Regents Place

In any case, Nails Inc. Gel Effect “Regents Place” was a freebie from a a few summers ago, and I just got around to sampling this shiny periwinkle polish. It wasn’t streaky and it was quite striking.

When I googled Regents Place, I was expecting something traditionally British and quaint…y’all…it’s a fucking high rise, mixed use development – a fucking skyscraper mall.

This is two coats of “Regents Place” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Feel the Hotness

Ooohhh…more color changing polish!

Nails Inc. “Feel the Hotness” is labeled as a “heat reactive” polish, but it takes a bit of work to see the effect. As you can see, the polish is blue at room temperature in the bottle, but white on my nails. My body heat is making it turn white…but I ran an ice cube over my nails for the second picture, and you can see how it turned blue. This would be a GREAT polish on long nails – my nails are not quite long enough for the tips to get significantly colder than the base.

This is two coats of “Feel the Hotness” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. This polish was particularly long lasting – I loved how long it lasted on my nails!

The Cheeziest!

I am the proud owner of MULTIPLE cheese scented nail polishes. What a world we live in!

Nails Inc. “La Dolce Velveeta” captures the golden goodness of Velveeta, not only in shade, but in its light scent. I’ll admit, I was gagging a little bit when applying this polish…but it also made me a little bit hungry? The scent did not stick around long, but as I rammed my fingers under my husband’s nose at bedtime, he claimed he could smell the cheese.

This is just one coat of “La Dolce Velveeta” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat. I was considering doing a second coat, but the minor streaks made the polish look more like a cheezy Velveeta sauce, so I went with it. I did not use a top coat, because I wanted to see how long the cheesy odor would last. The matching nail decals did not last long without a top coat – they started peeling after a bout of dishes. Now that I know that the scent doesn’t last long, I’ll use a top coat next time.

I felt quite self conscious about having a nail that said, “creamy,” but since I never leave the house, no one noticed. I like the shell macaroni decals the best…hey, I need someone to make me Velveeta Shells & Cheese!

All this for Velveeta Nails…

Why yes, I DID purchase the viral Velveeta Nail Polish…did you think I wouldn’t?

I snatched up the Nails.INC x VELVEETA Pinkies Out Polish Creamy Smooth Cheese Scented Nail Polish Duo ($15), as well as the Nails.INC x VELVEETA Irresistible Nail Stickers ($4.99). I cannot wait to experience the cheese fingers for myself!

I have a strong aversion to paying for shipping, so I loaded my cart with items to hit the $50 threshold for free shipping. I had always wanted to try magnetic nail polish, so I got the Get Magnetized Magnet Effect Nail Polish Duo ($15). I also got Color Changing Nail Polish in “Feel the Hotness” ($10), Leopard Spot Topper in “Prowling in Paddington” ($10), and Nourishing Lip Balm in “Share My Fantasy” ($3.20).

I used a code to get 10% off my first order, as well as a free Gel Effect nail polish in “Regent Place”.

I do find it rather odd that Nails Inc (a London based company) is selling a nail polish themed after a product that is rare to find (affordably) in the UK. In fact, I’ve mailed Velveeta to friends in Scotland, as it’s so hard to find. I’ve also packed it in my (daughter’s) carry-on while traveling to Alaska, and got popped by Security. Apparently, fake cheeze looks like C4, when packed inside a 6 year old’s luggage…

St. Patrick’s Day on Bruton Mews

Since my “Pistachio Praline” didn’t last, I got to do another set of green St. Patrick’s Day nails.

I started with two coats of Nails Inc. “Bruton Mews” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat. This is the darkest, most luscious dark green polish I’ve ever seen. (It’s been chilling in my “untried basket” since I received it in a BB5 back in 2016.) I wanted a few fancy accent nails, so I used Sally Hansen “Fanta-Sea” on my thumb and ring fingers. I remembered to use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber this time! I finished off with a thick coat of Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

…and since I am not British, I totally had to Google what a “Mews” is. “Mews” is a fancy name for stables, in case you were wondering.

Nails on a Chalkboard

…or is it a chalkboard on my nails?

Honestly, that didn’t even cross my mind with this polish at first – I just kept thinking of of army/camo green. It wasn’t until I tested the matte top coat of my pinky that I saw it – it’s just like an old fashioned, dark green chalkboard.

This is Nails, Inc. “Weekend Superpowers” from this month’s ipsy bag. I groaned audibly when I saw the color – it’s just so…dull. It doesn’t make sense at all for summer – it is more of a fall/winter polish. A friend mentioned that she received a peach polish, so I guess not everyone received this funky color. Or maybe it makes sense, in a “Back to School” sorta way?

This is two coats of “Weekend Superpowers” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat, except for the pinky with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat.

August 2019 Ipsy Bag – Bare Yourself

Oh, ipsy I knew I shouldn’t have mentioned how much I don’t want waterproof products last month – I got 2 of them this month!

Waterproof eye shadow? Ugh, like I am going to wear a full face to the pool? Regardless, the Suva Beauty Eyeshadow in “Turmeric” is a “water-resistant” gold foil. The Huda Beauty Lip Contour in “Trophy Wife” is also listed as waterproof, which makes a bit more sense for a longwear lip lip liner.

