February 2019 Allure Beauty Box – Stronger Together
So there’s my answer – we’re getting a vinyl clutch from Allure every month, but in a different color. January was red and February is black. Hmmm…I am gonna guess BLUE for March.
I am not particularly wowed by any of the products that month, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad – it just means that I haven’t heard of them yet. There’s something to be said about fresh, new products.

I feel like this is a pretty high value box – I’m excited to try the Mamonde products especially.

February 2019 Ipsy Bag – Swoon So Hard
Oh shit, Ipsy has finally joined the 21st century and started including the products included, with descriptions, on the insert in each month’s glam bag. Hallelujah!
Inside this month’s “Swoon So Hard” bag: Elemis Superfood Facial Wash; Chella Eyeliner Pen in “Purple” (I wonder how this would work on eyebrows?); Glamglow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer in “Nude Glow” (will be using this definitely); Meech N Mia Pressed Eyeshadow in “Caramel”; and F.A.R.A.H. Brushes Powder Brush 50F.
Speaking of swooning so hard, this lipstick bag is the tits – I need to switch it into my purse. The contents are just so-so this month, but the bag makes it worth the $10.

February 2019 Julep Box – A Star is Born
This is it – my very last Julep Maven box.
Yes, it’s true – Julep has shut down their monthly subscription box program. Customers were notified of the decision on February 15th. Not only is the program canceled, but we also lost all of our Jules – I think I had close to $40 worth. It’s a bummer, but not shocking after hearing that they had declared bankruptcy and were closing the physical salons in Seattle. I am disappointed, but also slightly relieved – that’s $20/month I can pump back into my beauty budget.
My first clue that the program was coming to a close was that there was no February Collection – the curated boxes included makeup and the new version of “love your bare face” Replenishing Creme-to-Foam Cleanser. I kept the cleanser in my box and added two polishes from last year’s Zodiac Collection – “Vibrant Virgo”, luxe rose gold multidimensional, and “Tranquil Taurus”, grounded honey wheat metallic. My mom was a Virgo and my younger sister is a Taurus, but I don’t believe any of that shit.
The face wash is rather nice – it’s a pretty big tube and it rinses clean. I still prefer the stick formula – it works well with my Clarisonic and leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean, but this one will do.
According to the breakup email I received, all Mavens will continue to get a 25% discount off of regular prices, but I don’t know how much I’ll be shopping at Julep. I do need more Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat, but they’ve been out of stock for months. So frustrating!
Yes, it’s the end of an era.
January 2019 Allure Beauty Box – Thrill of the New
I’m not even gonna apologize for running late on reviews – I been busy as shit.
2019 brings big changes to the Allure Beauty Box – gone is the shiny red box, instead replaced by a generic cardboard mailer. That’s okay though – because now the monthly goodies are coming inside a sleek plastic pouch. No word yet on whether we’ll be getting the same red pouch every month, or they’ll mix up the design – stay tuned.
In this month’s all new pouch: Mally Shadow Stick Extra in “Burnished Bronze”; OUAI Scalp & Body Scrub (Hmmmm, not sure if I’m ready to be picking sugar out of my hair for a month – also includes a 15% off code for theouai.com); Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Face Oil; Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinoid Serum (How did they know I’m retinol aged now?); Doucce Relentless Matte Lip Crayon in “Winterberry” (with a code for 25% off at doucce.com); and a pack of 2 Beautyblender Micro Mini Sponges.
And as a bonus this month, each subscriber received a nail polish from NCLA. I got and orangey red called “Call My Agent”.

Sephora Play! January 2019 – Your Beauty Future
Ooohhh, this is the first Sephora Play box that has me like, what? Honey, what is you doing?
I hate it when Subscription Boxes try to give me vitamins or food or drinks or shit. We tried to be a good sport – Logan made up a mug of the Four Sigmatic Golden Latte Mushroom Mix with Shiitake & Turmeric. It tastes exactly how I imagined it would taste – HORRIBLE. It tastes like a…mushroom latte. Damn, I still have 2 of these packets left (Sephora gave me three) – anyone want them?
Once I got past that fuckery, the rest of the box isn’t bad. Sephora and Allure are pushing Sunday Riley HARD – I’ve been getting their products every months. This month was Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum – it’s an okay product. Another one of my favorite products is this month’s bonus – a foil pack of Bite Beauty Agave Sugar Lip Balm and Scrub.
Also included in this month’s box: Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in “Glace”; Laneige Water Sleeping Mask (another love); and a Beautyblender Blendercleanser Solid Pro.

