Malibu Barbie x Colourpop
A Malibu Barbie Makeup Set? Add. To. Cart.
I held off as long as I could. I kept hitting up Ulta’s website to see if it would show up – you know how I am about those points. No dice. I watched Trixie Mattel’s review video and I was itching for it. I finally took the plunge when the Malibu Barbie x Colourpop Full Collection Set was $79, down from $99.
The centerpiece of the set is the 15 pan Malibu Barbie Shadow Palette. The colors are amazing and vibrant. These shadows last all day and spread like butter. I’ve done a blue look and a pink look, but there are neutral colors, too. I feel like this palette is better quality than my other Colourpop Palette. Why would they do that?
I was shocked by the Beach Party Super Shock Highlighter. The first time I used it, I applied with a fan brush and it was pretty average. The second time I used it, I applied with my finger…it’s a motherfucking cream, ya’ll! I’ll never use another highlighter again – this is “the one.”
The set included three lux lipstick kits: a bullet lipstick and matching lip liner. “Golden Beach” is a pinkish nude, a bit too light for me. “Malibu Sunset” is a vibrant hot pink, perfect for me. Full disclosure – it stained my lips. I haven’t tried “Dreamhouse” yet – it’s a medium pink.
Even though they’re adorable, I feel like I won’t get much use out of the heart shaped Barbie Hand Mirror or the Doll Lashes. Maybe for Halloween?
The Malibu Barbie x Colourpop Full Collection Set is currently 30% off – just $69.30! I am so mad…I thought I was getting a good deal snagging it for $79 + free shipping and a free pack of Daily Do-Over Makeup Removing Wipes.
I know I need more eye shadow like I need a hole in the head…but I thought I missed out on the PÜR x Barbie Endless Possibilities Palette! But then it popped up in Ulta’s pre-Thanksgiving Friendsgiving sale for 40% off, so…
I had passed on it when it launched several months ago, because I did not want to pay full price – $34. 40% off brought it down to $20.40, which is much more reasonable. I was not familiar with PÜR ‘s eye shadow quality, but it turns out that is really soft and buttery – it blends very well. There is a good range of pinks and browns in the palette, but the most pleasant surprise was the blue eye shadow. I grew up in the 80s and ALL of my Barbies had that same baby blue eye shadow. The blue in this palette is an almost perfect reproduction of that baby blue – somewhat sheer, with a pinkish shimmer. This might be the only blue eye shadow I own that doesn’t look completely ridiculous.
I also picked up 2 of the 4 PÜR x Barbie Lipsticks for $10.80, down from $18 – “Legendary”, Barbie pink, and “Timeless”, dusty mauve pink. Although they are insanely pigmented and have decent staying power – it IS lipstick and gets all over EVERYTHING.
I also got a 4 piece gift (with a $35 PÜR purchase), which included PÜR 4-in-1 Correcting Primer, 4-in-1 Lip Duo, Lit Mist Illuminating Setting Spray, and a makeup pouch. I tried out the primer and it is really nice.
I was kind of pissed that the PÜR x Barbie collab went down to 50% on Cyber Monday, but oh well.
$266 to Diamond…stay tuned!
Target Birthday Shopping
Nothing burns a hole in my pocket like a Target coupon. For my birthday last week, Target sent me a coupon code for an additional 5% off a shopping trip – I had to use it before it expired!
I really didn’t need anything specific, so I just wandered. The first thing I grabbed was a replacement up & up dip-it and a bag of Exfoliating Cotton Rounds. That was the point that I noticed the rack of Sinful Colors Nail Polish. I’ve been so bummed that Walgreen’s no longer carries them. Walmart will have the new collections soon, I’ve heard – but until then, I had consigned myself to going without. What did I spy, but random bottles with “New Shade” Stickers in the Core Collection Display. Don’t mind if I do! I picked up three of the new shades – “Hot Toffee”, “Raisin the Roof”, and “Spring Fling”. I also picked up an older shade I had never seen before – “The Full Monte”.
As I moved on through the aisles, I came upon a HUGE display for Flamingo Products. Flamingo is a service similar to Dollar Shave Club – basically, a subscription box for razors and wax strips. We’re quite happy with Dollar Shave Club, but I thought I’d give the Flamingo Face Wax Kit a try. At $9.99, it was a bit more expensive than the Nads Kits I had been using, but I feel like it was much more gentle to my face AND I was able to use less strips to get the job done. Nice!
And yes…that IS a Spongebob Squarepants Outfit for my Barbies. It says, “Sponge On!” – it was very important for me to have it!
Little Pink Dress
Every girl needs a little pink dress.
I finally tried out Barbie “Little Pink Dress”. I was surprised that it turned out to be a matte finish, with a very slight shimmer. It’s a summery pink, reminding me of pink grapefruit.
This is just two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat. I was surprised at how delicate this polish is – when I woke up the next morning, there were slight dents and impressions, even though my nails had been dry and rock hard at least an hour before I went to bed.
This was my last regular manicure before jumping head-first into Xmas nails. Get ready!
An Offer I Can’t Refuse
I know, I know…I just bought a shitload of clearance Kylie Sinful Colors…but 2/$3 is an offer I can’t refuse. Not when my work Walgreen’s has all the new collections.
I started my hunt looking for the “Guise and Ghouls” Halloween polishes. I didn’t get all of them – I’d been burned by their elusive glitters and didn’t feel like playing Go Fish again. I did pick out 5 though: “Cloak and Swagger”, “Play Dead”, “Dead On”, “Where O Werewolf”, and “Nice Guise”. Lots of silver and gray this year.
I also picked 5 polishes from the new Luxe Fragments Collection: “Strike a Pose”, “Walk the Walk”, “Don’t Flake”, “Gold a la Mode”, and “Silver Slivers”. This collection wasn’t even on my radar, but I’m glad I spied it on an endcap.
Oh, and I found the clearance polish I had been looking for – Barbie “Little Pink Dress”.
Lots of people on Instagram are waiting for these new collections to hit their stores…be patient! The Beauty Advisor at my store had just put out these displays on Tuesday morning, the day I was there…the 2/$3 sale ends tomorrow, so get your ass to Walgreen’s and looook…
Barbie & Kylie
Instagram is like my crack. My girl Rita (@blkisbeauti) posted that she saw the Barbie sets and Sinful Colors Kylie polishes for 50% off at Walgreen’s. I conned my husband into dropping me off to browse…but only after I walked the aisles at Lowe’s. Marriage is compromise.
I literally snatched up the last Barbie Face Case. There are 9 eye shadows (NO blue eye shadow? All my Barbies had blue eye shadow!), a blush, a lipstick, liquid eyeliner for that signature cat-eye) and eye shadow primer. I also grabbed “Barbie Pink” lipstick and a Makeup Bag – because of there is anything I need, it’s more makeup bags. They didn’t have any brushes or fingernail polish left.
I also spied the Sinful Colors Kylie Jenner Collection for 50% off. These polishes had been excluded from the usual Sinful Colors sales, so I was pumped. I am not thrilled to be making Kylie Jenner any richer, but I can throw the bitch $1.49. I picked up the following shades: “Kleopatra”, “Angelik”, “After Dark”, “Kargo”, “Konstellation”, and “Haute Koffee”. Oh, I get it…all the polishes have a “K” in the name. So klever.
You know I’m gonna hit more Walgreen’s to see what else I can find…