Also in this month’s shockingly weird dark green, pyramid studded vinyl bag: It Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion Moisturizer (my product selection for the month – looking forward to sampling this one); Nails Inc. Nail Polish in “Weekend Superpowers” (the same weird, flat dark green as the makeup bag); and Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Moisture Cleansing Foam.

I didn’t add on any products this month – nothing looked tempting.

Rainbow Wishes

I have unicorn nails!

I had totally forgotten about Nails Inc. “Rainbow Wishes” – I found it hidden in a cabinet in the living room. I am pretty sure I have random bottles of polish stashed throughout the house. Isn’t that what alcoholics do – stash bottles around the house? I’m definitely a polishoholic!

This is two coats of “Rainbow Wishes” over Glisten & Glow Base Coat and topped with Glisten & Glow Top Coat. I looooooooove it.

And, since this polish is so light and sheer, I could probably get away with wearing it for EVER. Edge wear and chips blend in – you cannot even see it.

Dream Dust

Nails Inc. “Dream Dust” is dreamy AND dusty! “Dream Dust” was my first pick to try from the Nails Inc. Unicorn Nail Polish Duo.

I just took the polish off a few minutes ago and rest assured – the gold is actually glitter, NOT shimmer. I feel like I will never get all the glitter off my skin, no matter how many times I wash my hands.

This is two coats of “Dream Dust” over Glisten & Glow Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Possible dupes are Essence “Space Glam” and Zoya “Faye”, but I feel like there’s a lot more gold in “Dream Dust” than the other two.

YESROUGE, 1 & 2

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Sephora’s huge VIB event came a little early this year. From August 24th through September 3rd, with the code YESROUGE, Rouge members are eligible for 20% off anything and everything at Sephora. (VIB get 15% and Beauty Insiders get 10% off.) They changed it up a little bit this year. The code can be used multiple times in store, but only once online. Boooooooo!

Since I could only use the code online once, I tried to fill my cart as full as I possible could. Of course, the thing I wanted most (a limited edition Flamingo print Tangle Teezer for $16) was sold out. I consoled myself by buying a bunch of other stuff that I didn’t need.

It’s a HUGE risk to buy fragrances, scent unsmelled. I’ve been jonesing to try more Jo Malone fragrances, so after flip flopping between Peony and Blush Suede and Red Roses, I decided to go a different direction. Sephora also carries Jo Loves, which is the line that Jo Malone launched in 2011 after she sold her original brand. I chose Jo Loves White Roses & Lemon Leaves – A Fragrance Paintbrush Gel ($55, $44 after discount). This scent is like an avalanche of memories. The scent of white roses brings me back to the courtyard outside the church I attended as a child. Besides my grandmother, those roses were literally the only fond memory I have of attending church. This is the scent of a real rose – NOT rose perfume. My only concern is that the gel won’t last very long – it’s hard to gauge how much product is inside the white plastic tube. Fingers crossed…

I am kicking myself for ordering Kat Von D Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick in “Wizard” ($22, $17.60 after discount). The price went down to $15 the day after I placed my order. Fuuuuuuuck.

I also added a few nail polish sets from the Sale bin: Nails Inc. Unicorn Nail Polish Duo ($10.50, $8.40 after discount), which includes “Sparkle Like a Unicorn in Dream Dust” (3D high sparkle) and “Rainbow Wishes” (soft rainbow sheen) AND Deborah Lippman The World is Your Oyster Nail Polish Duo ($10.50, $8.40 after discount), which includes “Chantilly Lace” and “I Put a Spell on You”.

For samples, I actually got the ones I selected when I ordered: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (4 shades to try!); COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30 in Matte Tint; and Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eua Florale (too much musk with the jasmine – gave me a headache when I wore it yesterday.)

Of course, I did manage to forget something I actually needed for my online order – replacement heads for my Clarisonic.

I headed to Sephora yesterday and quickly picked up a two pack of Clarisonic Acne Facial Cleansing Brush Heads ($44, $35.20 after discount). I looked all around the store and nothing caught my eye (I am biding my time on the Urban Decay Born to Run palette and the Anastasia Norvina Palette.) I was in the checkout maze and something caught my eye…I ended up bringing home the Amika Polished Perfection Mini Straightening Brush ($35, $28 after discount). I wasn’t sure what it would do, but I was looking for something that would give the front of my hair some OOMPH when I skip a day washing. I am just a little bit in love with this device. It heats up quickly and does what it says it does. It made my hair really shiny and smooth, too. Both my kids did their hair with it too and I have to say, I am super jealous of how smooth and shiny is made my son’s long, luscious hair. But then Lily wanted to use it on the cat…Um, noooooo.

I even remembered to bring in the 50 point card from this month’s Play! box. Now that I can get $100 for 2,500 points, I am gonna take advantage!

So after all this shopping, I just have $241 left until ROUGE. That’s just $60/per month, for the next four months. Hallelujah!
