Not So Good Girl

A photo posted by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

I guess I am not so good of a girl…I was totally incapable of driving past the Bath & Body Works Outlet – in the middle of a 6 hour drive – without stopping.

I didn’t go crazy. I picked up 5 more Hand Soaps – 3 for me and 2 for Lily. I had to get “Very Merry Berry” after smelling it in Erin’s bathroom this past weekend.

Logan asked for a Wallflower for his room  – how could I say no to a pre-teen who wants their room smelling good? I got that, plus 4 more refills.

I also couldn’t pass up “Sweet Cranberry Rose” at 75% off – it was only 50% during my last trip. I picked up the Fine Fragrance Mist, the Body Cream and Shower Gel. In retrospect, I should have gotten more shower gel – it smells wonderful.

Got to use my $10 off $40 again – at least that part was good.

Son Torture Saturday

/

My husband was as shocked as I was that Lily wanted to go home with him after lunch and my son Logan wanted to go shopping with me…I am pretty sure it was because I mentioned that I might hit HEB on the way home to get guacamole – he loves all the free samples at HEB. Boy was he in for a surprise.

First we hit Ulta. I wanted to check out Zoya clearance polishes I’d been seeing online. (If ONLY my Ultas carried Deborah Lippman!) They had ALL of the special display polishes on clearance for $4.47 – since I have 3 polishes coming from the 3/$15 deal, I was conservative and only got Zoya “Dovima”, the matte black. I had my finger crossed that it would ring up at $.97, but it didn’t. I was pleasantly surprised that the Ulta “Mango Tango” Bath Smoothie I picked up for my husband DID ring up at $.97 – I was expecting $5.99. I didn’t even get to use my $3.50 off coupon. My poor son had to stand there for 20-30 minutes while I tried a few different foundations. I was bummed that they were out of the “Light” Urban Decay BB Cream. I tried the “Medium” on my wrist and I liked the texture…the hunt is on.

The second stop was Bath & Body Works for one more spin at the Semi Annual Sale. Again, I was looking for more of the Aromatherapy Stress Relief Bath Foam. They didn’t have any, but they did have the Stress Relief Hand Cream. I also stocked up on 5/$10 Scentportables for our cars, $4 candles, 2 $3 “Pacific Cool Breeze” Hand Soaps and 2 more “Dark Amber” Body Washes for my husband. I also got to whip out my $10 off $40 email – receipt said I saved $68.25.

Stop three – although we had already gone to Target as a family, I had to go to a SECOND Target to find one of my beloved Up & Up Dip-its. By now, my son was starting to be annoyed, so I bribed him with clearance Lindt Dark Chocolates.

The chocolate enabled us to power through to stop four – Big Lots. Big Lots always has the best prices on Pop Tarts. They had Raspberry Pop Tarts, which I confirmed this morning are the VERY best flavor of Pop Tarts ever made – even better than Pumpkin Pie or Red Velvet. I couldn’t resist digging through the nail polish bin – they had so much! I settled for just a single $1 bottle – Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in “Sage Smash”. He also talked me into buying Cherry filled, chocolate covered Twinkies. I’m such a pushover.

By this point, we were exhausted…so we just went home. My poor son had to go through all this – holding fingernail polish for me, watching me swatch foundation and search for bubble bath – and he didn’t even get his free HEB food. I’m a mean mommy…

Le Poop and Le Barf

/

Puss has being absolutely BEGGING to be featured on my site and today, she wouldn’t take NO for an answer.

My son thinks he is a comedian. As I gleefully opened up my Ulta “Finishing Touches” Fragrance Collection, he asked if any of the perfumes were from France. So I started reading off where the perfumes were from and he says, “I thought so – it smells like Le Poop and Le Barf.” How can a 9 year old be so funny?

A few Saturdays ago, I was sitting at my daughter’s Gymnastics Class and got an Ulta email…The special of the day was 2/$40 on the “Finishing Touches” set, plus a free stainless steel 3 piece serving set. Why not? I can keep one and use the other for a white elephant gift. (I was a little perturbed when I saw that Ulta will have these for $14.99 on Black Friday, but then again – that would require leaving the house on the most dangerous day of the year.)

Inside the box: Bvulgari “Omnia Crystalline”, Calvin Klein “Endless Euphoria”, DKNY “MYNY”Estée Lauder “Modern Muse”, Giorgio Armani “Acqua Di Gioia”, Jimmy Choo “Jimmy Choo”, Juicy Couture “Viva La Juicy”Lancôme “La Vie est Belle”, Philosophy “Loveswept” (the only one of these that I already own – I got it for Valentine’s Day), Prada “Prada Candy”, Ralph Lauren “Midnight Romance”, and Vince Camuto “Femme”. The set also came with a refillable purse atomizer and a $5 off Fragrance Coupon.

I also picked the mystery sample pack – I got L’Oreal EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo, Conditioner and Humidity Defying Leave-in Creme; Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream and Redken Diamond Oil. Interesting…

I can’t wait to try all my new fragrances – I hope I like at least one of them…

Mother’s Day

/

Oh, Mother’s Day.

I have a love/hate relationship with Mother’s Day. The hate has faded a bit in recent years. Mostly love now, but the twinges of hate since I lost my mother are still there. I can’t imagine how people without children or mothers can tolerate Mother’s Day. My first Mother’s Day as a mother was also my last Mother’s Day with my mother – I never had a gap where I was alone on the holiday. Even then, the first few years were difficult, even with my kids and husband rallying around me. I’m able to love it now because my husband goes the extra mile in facilitating how my kids show their appreciation. I’m not talking flowers and chocolate necessarily, but the true expression of what my children think that I will enjoy.

/

The true expression of what my son thought I would enjoy was my very own Zebco fishing pole. He had been planning this gift since Spring Break, when I caught my first fish – and fishing fever – using Lily’s ‘Dora the Explorer’ fishing pole. It’s hot pink and awesome, but he was very disappointed that he couldn’t find one that exactly matched my car. He told me that he knows how important it is that everything match my car.

He also cooked me breakfast – red velvet waffles and scrambled eggs. It was DAMN good.

The true expression of what my daughter thought I would enjoy was…of course…fingernail polish. I had my suspicions when she and my husband snuck away while I was at Target yesterday. She picked out 7 polishes for me: 3 China Glaze Crinkled Chrome“Crush, Crush Baby”, “Don’t Be Foiled” & “Wrinkling the Sheets” (I already have the first 2, but so what), Nina “Blue La La” & “Gold Flake Topcoat”, Orly “Bubbly Bombshell” and Sally Girl “Red Glitter”.

In order to show my daughter how much I love her, I let her paint my fingernails. I have NEVER let her paint my fingernails before. For my left hand, she chose Nina “Blue La La” and “Gold Flake Topcoat”. It looking amazing together! For my right hand, she chose “Crush, Crush Baby” and “Bubbly Bombshell”. Again, an impressive combination. I topped both hands with Sally Hansen Diamond Flash.

I’m thinking this could be a new Mother’s Day tradition, because once a year is probably as often as I could handle someone else painting my nails…
