On Wednesday, We Shop at Walgreen’s (and Ulta)
View this post on Instagram
Sinful Colors were 5/$5 this week – only 6 weeks or so since the last sale!
I set aside my entire Wednesday to Walgreen’s hop, so I’d be sure to find Halloween polishes. As luck would have it, I found most of the 2018 Halloween Collection, “Conjured Color”, at the first Walgreen’s. I picked up “Witch, Please”, “Mist-erious”, “Bitten”, “Bad Witch”, and “Spellbound”. Score! I also grabbed a few Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit Liquid Lipsticks from the Halloween Display – “Bewitched” and “Shady Witch”. No “Zombie Blush” in the Halloween Display though. I didn’t realize it, but I had accrued $10 in Bonus Bucks – Score again!
I hit three more Walgreen’s in search of “Zombie Blush” – nothing. (That might sound like a lot of driving, but it was a really tight circle in the Richmond/Katy area. Plus, I drive a Hybrid, so…) I made a quick stop at my Ulta, but no luck there…at first. I immediately spied an OPI Grease Collection Mini Set ($10.97, down from $14.50) and grabbed it for Lily (and myself, I admit). I was about to leave, when I checked a random aisle of hair ties and stuff…and there was the Wet N Wild “Zombie Blush” Display!!! It was $5.99, plus I grabbed another Halloween Liquid Catsuit – “Pink Your Poison”. I hate when ulta has the lame 20% off one item coupons. I couldn’t use it on a clearance item, so I got 20% off my “Zombie Blush” – a measly $1.20 off. At least they have a 3x points for Platinum going this week.
The “Zombie Blush” is amazing! It looks like a grungy grey-green in the pan, but shifts to a rusty reddish shade on your cheeks or eyes. Be warned – a little goes a long, LONG way. It is reminiscent of the color shifting shade in the “Plaid to the Bone” Quad I got a while back.
On a side note, on Friday, I went to a fifth Walgreen’s, still searching for more colors. I found 4 polishes, plus the Matte Top Coat from the “Radical Matte” Collection…but when I went to check out and this collection wasn’t included in the sale. I had to walk away…

$3 for ALL Hand Soaps, plus a 20% off coupon? That wasn’t even the most exciting part…
…a new Bath & Body Works opened up closer to me! I was checking traffic on Google and there it was – a location I had apparently never noticed before, in the Shops at Bella Terra. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by an very exuberant employee named Toby. (I am pretty sure Toby is gonna be my new BFF.) I asked how long they’d been open and he told me three weeks. Frankly, I’m shocked that it took me three weeks to notice.
There wasn’t a limit, but I limited myself to 15 soaps, which ended up as $2.40 each after coupon. I was excited to get some Halloween soaps, like “Vampire Blood” – I put them out immediately. I also let me kids pick a scent. My son picked “Flannel” (he is so grunge, like me) and my daughter picked “Coconut Pumpkin Latte” (is she becoming basic, like me?). Merkin does NOT look impressed by my haul, does she?
I also grabbed a Moisture Lip Crayon in “Peony” ($6.50, down from $8.50), but it was so disappointing. “Peony” was only the color, not the scent. The scent was…bubblegum. Gag.
I cannot WAIT to go see Toby again!
Fire Dragon vs. Ice Dragon
View this post on Instagram
I never really cared about wet n wild makeup – not since Junior High anyway – until they started putting out these awesome collections. I am still peeved that I missed the Goth-o-Graphic Box, but it never hit Ulta as promised.
I did NOT miss the Fire Dragon vs. Ice Dragon Collection Box ($39.99). Inside the Limited Edition box are two set of products – a set of warm toned Fire Dragon products and a set of cool toned Ice Dragon products. I’ve only had a chance to play with the Fire Dragon side, so I might be a little bit biased towards that side. The Fire Side includes Coloricon Loose Pigment in “Gilded Crown” and “Fire Reign”; Coloricon Bronzer in “You’re Dragon Me Down” and “Queen’s Land”; Coloricon Eyeshadow Quad in “Fit for a Queen”; and Megalast Liquid Catsuit Metallic Lipstick in “Queen’s Blood” and “Redlings”. I am IN LOVE with using both shades of lipstick together. The Ice Side includes Coloricon Loose Pigments in “Ice, Ice, Lady” and “To-Knight’s Blue”; Megaglo Highlighting Powder in “Winter Falls in LA” and “Halo Walkers”; Coloricon Eyeshadow Quad in “Mythicool Creatures”; and Megalast Liquid Catsuit Metallic Lipsticks in “Icing on the Wall” and “Shall We Slay”. Lots of cool stuff I still need to play with!
