse lotion.
So…I wonder if this is the last shopping trip this sale?
I’ve been putting it off as long as I could…Julep “Sam” – Limeade Creme – and it’s the polish so ugly, only I could love it!
Julep can call it “limeade” all they want, but it’s not. It’s not neon, but it’s that unnatural shade of yellowish green reserved for Mountain Dew and Monster Energy Drink. Or those weird liqueurs that only pretentious weirdos (like you know who) would drink. (Although I do admit, I’ve been wanting to try Chartreuse again, just to see if it’s as gaggy as I remember.)
Although the first coat was streaky, the second coat fixed everything right up. This is two coats over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
I cannot stop thinking of other polishes to add to it – hot pink polka dots, fuchsia glitter, purple stripes – it would all look amazing! If you have a nail polish that you think is ugly, give it a chance – you might find the love of your life.
