Fairy Nails

I accidentally made fairy nails!

I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired, so I just grabbed a few polishes from my ‘untried’ basket, thinking that maybe I could make a wintry, blizzard type thing? I grabbed Pure Ice “Don’t You Wish” and…a nameless Style Essentials polish from a Beauty Box 5 almost 5 years ago!

I started with Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat (one of my faves, but almost empty). I then did two coats of “Don’t You Wish”. My nails are fairly unstained, if a bit yellowed, so I decided I could handle a sheer polish. For fun, I used the nameless polish on my thumb and ring finger. I finished with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat and was astonished at the result! The matte made the iridescence of “Don’t You Wish” turn blue, except only visible with a light shining on it. I wasn’t able to capture the effect in a picture very well, but they were amazing. I couldn’t stop looking at them.

I don’t know exactly why I decided they were fairy nails – probably because they were white and gauzy and shimmery. The reminded me of Galadriel in Lord of the Rings.

April Beauty Box 5 – Bloom

/

I totally forgot to post this month’s Beauty Box 5 – “Bloom”.

This is an…interesting…box. Inside my box – Lasting Smiles Passionfruit Mango Organic Lip Balm (Lasting Smiles funds cleft surgeries for children in the developing world); Dancin’ Goat Hula Bliss Body Lotion (Mmmm, goat’s milk lotion); Incoco (not to be confused with Nanacoco?) Nail Polish Applique Set (these don’t require heat like Jamberry, hmmmm…); Style Essentials TwinGloss (2 colors in one tube); and 3 foil packets of First Aid Beauty Facial Cleanser.

I can’t decide whether or not to keep Beauty Box 5 or not. The products are really weird and from brands I’ve never heard of. Sometimes the lotions smell off, like they’ve gone bad. Any opinions out there?

September Beauty Box 5 – Balancing Act

My BFF and I felt like we weren’t just getting enough samples in the mail, so we both signed up for Beauty Box 5! It’s $12/month, $30/quarter or $99/year for 5 beauty product samples. I signed up for the 3 month pricing, because I wanted to check it out first. My BFF signed up first and gave me a code to get the August box free!

September’s theme is “Balancing Act”. I received a Nicka K New York Eyelight Crayon in “Violet”; 2 foil packs of Natural Style by FUBU Deep Conditioner & Co-Wash; Sally Hansen Toe Spacer (Ugh, another pair); a bottle of My Beauty Spot Nail Polish (color not labelled, so I’ll call it Gunmetal?); and Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara in “Blackest Black” (plus a $1 off coupon).

August’s theme was “Radiant and Remarkable” I received yet another Pur~lisse “Pur Protect SPF 30”; La Fresh Travel Lite Facial Cleansing Wipes; Nancoco Lip Gloss in “First Kiss” (SO DAMN PINK); a foil pack of Novex Brazilian Keratin; and a bottle of Style Essentials Nail Polish (again, no name on this one – white and aqua glitter).

Although there are a few Dollar Store Brands (Style Essentials, La Fresh, My Beauty Spot for sure) in the boxes, I am not freaking out yet. I’m pretty annoyed by polishes without names – what the fuck is up with that? I’ll give it a few more months and see what else pops into the box. Ipsy and Birchbox have me spoiled!

If you’re interested in trying Beauty Box 5, let me know and I’ll get you the code for a free box that I got. Their referral program isn’t live yet, so I cannot beg for referral yet!
