Lunchtime Haul

/

Sooooo…since I picked up the wrong Sinful Colors top coat, I figured I would look for a better one…but guess what? Sinful Colors doesn’t make a polish top coat that’s quick dry. Well damn. That’s okay – Sinful Colors are still on sale…and the Kempwood location already has a Xmas display out!

I picked up “Twilight Twinkles”, jagged gold flakie glitter; “Gilded”, gold and red microglitter (possibly a dupe for Julep “Love”?); “Calypso”, a dark teal creme; and “No Text Red”, a bright red creme (like I need another one!) promoting their “No texting & driving” campaign. (I’m supposed to paint my thumbnail red to remind me to not text and drive. Weird.)

I also bopped over to Bath & Body Works to use some coupons. I used a coupon for a free travel size – but I got the wrong thing! I’m trading out my travel size toiletries from “Carried Away” to “Mad About You”, but I couldn’t remember the last thing I needed. I needed a shower gel, but now I have 2 lotions. Damnit. I also had a coupon for $5 Body Cream, instead of the normal $12.50. At least I got the right scent – “White Citrus”.

I somehow managed to resist the 7/$24 Hand Soap Sale….even though I also had a 20% coupon…maybe next time.

It’s Been 4 Weeks Since My Last Sin…

/

Sinful Colors are 99 cents at Walgreen’s again. It seems like they were just on sale recently…because they were – 4 weeks ago. I checked my posts, and the sales are coming every 4 weeks like clockwork. DUH. How did it take me that long to notice?

I didn’t go crazy this time. I only picked up one polish – “Vintage”, from the Fall 2014 OMGeode Collection. It’s a metallic olive green and inspires me to try my Freddy Krueger look again.

I also bought a Sinful Colors Basecoat and Quick Dry, which were NOT on sale – $3.99 each. I figured, why not see how they stack up to the others I’ve tried?

Just 4 More…

/

I was thirsty…so I went to Walgreen’s to grab a coke. And 4 more 99 cent Sinful Colors polishes!

I had to complete the 2014 Halloween Collection, so I got “Cauldron Couture” – different shapes of emerald green and black glitter in a clear base – and “Mystery Moonshine” – purple, green and orange jagged glitter.

I needed a green to go underneath “Cauldron Couture”, so I got “Pine Away” – a foresty green shimmer. I also needed a basic purple. How is it possible that I don’t have a basic purple? I decided on “Amethyst” – a good medium purple.

Brace yourselves…Halloween nails are coming.

Sinful Halloween Polishes

/

I should have been suspicious yesterday when my son asked to go shopping with me…until I realized that he just wanted to eat all the tasty samples at HEB. The joke was on him though – he had to go to Walgreen’s with me first. He showed absolutely NO enthusiasm for picking out 99 cent nail polish…

My animosity towards the color orange is well documented, but you can’t have Halloween without orange and black. So in addition to Sinful Colors “Glow in the Dark” (which kind of works – I experimented on my daughter – but I think it needs more than one coat), I got “Splatter Spell” – different shapes of orange and black glitter – and “Pumpkin Spice” – orange, red and gold glitter.

I got a Walgreen’s brand fake eos lip balm – 100% natural beeswax, with vitamin E and peppermint. I bought it solely because it was shaped like a cute little beehive. I tried it and it tingled like Burt’s Bees! I’m in love!

It’s Sinning Time Again

/

It’s that time again…99 cent Sinful Colors at Walgreen’s!

I showed amazing restraint and picked up just 4 polishes. I’m thinking that the restraint may have been because I had the whole family there…real alcoholics prefer to drink alone, don’t they?

Lily is modeling our new polishes – “Super Star” – a royal blue jelly base with vibrant purple glitter; “Let Me Go” – a color shifting iridescent pink with a hint of blue (my husband’s pick); “Decadent” – different sized fuchsia glitter in a clear base (my BFF’s favorite glitter topper and Lily’s pick); and “Glass Pink” – pale pink shimmer.

Can I control myself for the rest of the week?

Cinderella, Cinderella

/

If you can’t decide, why decide? That’s why I like going to Chinese buffets – you can have a little bit of everything.

After Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat, I started with one coat of Sinful Colors “Cinderella”, a baby blue shimmer with pink/orange undertones – it’s one of their more popular colors. It’s fine by itself, but I wanted to try out a bunch of green and blue glitters that I had recently bought.

