Palm to Palm
I did not wear “Weekend Superpowers” very long – I did not feel glamorous wearing it.
I was happy to move on to July’s ipsy polish – Color Club “Palm to Palm”. A vibrant crelly, I was surprised that it dried so sheer – you can see my nail line. This is two coats over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
I ended up with a lot of extra polish in the edges of my nails – the brush was all fucked up. It looked like a rooster’s tail…after a tussle with a weedeater. So, I am wondering if the brush being all fucked up was a fluke thing or if lower quality bottles were intentionally off-loaded on ipsy…hmmmm…Regardless, it is a lovely color and I’ll use it again.
OH! And it also stained a bit when I took it off – be careful with this polish!
Nails on a Chalkboard
…or is it a chalkboard on my nails?
Honestly, that didn’t even cross my mind with this polish at first – I just kept thinking of of army/camo green. It wasn’t until I tested the matte top coat of my pinky that I saw it – it’s just like an old fashioned, dark green chalkboard.
This is Nails, Inc. “Weekend Superpowers” from this month’s ipsy bag. I groaned audibly when I saw the color – it’s just so…dull. It doesn’t make sense at all for summer – it is more of a fall/winter polish. A friend mentioned that she received a peach polish, so I guess not everyone received this funky color. Or maybe it makes sense, in a “Back to School” sorta way?
This is two coats of “Weekend Superpowers” over Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat, except for the pinky with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat.
The Spice Must Flow…
There are really so many different spice references I could have made – Pumpkin Spice, The Spice Girls, Sugar & Spice…but I decided to go with the obvious Dune reference, because this polish is a sandy rose gold, perfect for any sandworm to glide through!
I had to finish off my my trio of Sinful Shines – this is two coats of Sinful Colors Sinful Shine “Spice”. I used Sinful Colors Base Coat to start and finished with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat on my thumb and ring finger and regular Glisten & Glow Top Coat on the rest.
I checked HEB today to see if the 3/$5 coupon was still there, but it was gone. So, so sad!
Shimmarine
My husband has an odd way of judging nail polish. He judges my nail polish by how it would look on a car. I bring it up, because this polish literally reminds me of a friend’s car, back in college. He had this sparkly, blue Mustang 5.0 – Stacy named it ‘Crystal Blue Smurf’ – and it was this exact shade of sparkly blue. I wonder whatever happened to the ‘Crystal Blue Smurf’?
This smurfy shade is Sinful Colors Sinful Shine “Shimmarine”. I painted two coats, over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. Again, I got a few bubbles, but less than with “Magic Dragon”.
I googled “Shimmarine” and the only results were related to this fingernail polish – it’s a made up word, in case you were wondering.
Puff the Magic Dragon
That song irritates the fuck out of me. Stupid hippies.
ANYWAY, this is the magical Sinful Colors Sinful Shine “Magic Dragon”. It’s teal shimmer/holo – I cannot tell which. The formula is great – full coverage in two coats, with no streaks. This is two coats over Sinful Colors Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. I did get a few bubbles – I don’t know if it was because I layered the coats too fast, or if the top coat doesn’t like the Sinful Shine formula.
I also put it on my toes – it’s the perfect summer polish.
Inspired by Frida
My new Frida Kahlo collection has inspired me! For the past few months, I haven’t felt overly inspired to do any nail art of fancy combinations. I’ve just been painting my nails and going about my business…but playing with my new makeup has given me a few idea.
I decided to play with Frida Kahlo “FKN37”, probably my favorite polish right now. I started with Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat and “FKN37”. I topped my thumb and ring finger with Sinful Colors Hypnotic Transforming Top Coat in “Redrum.” I didn’t get much reaction on my thumb, but my ring finger turned out really cool. For the glitter on my middle finger and pinky, I used Funky Fingers “Red Wedding”. I left my index finger plain. I topped all of my nails with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat.
I love red and turquoise together. I wanted to paint my walls turquoise and red, but I’ve been forbidden from painting any walls red in my house. At least my living room is a similar shade of turquoise. Maybe the next couch I get can be red?
Now I need to check my 20 miles of CVS receipts to see if I have any coupons I can use on more Frida Kahlo Nail Polish!
Tutti Frutti Tonga
What is the correct way to spell “Tutti Frutti”? According to OPI “Tutti Frutti Tonga”, it’s “frutti”…but according to Sally Hansen “Tutti-Fruitti”, it’s “fruitti”. Wikipedia says “Tutti Frutti”, as does Little Richard…so I guess Sally Hansen can SUCK IT.
ANYWAY, this is two coats of OPI “Tutti Frutti Tonga” over Glisten & Glow Ridge-Filling Base Coat (I got my new bottle – yay) and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat. I like how pearly it is – but that quality made the polish hella-streaky and it left drag marks on my nails. The second coat self-leveled a bit better, but it still looks streaky to me.
Frankly, I expect better from OPI – I am very disappointed in this polish.
Body Language
Miss me? I took an extra long summer vacation this year (drove all the way from Texas to New York with my sister, to see my other sister – 10/10, highly recommend a sister roadtrip), which included a full website hiatus. I was maybe, a little bit getting burned out and disconnecting really felt good. But now I’m itching to post about a month’s worth of beauty boxes that were waiting for me on my kitchen counter when I got home.
Sinful Colors “Body Language” was a polish I wore before my vacation, but I just didn’t have time to post it. It’s one of the darker shades from the “Naughty Nudes” Collection. The polish is a chocolately brown, but with an extra pearly green shimmer. It kind of reminded me of boogers…
This is two coats of “Body Language” over Sinful Colors Base Coat, with Glisten & Glow Top Coat on all but my pinky – gotta have that mattified pinky. (I used Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat.) I think I need to try it with a gold or green glitter.
Aphrodite
Ahhhh…this is more like it.
Formula X “Aphrodite” is a beautiful brass/pewter holographic polish. As old as this polish must be, it still applied beautifully. This is two light coats, over Glisten & Glow Base Coat and under Glisten & Glow Top Coat…except for that mattified pinky nail with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat. (I just received a new bottle in the mail today – squeeeeee!)
Holographic nail polishes are underrated – especially in the summer. Indoors, they look like plain old gray nails, but outside in the sunlight – they take on a life of their own! The holo sparkle in “Aphrodite” is a whole-ass rainbow on my fingers!
Pepto Pizzaz
Ugh, I am about fucking DONE with L.A. Colors – this polish pissed me off SO MUCH.
This is L.A. Colors “Pizzaz” – I picked it up at WalMart a few weeks ago. It was 98 cents, on a clearance end cap – I should’ve known better!
Why am I so irritated? This polish was a streaky, chalky mess. Even after two coats, there were streaks and drag marks. The finish of the polish itself was demi-matte, and there was a tantalizing bit of purple opalescent shimmer before I hit the top coats. Of course, that shimmer totally disappeared after the top coats – I was just left with Pepto Bismol pink. This is two coats over Glisten & Glow Base Coat, with Glisten & Glow Matte Top Coat on my thumb and ring finger, and regular Glisten & Glow Top Coat on the rest.
