July Julep Maven Box – Neon Nights

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Even though my Julep box was there waiting for me when I got back from vacation, I got distracted by all the goodies I purchased…

July’s theme is “Neon Nights”, and offered a selection of bright summer colors. I chose Bombshell “Hayat”blazing hibiscus creme – and Boho Glam “Nadine”tangy persimmon creme (to match my persimmon tree). I also chose the new So Plush Lip Gloss in “werk” – I cannot resist trying Julep’s lip products, even though they go bad before I can ever use them up. Even though I KNOW that it’s because they’re not loaded with nasty preservatives, it kind of irks me that they go rancid after less than a year. I also used Jules to get Palm Tree Nail Decals – so summery!

No candy this month, which is smart given the weather. Instead, I got another sheet of metallic temporary tattoos. I’m thinking Lily will get these.

June Julep Maven Box – Bask in the Heat

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Let me just say, I fucking HATE the summertime. There is NO part of me that is excited to “bask in the heat”. It’s the first week of June and it’s already 95 degrees. Killlllll meeeeeeeeee.

Even though the weather has me grouchy, I can still crack a smile for my Julep box. I went ahead and selected Julep’s new mascara – With a Twist Lash Boosting Bamboo Mascara in “Jet Black”. It’s a decent mascara, very similar to Length Matters, which I love…but I didn’t see any remarkable difference in volume after twisting the brush. I’ll keep practicing…

For polishes, I chose Boho Glam “Marisol”golden amber metallic – and Classic with a Twist “Jaydra”Tuscan rose sheer holographic. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve really been digging gold polish. Oh, and I also used Jules to get another love your bare face Detoxifying Cleansing Stick – I love this thing with my Clarisonic.

…and an Atomic Fireball. Fuck you. Yup, grouchy again.

May Julep Maven Box – Sun Crush

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Oooohhh, matte shimmers!

That’s right, the May Collection – “Sun Crush” – is completely matte shimmers…and I could only pick two, because I had to finally get my hands on No Excuses Invisible Sunscreen Gel. I was supposed to get it in my August 2016 box, but there was an issue with the formula…but it’s available now – and just in time for my summer fun.

For polishes, I chose It Girl “Channon”water lily white matte shimmer – and Classic with a Twist “Marina”royal raspberry matte shimmer. I wanted them all and I might just switch them into future boxes.

The candy is back…and it was a tiny pouch of Sixlets. Boo.

April Julep Maven Box – Relax & Remix

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

So, I wasn’t feeling all of the Spring-like polishes available in this month’s “Relax & Remix” Collection. So I picked just one polish – Julep Bombshell “Eliza”, infinite ocean holographic. No idea why Julep It Girl “Ming”wild orchid jelly – is in my box. Thanks, I guess?

I decided to enlarge my makeup collection. I picked a new shade of Feels Like Velvet Full Coverage Eye Shadow Duo – “cinnamon & spice”. I LOVE these colors on me. They’re very warm and light up my face. I’m also impressed with the creamy formula – they stayed put all day without primer. I also picked a matching lippie – It’s Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in “Say Hello”, rich marsala matte. It’s Whipped doesn’t last through meal, well…not tablitas and fajitas, anyway. I’m not sure ANY lippie would last through the juicy smoked ribs I ate yesterday.

March Julep Maven Box – Spring To It

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

I was a little bit heartbroken when I open this month’s Julep box and found that there was no insert describing this month’s box – “Spring to It”. I don’t really do anything with it after I read it, but I like having it. No candy either, although there were a few bonus Julep One-Step Nail Polish Remover Pads. That’s something I guess.

I got over my heartbreak as soon as I remembered what was in my box – Bombshell “Lara”, shell pink with gold shimmer. Yes, I finally got my very own Julep polish. I’m so happy I could shit! I also picked Boho Glam “Rosemary”, modern brick creme (dried blood, if you ask me). I also got Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum. I was expecting it to have a scent, but it doesn’t smell like anything. It’s much lighter than cuticle oil, and it doesn’t get all over everything.