On my thumb, I used one coat of Sinful Colors “Green Ocean”, a limited edition St. Patrick’s Day polish. It’s a sheer jelly, with iridescent flakies. It gave only a slightly green cast to “Cinderella”. I need to try it over a black or a dark blue. It was the only one that felt a bit bumpy after my top coat (NYC In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry in “Grand Central Station”). This was also the first time my topcoat cracked! Only on one thumb though, thank GAWD.

My Index Finger got Sinful Colors “Green with Ivy”, which isn’t green at all, maybe teal-ish? It’s another sheer jelly, but with holographic glitter bars. It’s from the Summer 2014 “Destination Color” collection and a Walgreen’s exclusive color. I was not wowed by “Green Ocean” or “Green with Ivy” over “Cinderella”.

My middle finger is like WHOA with Sinful Colors “Nail Junkie”. The base is turquoise, so it is the only one that really changed the base color of “Cinderella”. I wanna do my whole hand in it!

My husband liked my ring finger the best – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in “Sea-ly String”, from the Fall 2013 Collection. The base is sheer blue, with a variety of silver, blue and black glitter and bar glitter.

Finally, my pinky got Sinful Colors “Ice Dream” from the Holiday 2012 “Winter Shimmers” and Holiday 2013 “Glitz & Glittered” Collections. This look could be Frozen, part 2.

Which one is your favorite?

It’s Not Horrible…

/

That’s the first thing I said to my husband when I finished painting my nails last night – “It’s not horrible…”

A few months ago, I was chatting with Dr. Goddess and she was displeased with a yellow polish that she received in one of her Julep Mystery Boxes. She challenged me to find a yellow nail polish that looks good on the lily fishbelly white, like ourselves. Yellow, like coral, usually looks amazing on dark or even very tan skin…but isn’t quite as magical on pale skin.

I purchased Sinful Colors “Yellow Spotted” a few weeks ago during one of my Walgreen’s binges. It’s a new shade from the Summer 2014 “Turn Up the Heat” Collection. It’s a very primary yellow, with a prominent shimmer. It’s almost exactly The Simpsons yellow! I started with Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat, added 2 coats of “Yellow Spotted” and topped with NYC In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry in “Grand Central Station”. I got decent coverage, with just a bit of thickening towards the cuticle.

Like I said, it doesn’t look horrible, but it doesn’t look awesome with my skin tone either. Being 1/4 Chinese, I tend to have a faint yellow undertone to my skin anyway. Yellow clothes do not compliment my skin and neither does this nail polish. I do think I will use the polish again, if only with green or purple glitter. Plus, there’s always Lily – she got my husband’s olive skin and looks great in yellow polish!

Sinful Sickness

/

I couldn’t resist adding a few more Sinful Colors to my collection while they were still on sale…

“Green with Envy” doesn’t look green to me, it’s more of a teal jelly with holographic bar glitter.

“Mimosa” looks like a tasty alcoholic beverage…with red glitter floating in it.

“Nirvana” is a beigey, grayish creme. I had a poop this color once.

“Ice Dream” is ice blue and silver glitter.

I also had $1.00 of rewards on my Walgreen’s card, so my haul was $3 and tax…don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Suck it, Chanel

/

I’ve been getting Consumer Reports for years and I can honestly say that they’ve never steered me wrong. I learn something new with every issue…that I get around to reading. This month’s issue, however, contained information that I already knew – expensive isn’t necessarily better when it comes to nail polish.

Consumer Reports tested 7 polishes, ranging from luxury brand Chanel at $27 to drugstore brand Sinful Colors at $2. Surprise! Sinful Colors won! Read the entire article on Consumer Reports site.

Since Walgreen’s has Sinful Colors on sale for 99 cents again…I decided to celebrate their victory. I picked up 6: “Tokyo Pearl” – pearly white, “Cinderella” – literally the color of Cinderella’s dress, iridescent baby blue, “Hot Chili” – rusty red shimmer with red holographic glitter, “Yellow Spotted” – bright yellow shimmer, “Green Ocean” – light green jelly with iridescent green glitter and “Pinky Glitter” – pink jelly with iridescent glitter. Are you sensing a theme? Lots of iridescence and glitter?

The Good Kind of Cheap

/

My BFF says I’m cheap…”but it’s the good kind of cheap!”

I won’t argue or try to defend myself – I’m always looking for a bargain. Any store I visit, I usually make a beeline for the clearance section. Running into Walgreen’s to buy a soda, I’ve gotta stroll by the clearance endcap in the back of the store. I couldn’t pass up Sinful Colors “Inkwell” for 67 cents and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri “Magenta Motion” for $1.79. (The Insta-Dri is for Dottie’s claws – gotta have the fast drying stuff for pets…and for six year olds, for that matter.)