January 2019 Ipsy Bag – Recharge
I am getting total summer vibes from this month’s ipsy bag. I mean, look at this summery bag – baby blue chambray stripes with a hint of coral lining…ugh, why are my feet so cold? Maybe because it’s January.
Inside this month’s “Recharge” bag: Fluide Lip Gloss in “Elsewhere” (brand is new to me…and um, will this blue gloss make me look like Elsa?); Color Club Nail Polish in “Williamsburg” (this blackened blue glitter is HAWT); Illumasqua Colouring Pencil Eye Crayon in “Honour”; Pure Brazilian Leave-in Conditioner; and H2O+ Beauty Oasis Hydrating Treatment.
This is a rather random assortment of products. The brands are kind of off as well. Is ipsy the next subscription box to get the boot???

January 2019 Julep Box – Face the Future
Well hell, I picked an odd assortment of colors this month, didn’t I?
I skipped this month’s featured beauty product – boost your radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Oil. I’d gotten it in the January 2017 box – I ended using it more as a lipstick remover than a facial oil. It smelled lovely, but my face doesn’t do well with oils.
It Girl “Sabina” is seashell matte glitter and Boho Glam “Zara” is oyster grey sheer holographic. Both are very bland and neutral. Boho Glam “Angelique” is dragonfly wing iridescent glitter, but it’s not from this month’s collection – it’s from a Mystery Box, but it called out to me when I was building my box. I also added a sheet of silver stripe decals – I’m not quite sure how I’m gonna use them – they are super long.

Sephora Play! December 2018 – Cheers to Beauty
It’s only the 3rd – late, but not too bad.
December’s box is really light – all of the products are very tiny. I am most excited about the Fresh Sugar Lip Caramel Hydrating Balm. If my nose was working, I’d tell you how good it smells. Unfortunately, you’ll just have to pretend I told you it smells just like a yummy caramel swirl. I am religious about using heavy balms and masks on my lips every night, so this will be put to good use immediately.
Also in this month’s box: Too Faced Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Perfecting Primer (the insert says it smells like peaches & cream); Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara in “Black”; MoroccanOil Treatment (for hair); and Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner in “Nothin’ But Nude”. As a bonus, they added a sixth sample to my box – Stellar Cosmic Face Powder in “Haze”. (I had no idea what this product is, so I had to look it up on Sephora’s site – it’s a mattifying translucent finishing powder – NICE). Not horrible products, but nothing really exciting either.
Another month without a fragrance sample. So sad.
I kind of miss the fabric pouches that used to come with the box. I mean…I don’t do anything with them, but I don’t do anything with these weird ziploc pouches either.

December 2018 Allure Beauty Box – By Popular Demand
As soon as spoilers began popping up, I was pumped. Partially because of NikkieTutorials – gotta support the tall girls – but mostly because her product choices are on point.
I’ve been wanting to try out Juvia’s Place eye shadows, so I was most excited about the custom palette created by Juvia’s Place, just for the Allure Beauty Box. The custom palette contains six out of the twelve shades in The Nubian Palette. Having been struck with the flu, I haven’t yet tried it – I am counting the minutes until I am germ free!
Also in Nikkie’s box: OFRA x NikkiTutorials Everglow Highlighter (oh, we’re still doing highlighters?); NYX Lip Lingerie in “Cabaret Show” (I don’t have this one – score!); Ren Clean Skincare Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm; LASplash Art-Ki-Tekt Waterproof Slim Eyeliner; and single foil packed Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipe (Isn’t this the product that gave eveyone rashes? Um, no thanks).

December 2018 Julep Box – Bliss in the Kiss
Julep’s lead product for the December Collection was lipstick, but I am REAL hesitant to get more Julep lipsticks – they go bad so quickly. I appreciate the fresh ingredients and lack of preservatives…but their products go rancid within six months! The liquid lipsticks seem to fare better, I’ll keep buying those.
I don’t remember choosing these polishes, but they look like colors I would choose, so I must have.
My selections were Wonder Maven “Marleny” – cool peony shimmer, It Girl “Lennon” – galactic holographic shimmer, and Bombshell “Alessandra” – inked berry microshimmer. I am loving all these cool-toned polishes for sweater weather. Oh, and I also got another sheet of snowflake decals. I love these intricate snowflakes!