I can’t wait to try my namesake polish!

February Julep Maven Box – Cozy in Love

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Not sure what’s so cozy or in love about the February Collection, but I like it.

I skipped the lipsticks this month and went for all polish. I chose It Girl “Maylee” (midnight navy with gold microshimmer), Bombshell “August” (chocolate cherry ghost shimmer) and Bombshell “Jolene” (iron ore metallic). I also got gold metal studs to wear on my nails…those will be interesting.

I also used jules to get Voila! Nail Polish Thinner – I want to make sure my older polishes can still be used.

Oh, and a little sample of Love Your Bare Face Hydrating Cleansing Oil.

No candy this month – it’s a travesty!

January Julep Maven Box – Future Fresh

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

New year, new subscription boxes! Well, technically not new…I’ve been getting Julep boxes for over three years now and I still love them as much as ever.

January’s box is “Future Fresh”. Honestly, I haven’t jumped on the oil bandwagon, but I took a chance in selecting Julep’s Boost Your Radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Facial Oil. I’ve been using it semi-consistently for the last 5-6 days. I don’t know that I’ve noticed a difference in my skin –  was already in the middle of a mid-winter skin freakout. (I’m thinking that the breakout was overcompensation from trying to combat dry, winter skin.) I don’t know that my skin is more radiant, but I do feel like the oil has a skin blurring effect. Best of all, it smells absolutely DIVINE. I am in love with the romantic rose/bergamot scent, although it is almost too hippy for me.

For polishes, I chose It Girl “Darcy” – Baja Sunrise Sheer Iridescent Shimmer – and Wonder Maven “Pacita” – Honey Ginger Sheer Iridescent Shimmer. Yup, two sheer shimmer polishes – they’re radiant. Oh, and they sent me a Tootsie Roll Pop. Ugh, all that licking.

December Julep Maven Box – This Way to the Soiree

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Oh hi, Julep – nice to see you so early this month.

“This Way to the Soiree” is December’s theme. They brought back It’s Whipped Matte Lip Mousse as the featured beauty product. I picked one of the new shades – “Swoon”, Heathered Wine Matte.

For polishes, I chose Boho Glam “Bree”Golden Gardenia Multidimensional Glitter (Gardenias are white?), and It Girl “Kristjana”Sweet Plum Holographic (this will look amazing with the lipstick). This month’s treat made me gag – a green apple Gilliam Candy Cane. I fucking HATE green apple.

November Julep Maven Box – Light & Shadow

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

It’s Julep time!

This month’s “Light & Shadow” theme brings a range of colors and finishes. For polishes, I chose Classic with a Twist “Carrie Ann”, blush sheer holographic, and It Girl “Mercedes”, canyon rose metallic (what’s a canyon rose?). Both gave me a Thanksgiving vibe – perfect for November. For my beauty product, I chose a new shade of Eyeshadow 101 Creme-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick – “Burgundy Shimmer”. I have high hopes for upping my game on lazy makeup days (basically, when I hit snooze too many times).

I used Jules to get another Oxygen Bonding Base Coat. It really DOES make a difference with Julep polishes – less bubbles and it sticks so much better.

The treat in my box was a single chocolate ball. I just popped it my mouth – not bad, better than Hershey. Why only one?

October Julep Maven Box – Dark and Stormy Nights

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Oooooh! More Halloween polishes!

Julep’s October theme is “Dark and Stormy Nights” and the polishes are dark and foreboding. I picked Boho Glam “Skylla” (black coffee ghost shimmer) and It Girl “Ebony” (graphite holographic). All Mavens also got a free bonus polish – It Girl “Desiree” (high-gloss holographic top coat). I’m ready to rock some dark and stormy nails.

I also picked another Night Shift Deep Sleep Facial Maskthe one I got last October is almost gone. I use it a couple of times a week and I love using it after using my Clarisonic and Love Your Bare Face Cleansing Stick.

No candy or treat this month – what’s up with that?