I didn’t stop there. I had added a Pacifica Summer Kale Lip Balm ($1.25) from the sale page. Luckily, it does NOT smell or taste like Kale. I also added the e.l.f. Glow on the Go Selfie Light ($12) this thing is an absolute game changer – no more walking around the bedroom, looking for the perfect light – it makes every selfie perfect. This purchase also got me a gift with purchase – an e.l.f. makeup bag with foil samples of Poreless Face Primer and Hydrating Bubble Mask.
And then I found a BOGO 50% on L’Oreal products. I had been wanting to try their new chocolate lippies AKA L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick Les Chocolat ($9.99), so I ordered 4 out of the 6 shades – “70% Yum”, “Candy Man”, “Dose of Cocoa”, and “Box O Chocolate”. I’ve only had a chance to try out the first two and they have a really strong chocolate smell when you apply them, but the scent is gone as soon as it dries, which take a little minute. I kind of wanted the smell to stick around, but then I remembered how much my husband used to hate this chocolate lip gloss I used to wear to bed – he said it smelled like “chocolate ass”. Personally, I liked the way it smelled…but whatever. They also are very “infallible” – I had to use strong eye makeup remover to get them off my lips. They WILL last all day, whether you want them to or not. ANYWAY, this purchase also garnered me a gift with purchase – a L’Oreal makeup bag with samples of Pure Clay Cleanser Detox-Brighten (my favorite); Age Perfect Eye Renewal Eye Cream; and Voluminous Mascara Primer/Base.
On top of ALL that, I also got another gift with purchase for using my Ultamate Rewards Card – a reversible sequin makeup bag filled with samples. I am pretty sure my daughter is gonna fight me for this bag. Inside samples included: StriVectin Multi-Action Restorative Cream; Lab Series Future Rescue; dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel (package says professional-grade, so does that mean I’ll lose 7 layers of skin?); Matrix Biolage Volume Bloom Aqua-Gel Conditioner (what? no shampoo???); Algenist Ultimate Anti-Aging Melting Cleanser; Algenist Genius White Brightening Anti-Aging Cream; tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Highlighter in “exposed”; and an itty bitty sample of Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in “Dark Brown” (my shade!). Pretty nice perk for just a $40 purchase. Oh and my regular samples were pretty lame – a card with 3 sample shades of Clinique 2-in-1 Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer and Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Bonbon. I did remember use a $3.50 off coupon from an email, but this was still a big order for me – over $80. It will pay off in the long term, as there was a 5x points promo running when I ordered.
Just $453 until Diamond Status. Oh, and somehow, I have accrued $86 worth of Ulta Points (see above promo)…I’ve got my eye on that new Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette – it would match my hair!
YESROUGE, 1 & 2
Sephora’s huge VIB event came a little early this year. From August 24th through September 3rd, with the code YESROUGE, Rouge members are eligible for 20% off anything and everything at Sephora. (VIB get 15% and Beauty Insiders get 10% off.) They changed it up a little bit this year. The code can be used multiple times in store, but only once online. Boooooooo!
Since I could only use the code online once, I tried to fill my cart as full as I possible could. Of course, the thing I wanted most (a limited edition Flamingo print Tangle Teezer for $16) was sold out. I consoled myself by buying a bunch of other stuff that I didn’t need.
It’s a HUGE risk to buy fragrances, scent unsmelled. I’ve been jonesing to try more Jo Malone fragrances, so after flip flopping between Peony and Blush Suede and Red Roses, I decided to go a different direction. Sephora also carries Jo Loves, which is the line that Jo Malone launched in 2011 after she sold her original brand. I chose Jo Loves White Roses & Lemon Leaves – A Fragrance Paintbrush Gel ($55, $44 after discount). This scent is like an avalanche of memories. The scent of white roses brings me back to the courtyard outside the church I attended as a child. Besides my grandmother, those roses were literally the only fond memory I have of attending church. This is the scent of a real rose – NOT rose perfume. My only concern is that the gel won’t last very long – it’s hard to gauge how much product is inside the white plastic tube. Fingers crossed…
I am kicking myself for ordering Kat Von D Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick in “Wizard” ($22, $17.60 after discount). The price went down to $15 the day after I placed my order. Fuuuuuuuck.
I also added a few nail polish sets from the Sale bin: Nails Inc. Unicorn Nail Polish Duo ($10.50, $8.40 after discount), which includes “Sparkle Like a Unicorn in Dream Dust” (3D high sparkle) and “Rainbow Wishes” (soft rainbow sheen) AND Deborah Lippman The World is Your Oyster Nail Polish Duo ($10.50, $8.40 after discount), which includes “Chantilly Lace” and “I Put a Spell on You”.
