Chance of Rainbows

I know I am supposed to be sampling all of my new Sinful Colors polishes, but this little Color Club beauty was SCREAMING at me from the clearance aisle at Walmart. For just $3.75, she came home with me.

This is Color Club “Chance of Rainbows” is gold glitter floating in a clear base with hidden blue shimmer – there’s a lot going on! The polish is PACKED with glitter – I got 75% coverage in two coats. This is two coats of “Chance of Rainbows” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat. I used Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat on my thumb and ringer finger and regular Glisten & Glow Top Coat on the rest. I think I like the way the matte nails look better.

I was disappointed at how quickly this polish chipped, but I don’t think it was the polish’s fault. I feel like the Mani Me decals really damaged my nails. I cleaned my nails with rubbing alcohol, but I still felt like the top layer of my nails was pitted and stripped from the adhesive. I also got the majority of the chips while unpacking some boxes from my garage. The newspapers the junk was wrapped in was from July 2006 – that stuff made it through fifteen years and three moves! My poor nails…they need some TLC.

Ghosted

Color Club “Ghosted” was an ipsy add-on from last summer. It was patiently waiting for me…

Color Club polishes are so thick and smooth – for most people, this would be one coat coverage…but you know I always gotta do two. I started with Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and topped with Glisten & Glow Top Coat, except for the pinky…which got a coat of Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat.

I have no idea why this polish is called “Ghosted” – at first, I thought the name was trying to be spooky, but maybe it’s referring to “ghosting” a dude?

December 2020 Ipsy Bag – Home for the Holidays

Well of course, I’m home for the holidays – we cannot go anywhere!

I cannot stop stroking this month’s fuzzy makeup bag – it’s like a pink sheep!

I am loving getting a Color Club Nail Polish every few months – this month, I got “Get Lost”, a creamy powder blue. Lily already snatched it to use – I hope I get to use it soon.

Also in this month’s bag: Feel Enzymatic Exfoliating Cleanser (I love the almond-y scent); Goldfaden MD Facial Detox Clarify + Clear Mask (I LOVE this mask – it’s got a hint of tingle and it made my skin AMAZING); IBY Beauty Lush Eyeshadow in “Yoga Pants” (A perfect “lazy” eye shadow – a single swipe across the eye and you’re done); and Kensie Life Beat Body Lotion (the only product in this month’s bag that I haven’t sampled yet).

This might be the best bag I’ve received all year. I did not select a product this month, but their picks were perfect for me.

I subscribe to the basic ipsy bag for $12/month. If you’d like to try Ipsy – click here. I’ll earn 250 points if you sign up through my referral link.

On the Catwalk

I love a good red nail polish and Color Club “Catwalk” does not disappoint.

“Catwalk” is from this month’s ipsy bag. I am shook – it is a the perfect Morticia Addams shade of red.

This is two coats over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. The polish is shiny on its own, but a glossy top coat makes it POP.

“Catwalk” was a long lasting polish, too – it lasted on my nails nearly a week with only slight edge wear. I still have it on my toes.

June 2020 Ipsy Bag – Make Waves

Ooooh, now this is a nice ipsy bag.

For this month’s product choice, I decided to go out of character and pick Sugar Cosmetics Matte as Hell Lip Crayon in “Scarlett O’Hara”. I admit that I was drawn to the name, not because I like Gone with Wind – I don’t care for it – but because my son’s name would’ve been Scarlett Uhura if he was a girl. Not only is is a pretty, neutral toned red…but it has staying power! I was shocked that it last all day and didn’t transfer much. It was a really good pick.

Also in this month’s bag: Color Club “Catwalk” (I love trampy red nail polish); Malin+Goetz Grapefruit Cleanser (I got this in a Birchbox 5 years ago – I love the scent); Eddie Funkhouser Domed Blending Brush (who is Eddie Funkhouser?); and Pureheals Ginseng Berry 80 Overnight Mask (it’s not really a mask, just a light moisturizer).

I subscribe to the basic ipsy bag for $12/month. If you’d like to try Ipsy – click here. I’ll earn 250 points if you sign up through my referral link. I am starting to get tempted to subscribe to the yearly plan…

Palm to Palm

I did not wear “Weekend Superpowers” very long – I did not feel glamorous wearing it.

