Marleny

I cannot resist a good fuchsia nail polish. I have dozens and dozens of “Furious Fuchsia” nail polishes that match my old car – and I will continue to collect them. When I die, they can paint my coffin with it. Oh wait – I’m getting cremated…they can paint my urn with it.

This one is Julep “Marleny” from December’s Maven box. It’s got a good silver shimmer to it – it adds a depth to the polish.

This is two coats of “Marleny” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. For some reason, it seemed to wear down on my tips quickly. I don’t remember if I did some dishes or something – unlikely, but maybe.

Imagine

I imagine there’s no better polish for New Year’s Eve than a flashy holographic. Even though I was on the couch with the kids all night, eating popcorn and a Swiss Colony Beef Log, while watching Ru-Paul’s Drag Race All-Stars 4 – I needed to have the right nails for the occasion.

I selected Julep “Lennon” from this month’s Julep box. Can you believe that I got full coverage in a single coat? This is two coats over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat – I did two coats, just to make sure. I finished with Glisten & Glow Top Coat, but I’m curious how holographic polishes look with a Matte Top Coat.

Oh, did you noticed that I fixed my thumb and index finger? I shaped them to match the rest of my nails. I feel like I have a hangnail on my middle finger though – or it is about to split from the side. I might have to cut it down to the quick to prevent a catastrophe. Pray for my fingernail, please.

Alessandra

Snowflakes on my nails, but it’s in the mid 70s in South Texas right now. These snowflakes are the only thing wintery right now!

For the best contrast, I picked the darkest polish in this month’s boxJulep “Alessandra”. Julep describes it as inked berry microshimmer, but wouldn’t it be easier to just call it blackberry?

This is two coats of “Alessandra” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat. I then oh-so-carefully placed the snowflake decals with tweezers. I just had to see what Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat looked like over the decals, so I used it on my thumb and ring finger, while using the regular Glisten & Glow Top Coat on the rest. I was afraid the Matte Top Coat would glob up over the decals, but it didn’t. Even so, it wasn’t as pretty Matte as it was shiny. Bummer.

December 2018 Julep Box – Bliss in the Kiss

Julep’s lead product for the December Collection was lipstick, but I am REAL hesitant to get more Julep lipsticks – they go bad so quickly. I appreciate the fresh ingredients and lack of preservatives…but their products go rancid within six months! The liquid lipsticks seem to fare better, I’ll keep buying those.

I don’t remember choosing these polishes, but they look like colors I would choose, so I must have.

My selections were Wonder Maven “Marleny”cool peony shimmer, It Girl “Lennon”galactic holographic shimmer, and Bombshell “Alessandra”inked berry microshimmer. I am loving all these cool-toned polishes for sweater weather. Oh, and I also got another sheet of snowflake decals. I love these intricate snowflakes!

Sandee

Where was this polish on Thanksgiving? It would have been perfect for Turkey Day!

Julep “Sandee” is a dark, almost black polish, infused with an oxblood shimmer. It’s not a subtle shimmer either – it’s like POW!

This is two coats of “Sandee” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. The polish was a bit on the thicker side, but it applied well, with minimal pooling around my cuticles. I was also pleased to find that is did not stain my nails.

I cannot WAIT to try “Sandee” with my new Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat – it is my new favorite top coat.

Nehali

Per a cashier at Aldi, this is THE nail polish of the season. Listen to her – she KNOWS about nails.

Julep “Nehali” is rich paprika metallic. Paprika is an underrated spice. I used to think it was only for deviled eggs, but my husband makes a BBQ rub that has about a cup of paprika in it – it is astonishingly good.

This is two coats of “Nehali” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. I was originally going for a plain paint job, but I closed a box with a tape gun before my nails were 100% dry and made a pretty good dent in the middle of my middle finger. Gold Rose decals to the rescue!

Please ignore my jacked up cuticles, I had pushed them back using Julep Vanish, but I didn’t do a very even job…ugh, they need a few days to recover.

I’ve never known anyone named “Nehali”, but it is a beautiful name.

Oh no! I almost forgot this month’s Julep Maven box!

I’m not sure how to wear rose gold eyeliner – but I picked one for this month’s box anyway. “Rose Gold Shimmer” is a new shade of when pencil met gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner. I keep forgetting to grab it and try it, so tomorrow is the day!

I also picked two polishes: Classic with a Twist “Nehali”, rich paprika metallic, and Wonder Maven “Sandee”, oxblood shimmer. I cannot resist shimmery reds!

I was also able to add a sheet of gold diamond decals to my box. I’ve amassed a nice collection of nail decals from Julep…

No candy…maybe next month I’ll get some Xmas candy?

Monsty Skin

…and back to our regularly scheduled nails.

Pretend it’s October still, thanks.

Right before Halloween, I decided to dig into my stash and create “Monster Skin” nails – or, as my nephew would say, “Monsty Skin” nails. I started with Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat. I them did a single coat of Sally Hansen Gem Crush “Cha-Ching!” – it still gives full coverage in one coat. I thought I would top it with a lime green crackle coat – Sally Hansen Crackle “Sage Smash” – but it was dried up! Finally, I chance to try out Julep Voila! Nail Polish Thinner! The bottle said 1-2 drops, but I I probably put in 10-20. I shook it and shook it and managed to thin enough around the brush to mostly a full coat on my nails. It kind of crackled…somewhat. I sealed the deal with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

What came out on my nails, was not the same as what was on my nails. Instead of “Monsty Skin”, I got “Bloody Grinch”. I don’t hate it.

Fingers Crossed…

Not only are my fingers crossed for BETO to run the Texas Senate Race tonight, but my toes, too. If I could cross my tits, they’d be crossed as well.

I am pretty OCD and am stickler for blogging in the order of my Instagram posts, but tonight I bent my rules to post about my BETO nails. I mean, I still have Halloween nails to post, so what’s another few days when it’s already been a week?

I got these Rose Gold Decals in my September box and I love them…but what to spell with them? I guess I could spell my name. Or my kids’ names. Or maybe I could just spell “FUCK OFF” like a sophisticated version of a knuckle tattoo. I decided to test them out with “BETO”. I almost put “VOTE”  on my other hand, but got lazy.

After Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat, I did two coats of Julep “Della”, a freebie from the April box. It reminds me of PRUNES! I carefully placed the decals with tweezers, then finished with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

In just a few hours, BETO may or may not be a new Texas Senator. Will you cross your fingers, too?

Marjorie Merkin

Fall hit SO late, I’ve just not felt very Halloween-y lately. These delightful Merkin Nails are just the thing to get me into the Halloween spirit – it’s just a week away!

First off, Merkin is the name of our little black cat – so don’t get any wacky ideas about me gluing pubes to my fingernails. I’m not saying it will NEVER happen…but it is highly unlikely.

I decided to use Julep “Marjorie” as the base. I could have sworn that I’d tried “Marjorie” before, but I couldn’t find any posts with it, just the Maven box that had it – in the summer of 2014. That was back in the early days of my collection, before I consciously set aside my “untried” polishes. I bet it just got put in with the rest of the Julep polishes!

This is two coats of “Marjorie” over Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat. I carefully placed each black cat decal with tweezers, then sealed with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

I have lots more kitties left – I’ll have to do this one again!