For samples, I actually got the ones I selected when I ordered: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (4 shades to try!); COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30 in Matte Tint; and Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eua Florale (too much musk with the jasmine – gave me a headache when I wore it yesterday.)
Of course, I did manage to forget something I actually needed for my online order – replacement heads for my Clarisonic.
I headed to Sephora yesterday and quickly picked up a two pack of Clarisonic Acne Facial Cleansing Brush Heads ($44, $35.20 after discount). I looked all around the store and nothing caught my eye (I am biding my time on the Urban Decay Born to Run palette and the Anastasia Norvina Palette.) I was in the checkout maze and something caught my eye…I ended up bringing home the Amika Polished Perfection Mini Straightening Brush ($35, $28 after discount). I wasn’t sure what it would do, but I was looking for something that would give the front of my hair some OOMPH when I skip a day washing. I am just a little bit in love with this device. It heats up quickly and does what it says it does. It made my hair really shiny and smooth, too. Both my kids did their hair with it too and I have to say, I am super jealous of how smooth and shiny is made my son’s long, luscious hair. But then Lily wanted to use it on the cat…Um, noooooo.
I even remembered to bring in the 50 point card from this month’s Play! box. Now that I can get $100 for 2,500 points, I am gonna take advantage!
So after all this shopping, I just have $241 left until ROUGE. That’s just $60/per month, for the next four months. Hallelujah!
About Dang Time!
6 months…6 months I’d been waiting for Sinful Colors to go on sale at Walgreens! The last sale was in February!
Finally, they went on sale this past week – 5/$5. I took this opportunity to get the whole Limited Edition Neon Collection: the pink is “Safari No Sorry”, the tangerine one is “Off Tropic”, the green one is “Palm Down”, the blue one is “Poison Arrow” (just like the frog!), and the violet one is “Amazon Woman”.
I found these on Monday. I also wanted to pick up some Halloween polishes, but the location by my work didn’t have many – I needed another 5! I stopped by two more on the way home from work – no Halloween displays.
On Wednesday, I had to stop by the Walgreens by my surgeon’s office for waterproof bandages, and again – no new polish displays.
On Friday, my son had a headache after Schlitterbahn, so we stopped at a Walgreen’s in Seguin. No new displays there either.
I swear, it’s a fucking conspiracy.
Rose Gold Haul
Sometimes, it is more satisfying to go shopping in person than placing an online order. Especially when it’s Friday, and work is pissing you off…off to Ulta for stress shopping!
The main product I’d been coveting is the new Ulta Beauty 24k Magic Metallic Peel Off Mask ($14). Of course I picked the rose gold version, instead of the regular gold. I tried it out that night and the mask was really nice – results similar to the GlamGlow GravityMud ($59), at a much cheaper price!
Since Ulta was offering a loaded makeup bag as a gift with $19.50 purchase, I rounded up my purchase with 2 additional single use $3 Ulta Beauty Masks (also on promo for Buy 2, Get 1 free) – “Detoxifying Charcoal” Deep Cleansing Clay Mask and “Strawberries & Champagne” Hydrating Glitter Peel Off Mask. I also added a pack of Exfoliating Cotton Pads and a 6-way Nail Buffer. I even got to use a $3.50 off coupon and still get the freebie.
Of course, I picked the Rose Gold version of the Makeup Bag. Inside this suspiciously familiar bag (which looks to be the same one as a gift with purchase I got in June 2017): On-the-Go Makeup Remover Facial Towelettes; a 6 shade eyeshadow palette; a bronzer/illuminator palette; Limitless Lashes Lengthening + Volumizing Mascara; Gel Eye Liner in “Black Out”; Lipstick in “Stay Fierce”; Brow Tint in “Medium”; Tinted Eye Primer in “Satin Blush”; Matte Metallic Liquid Lipstick (no shade name, but I LOVE the color on me); Matte Makeup Setting Spray; a blush brush, an eye shadow brush and a $5 off $15 Ulta Beauty Coupon. The colors in the shadow and lippies are sunset-y fall colors – I am SO ready for fall colors!
All this…for about $23 – not bad. Just $532.50 to Diamond Status…not likely!
Metal Matte Mini
I cannot resist a smoking deal!
The Kat Von D Metal Matte Mini Eye Shadow Palette went on sale for $24, down from $39. Even though most of the shades are dupes from the full Metal Matte Palette, I decided I couldn’t pass up the deal. (When I looked side by side, all of the matte shades are dupes, but three of the metals are new.) I absolutely LOVE the neutral shade combos in this version – I feel like I’ve neglected the original, but will hit pan on this one.