I was happy to move on to July’s ipsy polishColor Club “Palm to Palm”. A vibrant crelly, I was surprised that it dried so sheer – you can see my nail line. This is two coats over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

I ended up with a lot of extra polish in the edges of my nails – the brush was all fucked up. It looked like a rooster’s tail…after a tussle with a weedeater. So, I am wondering if the brush being all fucked up was a fluke thing or if lower quality bottles were intentionally off-loaded on ipsy…hmmmm…Regardless, it is a lovely color and I’ll use it again.

OH! And it also stained a bit when I took it off – be careful with this polish!

July 2019 Ipsy Bag – Dive In

Dive in? Well, okay. I’m just glad that the “Dive In” theme isn’t all waterproof products – I cannot ever get that shit off.

My product choice this month was Smashbox Cosmetics Always On Lipstick in “Babe Alert”. Nude rose – I cannot get enough of nude rose lipstick.

Also in this month’s palm frond decorated ipsy bag: Billion Dollar Brows Eyebrow Brush (the insert says that the brush is infused with charcoal to resist bacteria – what? why?); Color Club Nail Polish in “Palm to Palm” (it matches the palm fronds on the makeup bag); FEEL Mindful Palo Santo Soothing Mask; and TheBalm Cosmetics Eyeshadow in “He Said, She Said” (I may need to try a primer woith this shade – I used it this morning, and the shimmery lavender shade was barely visible).

Williamsburg

When I get a new polish in my hands – I just cannot wait to use it!

This is Color Club “Williamsburg” from January’s ipsy bag. It’s a dark, dark, inky blue, with a magnificent shimmer. The pictures do not do it justice. In passing, it looks black – which is a shame. Have you ever had a blue ink pen burst in your pocket? THAT’S what this polish looks like.

This is two coats of “Williamsburg” over Glisten & Glow Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

I don’t have much experience with Color Club nail polishes – this is only my second one, I think. I’ve been fairly impressed with them however, and may look into more.

We went to Colonial Williamsburg a few summers ago, and I don’t remember seeing anything this color. What an odd name for this amazing color.

January 2019 Ipsy Bag – Recharge

I am getting total summer vibes from this month’s ipsy bag. I mean, look at this summery bag – baby blue chambray stripes with a hint of coral lining…ugh, why are my feet so cold? Maybe because it’s January.

Inside this month’s “Recharge” bag: Fluide Lip Gloss in “Elsewhere” (brand is new to me…and um, will this blue gloss make me look like Elsa?); Color Club Nail Polish in “Williamsburg” (this blackened blue glitter is HAWT); Illumasqua Colouring Pencil Eye Crayon in “Honour”; Pure Brazilian Leave-in Conditioner; and H2O+ Beauty Oasis Hydrating Treatment.

This is a rather random assortment of products. The brands are kind of off as well. Is ipsy the next subscription box to get the boot???

I haven’t gotten my Allure or Sephora boxes yet this month…I wonder what that means?

Fuck You, Albert

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

As always, I’m a bit behind. Twin Peaks: The Return ended just a few weeks ago, but I can’t get the ending out of my head. It literally blew my mind – and yes, I am not incorrectly using the word “literally” instead of “metaphorically”. It’s a total mindfuck.

At the center of that mindfuck is my favorite new/old character in The Return, Diane Evans. Even though Diane was an integral part of the original series, as the unseen person on the other end of Coop’s trusty tape recorder, she was nothing like anyone expected. She was BETTER. Her answer to any line of inquiry was “Fuck you” – something that may be in my head, but she had the lady balls to say it. And then I saw her nails.

The first thing I did was chop them all to a demure, matching length. Then I dug DEEP into my polish stash to find matches…The thumb and pinky were easy – Sinful Colors “Black on Black”. The wine colored index was also easy – Pacifica “Red Red Wine”. I had the hardest time with my middle finger – after comparing half a dozen polishes, I finally decided on Color Club “Aquamarine Azulino” – it has a bit of a pearl to it, but not enough to make it distracting. I came across Sally Hansen “Hot Magenta” while digging – it’s an oldie, but goodie.

Two coats on each nail, sandwiched between Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and Top Coat.

Ignore the mangled cuticle on my index finger – ugh, I’ll fix it with Vanish before the next polish.