I couldn’t find anything else I needed so I could bump my total up to $25 to use a promo code, so I just went without. I DID find something in the Rewards Bazaar though. I used 100 points on Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Pore Mask. I checked the ingredients and it has kaolin, so a clay mask.
For samples, I got Miu Miu (not as good as L’eau Rosee, but nice); Fresh Soy Face Cleanser; and Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment.
$448 to Rouge!
2 More Semi-Annual Hauls
Again, a double post with two separate Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale Hauls. Each one ended up being about $30 each after coupons, so I’ll be stocked up for a good long while.
The first haul was last Saturday and I had Lily with me. I hit the Fry Road location (because fuck going to a mall on a Saturday). I started off just looking for the “Rose” Foaming Hand Soap I snagged on my last trip, but they didn’t have any. I ended up letting Lily pick a Shower Gel and Body Lotion from the 75% off bins – she chose “Hello Sun Shine”, a citrus-y one that smells great. I picked up a “Wild Rose & Apple” Shower Gel for myself, now that it’s in the 75% off bin, too. I added two more hand soaps to my bag, plus a “New York” 3-wick candle for $10. Did you know New York smells like “Rosewater & Ivy” – I figured it smelled like pizza rats. Oh, and I found a mini candle of “Sunwashed Petals”, which I’ve never seen before…and then I realized that it was a sniffer for Wallflowers. (They said I could buy it – shrug.) I also added two Wallflowers in the same scent.
The next trip was a lunchtime trip, looking for more of the “Rose” soap. No luck, but I did find “Vetiver”. I grabbed another 8 Hand Soaps, plus a back-up of “Endless Weekend” Shower Gel at 75% off. I also grabbed a 75% off Owl Wallflower Nightlight for Lily’s bedroom. I had bought her a grocery store one when we moved in, but I cannot ever remember what brand it is…plus, did you know that refills for those things cost more than the ones at Bath & Body Works (on sale)? Fuck that. Now her room can smell pretty, too. Oh, and a “Peony” purse lotion.
So…I wonder if this is the last shopping trip this sale?
2 Sales, 2 Hauls
Monday, June 4th was the first day of Bath & Body Works’ Semi-Annual Sale. You know I was there!
I am not particularly a fan of the location adjacent to my office – the dead/dying West Oaks Mall – but I managed to not get shanked while making my way through the parking lot and schlepping through Palais Royale to get there. (Have you ever noticed that Palais Royale ALWAYS smells like hot dog water and raw meat? Not just this one, but all of them. Why is that?)
First day of the sale, there’s plenty of stock and and it’s somewhat neat still. That doesn’t last long. Prices are the highest they’ll be, but that selection…
The first decision I made, was to add “Wild Rose & Apple” to my shower. I picked up 2 shower gels, a body lotion and a fine fragrance mist at 50% off. If I see it go to 75%, I’ll definitely buy more – this shit smells GOOD. My MiL even complimented it.
I considered adding “Rose Quartz” to my shower, but I decided to hold off – I had put some lotion on my hands when I first got to the store, but it started to annoy me. I did go ahead and add 4 Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps at $3 each, two $2 Astrology candles (one for me and one for my sis), a couple of 50% off bath poofs and 3 Wallflower Refills.
A very nice haul, especially since I had a $10 off $40 coupon in my email…but I already had an online order en route. Deep Cleansing Hand Soap was on sale for $3 last week and I couldn’t resist.
I ordered 9 of them. I had to, in order to use the free shipping on $25 coupon. Two of the soaps I picked up Monday were dupes of what I’d already ordered – “Pink Grapefruit Pop” and “Strawberry Lemonade”, but the rest were new.
I’m fairly certain that these will not be my last hauls from the sale. Sorry, not sorry.
OH! And TODAY, Bath & Body Works’ Instagram account regrammed my haul picture. I can die happy.
Two summers ago, Kat Von D publicly ended her 10 year friendship with Jeffree Star. No need to rehash the messy drama – anyone can google it. The bigger question – who will think of the makeup???
Kat Von D discontinued the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick “Jeffree” in the midst of the feud. But guess what popped up on Sephora’s site on sale for $12? That’s right, and ADD TO CART. Nevermind that the tube is AT LEAST two years old, if not three or four. Oh well.
Although the brand describes the color as “hot pink”, it’s really more of a plastic flamingo pink. It’s super streaky, too. I liked like a weirdo when I wore it. That’s what I get for being attracted to a product just because it’s discontinued.
Sephora also skimped and only gave me two samples in my box: tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Sunscreen (4 shades to try) and Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser (pretty sure that’s not how you spell ‘yogurt’).
$507 to Rouge…
